Wel I told you all to wait for the real figures -- looks like the 360 is in higher demand in Europe even on the dawn of the PS3 launch.  Some other interesting tidbits in the article, such as the low pre-orders for Europe (well below Wii / 360) and the fact that 50-70% of launch consoles are still sitting on retailer shelves.

Sorry, this thread is stupid. You're citing an article which contacted "one branch of a major retail outlet" to find that a few more 360s were sold than PS3s, and then used it to "confirm" the 360 outsold the PS3 on launch weekend. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/26261/Record-breaking-165000-PS3s-sold-at-UK-launch PS3 has become the best-selling console from the current gen, with 165 000 sales. Yes, there are some left over (and if the Wii and 360 would have been supplied in those numbers similar sales figures would have been likely), but it still sold a hell of a lot.

Why is that ironic. The 360 and Wii could have sold more than that in the UK and the UK is only one country in Europe. France, Italy, Germany and Spain would also be very important for sales in Europe.

Not to rain on your parade, but the article has been outdated by...itself.  PS3 had one of the biggest console launches in gaming history.  It beat 360 and Wii.

The main issue the PS3 has is the fact there are far too many people out there who are blind to value. They just see a low price and jump on that instead. Seriously, the Wii wouldn't be where it's at if it cost $600.00 and neither would the 360.

my god will you people either a) smarten up, and/or b) stop posting the fastest sales as some sort of salvation. Here's why:

1) MS and Nintendo has supply issues at launch ---- one could estimate that given adequate supply both MS and Ninty would've shattered Sony's balls in terms of sales (pre-orders are an excellent indicator for this)

2) MS still outsold PS3 during the launch weekend for Europe.

there is NO good way of wording this for Sony, other than 'OMG SONY, YOU MANAGED TO SHIP ENOUGH CONSOLES AT LAUNCH! ME HEART YOU SO MUCH'.

quote:"Chart-Track estimates 165,000 units sold in two days
Chart-Track has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that UK consumers snapped up 165,000 PlayStation 3 units in the two days following the console's launch.
That makes PS3 the fastest-selling home console in history, beating the Wii - which shifted 105,000 units during its launch weekend - and Xbox 360, with 70,000 sold.
Both Nintendo and Microsoft struggled to meet demand with their consoles, leading to stock shortages - but Sony previously stated that the UK would get around 220,000 of the 1 million PS3 units allocated to Europe for launch.
Overall, the PlayStation 3 is the second fastest-selling piece of games hardware in history. That record still belongs to PlayStation Portable, with 185,000 units sold during the handheld's launch weekend.
PlayStation 3 launched in Europe on Friday, priced at GBP 425 / EUR 599 for the 60GB model."

Well the topic was that 360 is in higher demand, which it obviously is not if the PS3 sold 165,000. Then you said MS and Nintendo had supply issues at launch. So what, that's exactly what Sony was trying to avoid at launch. Not only that, but look at the pricepoint of the PS3, and it's still selling better than X360 in the same time period last year. Then you said MS still outsold PS3 during the launch weekend for Europe. Which is wrong, don't know where your getting your info from.

No, the topic was 'PS3 outsold by 360 during Euro Launch' - which is true. Domestic product numbers will confirm this shortly, but for now we'll have to rely on the numerous articles citing this.

Sony fixing supply issues does not = higher demand for the console, or any sort of measured success - other than remedying a supply issue. If the demand was as high as the Wii / 360 the PS3 would've sold every unit they shipped on the launch weekend. You can do the math yourself, the figures are out there.

And who cares about last years figures? Again - I'll refer you to the Topic.

I don't want to sound nasty, but you really seem to be having difficulty grasping the topic at hand.

I don't want to sound nasty, but you really seem to be having difficulty grasping the topic at hand.

Alright so the topic was "PS3 outsold by 360 during Euro Launch" Which is false. There are two links stating how well it sold. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23781 http://www.mcvuk.com/news/26261/Record-breaking-165000-PS3s-sold-at-UK-launch I never said fixing supply issues = higher demand for it. They made sure that Europe had enough PS3's so people could walk in and buy, Instead of shipping 100,000 and the rest of the people going home mad because it was sold out. It's not that hard to understand. Hasn't even been a full week it's out in Europe yet so the 55,000 left of that 220,000 could easily still get sold. Comparing last years figures is important, everyone says the PS3 isn't selling well, yet it's selling better than the X360 did last year, and at a higher pricepoint.

"Domestic product numbers will confirm this shortly, but for now we'll have to rely on the numerous articles citing this. "
How can you know that, if actually they are not here?

1) Yes off course! The PS3 was not available. It was necessary for MS and Nintendo to do this fast,
because it was the only way to gain ground against Sony.

2) Again there was no PS3 and people wanted next-gen so they bought the 360.

But one year is over and still there is still demand for the PS3. You can't negate that fact. Look to the Japanese market the sales numbers say a lot of where the market is going. The UK is a strong market in Europe and it is an indicator on user demands and interests like Germany and France. Till the numbers for these two are up, we won't know for sure.

[QUOTE="Paktahn"][QUOTE="Bear-Max"]Quite ironically, the website he linked also has the following article in the side-bar: http://news.spong.com/article/12152

Why is that ironic. The 360 and Wii could have sold more than that in the UK and the UK is only one country in Europe. France, Italy, Germany and Spain would also be very important for sales in Europe.

I very much doubt the Wii and 360 sold more than 165 000 consoles this weekend. The Wii is extremely under-stocked and hardly anyone can get hold of one, and the 360 surely can't be in THAT high a demand? Anyway I've said this in another thread: first weekend sales figures mean nothing. Microsoft and Nintendo shipments were restricted because of the global launch. Sony's had 4 months to build up reserves and so all it has done is met (and exceeded) demand. The result is about 60 000 consoles still sitting on shelves. As for the article's reliability, everyone seems to have ignored my point that the whole thing is based on the fact that somebody "at ONE BRANCH of a major retail outlet" said so. Nice sample size, buddy.

PS3 still did preety good ...

In 2 days PS3 sold over 20,000 units
  .. In  4 days 360 sold 30,000 units
.. In 4 days Wii sold 32,000 units

considering the others got an extra day and a bit i think PS3 sold preety well ...

[QUOTE="Bear-Max"]Sorry, this thread is stupid.

Best in the Uk.... Thats it.
