*POLL* Can the new Twisted Metal revive the Car Combat genre?

Let's face it, the Car Combat genre has pretty much died. There hasn't been any car combat games released all year (that I can find on gamerankings anyway), nor last year, in fact the last game released that I could find on gamerankings was Twisted Metal: Head On - Extra Twisted Edition for the PlayStation 2 which was released on February 5th of 2008. Yep you read right, it's been more than three years since a notable car combat game was released.

It seems like the Car Combat genre died after Twisted Metal games stopped getting released, before that we at least saw other games of the genre, even though none of them were nearly as well received as the Twisted Metal franchise. Actually I could only find three franchises other than Twisted Metal with more than one game: Vigilante 8, Pursuit Force, and Full Auto.

However, at last year's E3 we saw the new Twisted Metal which comes out October 4th. This new installment received much hype shortly after it was announced (although it hasn't been getting as much attention lately).

My question to you is System Wars is this; can the new Twisted Metal revive this genre to a respectable level? Or will Car Combat forever more be forgotten?

I'm not really sure but at this point i would say no, but TW looks great:D

I personally want to see a new Rouge Trip awesome mix of Twisted metal and Crazy taxi.

Think the game will score an 8.5 or higher. It has a good amount of content in it. It has up to 4 player splitscreen, online and I think it also has splitscreen online and some other stuff in the game. Plus there hasn't been many games released like this game in the past 2 years.

I see the game selling well and having a strong online community but I doubt it will revive the genre, in fact I think Twisted Metal has that in its favour. The fact it's a one of a kind game means a lot of gamers may want to get into it, like how Heavy Rain came out of nowhere and sold strong.

not from the hype but from the fact all these games people thought would score AAA and didnt...i would find it funny if little old TM outscored games that people thought would be higher

No I don't think so but I can see TM getting a 8.5 or a 9.0 because David Jaffe is awesome.

We need the car combat genre to come back. The amount of FPSs we have today is massive. We need other genres.

I doubt Twisted Metal will change anything but I really hope that it does. Some of the most fun I ever had online was that Car Combat game you got along with PS2 online access. Can't recall the name of the game but man it was awesome.

I agree with all of that, I really miss playing car combat games. This gen I haven't played any FPSs and I would like to get into them again.

I think it can... have you seen the e3 demo? That boss fight looked like it was on God Of War Epic level. And it's supposed to have an awesome online experience aswell so yeah I think it has a good chance.

No. I do think the new Twisted Metal game will do well, but I don't think it will revive the genre. I think it will do good because it is the only vehicle combat game of it's type being released. I don't see all types of this game being made and doing well. There is only so much you can do in this genre to make your game different from all the others in the genre. So I don't see people rushing out to buy all the vehicle combat games seeing they all would pretty much be the game game. But then again, look how well CoD sells and it is pretty much the same game every year.

If nothing else, it will bring lots of gamers back to split screen gaming. I know I'll enjoy playing with three friends.

This whole time I thought I was the only person who wanted a new Vigilante 8. :)

It's not gonna happen though, Activision is done with that franchise. :cry:

EDIT: Maybe if Twisted Metal sells good we'll see a new Vigilante 8.
