Yesterday I was helping my friend move into his new apartment. He has 2 roommates and the very weird one (who he met through work) sure enough pulled out his PS3 while unpacking. As I was browsing through his library of games and simply watching the awkward mannerisms of him, it hit me. The PS3 is really desgined for people who game alone. MGS, Uncharted, Infamous, hes buying GOW3.... I asked him does your current lack of interent effect you (he owns MW2). He goes nah I dont play online. He also only owns .... 1 controller.

Halo, Gears of War, every single multiplat game designed for online/multiplayer is better received (sales) on X360. You simply will not find a 360 owner who only ones 1 controller and does not play on Live, as its very geared towards social play (with friends or family)

I think it is safe to consider the X360 the social console and the PS3 the personal console.

Im sorry but this thread is ridicolous.. sure the 360 has better online, but that doesnt mean ps3 games are more loners then 360 gamers.

PS3 and xbox are both two great systems

well ill say that the 360 community is probably closer knit than the psn one (anybody hate how like 3 people have mics?) the problem with the 360 is that the party chat is essentially ruining a few games and making it antisocial to only talk to a select few people insead of randoms online. either way its subjecive thinking

The 360 focuses more on online play, and why shouldn't it? you have to pay for it. But that by no means results in the PS3 being a console for loners.

This is almost as ridicolous as the people that say PC gamers are loners/nerds and console gamers are not.

Obviously with tens of millions of each console sold, there cannot possibly be a completely true generalization made. But looking at the exclusive games designed for each console, the superior online service of the 360 (with a far better friend/chat system instituted) and the sales numbers of games geared for multiplayer action on both systems, you would be hard pressed to argue the PS3 is the more social console. Correct?

Out of all my gamer friends, the most weird, awkward, funny looking and also violently angry person online is 360 purist... What conclusions should I take out of this?

Seriously, way to generalize.

I play Warhawk online all the time and MW 2. You don't have to be a chatter box to play on PSN. You can actually play online without a mic! Wow what a news flash!!!

There are 100's of millions of gamers the world over who own different consoles and computers who use gaming for different reasons. To decide all the people who earn a certain console are a certain way because of which console they own is pretty stupid.

Okay, just so we're clear, because "your friend" prefers single player games on PS3, the console as a whole lacks viable Multiplayer games?

Lol maybe that's true for your friend but naw I don't think so. It may seem like it because of the single player games you mentioned and how it seem that nobody has headsets on the PS3 but both the 360 and PS3 are for social gamers with a slight end to the 360.

In your OT you said that 1 person made you realize that the PS3 is for loners. That is a huge stretch to even call a remotely true generalization. Idk if you're aware of this but some people still do like SP games. Not everything needs MP to be good. The 360 has a larger user base so more people = more sales, even though games still well on the PS3.

I'm not saying 1 console is more social than the other. They both have plenty of games for both types of people

I can see if you are talking about offline 2 player games. As the PS3 really is lacking in this department compared to the 360. I hope they add some offline co-op action in either or both KZ2 or R3. I play a lof of UC2 online but it would have been so sweet if it had co-op offline for the arena and mini-missions part of the game. PSN online is fine to play games with friends but otherwise the Playstation suffers in offlineco-op.

Yeah, no. This was very silly. Here's another example in the "in my personal experience" catalog. I have about four to five friends who I play with often on PSN with various online games. My friend's list is made up with about forty something people who I usually all play with or talk to every so often when I can. I have two controllers for my PS3 and two for the 360. Besides cross-game chat and the integrated party system on XBL (which are neat), it's just as much as a social experience.

That's how it is around here with my friends. Most of us don't play much online and prefer single player games, but when we do play multiplayer games it's almost always locally in the same room together, the best way. The ones we know who play online 24/7 are the unsocial weirdos who never leave their rooms.

Funny because while I was playing Halo 3 on my friends 360 the other day there was absolutely nobody on mics (very social right...) except for one guy. That one guy kept begging and whining for people to get their mics on so that he could have someone to talk to. Sounds to me 360 players are the loners begging for attention.....oh wait I just generalized the entire XBL community based off of one incident..... Thread = FAIL

There are 100's of millions of gamers the world over who own different consoles and computers who use gaming for different reasons. To decide all the people who earn a certain console are a certain way because of which console they own is pretty stupid.

I am simply stating the awkward loner is most likely to choose a PS3 over 360. And the 16-28 year old who likes social games is most likely to choose a X360 over PS3. I dont think that can be refuted as hard as it would be to completely prove

you picked one person, one person is one person. im sure i could find someone with a 360 who just sits and plays alone.

Online isn't everything. look at the Wii, the weakest console this generation in online yet it is probably the most social one.

I also don't get the idea that singleplayer games has to be played by loners. WoW is filled by lonely people that only have friends in that game.

The PS3 is for people that liked the PS2 and thought the PS3 was going to be just as good. They were wrong.

Good job using one individual to represent millions of gamers. Its weird because I have a PS3 and the only time I play alone is when I am playing a SP game

Correct?

We have two ps3s hooked up in my apt, and one hooked up in a buddy's apt and we all play games together online and bluetooth linked. Just because the playstation has way better single player games doesnt mean its a singleplayer only console.

The PS3 is for people who would like to play the amazing games it has to offer.
