Playstation Plus vs. Games with Gold (August 2014)

Both pretty meh to me

Dishonored or Dragon's Crown are the best games in that group.

I want to check out Proteus.

PS+ are getting games that are just being released. How amazing is that?

Both of them suck this month. PS+ is actually worse this month, then last month. At least last month had Indie games we've heard of before. Strider, Towerfall Ascension are great games. Besides Fez, I've never heard of any of those other Indie games. Crysis 3 is meh.

For the GWG, it's another weak month, but not as bad as last month. We get Dishonored and Crimson Dragon (which I purposely didn't buy because knew it would be on GWG soon). I've wanted to try Motorcross Madness. Never heard of Strike Suit Zero: D.C., but I'm will to give it a shot. Still nothing spectacular, but at least it's a bit better then last month with the same Max the Curse of Brotherhood game for two months.

I downloaded BattleBlock Theater for free the other day, that isn't a part of Games with Gold?

hmm. never felt like playing crysis 3, but might as well download it in case.

I'm grateful my ps+ expires this month. I have every platform with the games on and there's nothing I want to play.

I'll get it again when they put some real games on there for the ps4.

Meh on both the PS4 and the XB1. But Dishonored gets the lead for the 360. So, GWG i guess.

Dishonored is imo the best game on there so I choose XBL. I have Crysis 3 on the PC and it was so boring I did not even finish it.

I have posted in two threads, I'll grab those and modify those posts into a super post for this. I will BRIEFLY break this down as much as I can within a post.

Looking at the PS4 and Xbone: The PS4 will now be at 14 PS+ free games since Nov. launch, the Xbone will hit 5 GwG free games since Nov. launch with this August update.

This will put the Xbone's $60 GwG service at 5 total games since November launch. These aren't the best of titles, but free is nice.

360 (2 Games)

2 free GwG August Metascores =

1. Motocross Madness (73/100) from Aug 1-15,
2. Dishonored (88/100) from Aug. 16-31.

Dishonored is the only winner out of that grouping, IMO with Motocross being a distant second.

Dragon's Crown is awesome, but it has a limited audience since it's got old-school flavors. I own the PS3 version (82/100), but it's nice to have Dragon's Crown when on the go with the Vita. Good lineup and I like that Vita and PS3 got more than two games.

This will put the PS4's $50 PS+ service at 14 total games since November launch. One title is amazing and one is a mystery brand new IP (New free game could be good or bad).

Two games are brand new with Sony's own Metrico (no scores yet) and the new Road not Taken which also has no Metascore. Those two games it's hard to know if they are good or bad, but they are new.

I wasn't a fan of Proteus, but it has it's fans with an 80/10 Metascore. Fez is still sitting at 91/100. I don't like Crysis though, but I can see others might. After Crysis 2, I swore off the series. I see Crysis 3 got a 77/100.

The only "great" and single retail game with Games w/Gold four offerings is Dishonored which was a good game. PS+ has Dragon's Crown and Crysis 3 retail to counter that single game. PS+ doesn't stop there, PS+ also has two mystery new titles (Metrico and Road Not Take) which is hard to compare until they release.

PS+ DD games also are of higher quality from FEZ to Proteus vs. Strike Suit and Crimson Dragon, that's not including the two mystery titles (Metrico and Road Not Taken) this month coming to PS+.

Sony's offerings this month don't go below 77/100. They offer more games (on PS3 vs. 360). They also offer a 91/100 title. I say PS+ has got GwG beat again this month.

Finally, looking at platforms:

360 owners get TWO games. PS3 owners get FOUR games. FOUR games (PS3) > TWO games (360).

Xbone owners get TWO games. PS4 owners get TWO games. The Xbone games are low scoring games (a 56/100 and and 67/100). That's not good. The PS4 games consist on one mystery quality title (TBD) and one amazing 91/100 scoring title. PS4 has the edge there.

Xbox doesn't have a handheld platform so they don't offer anything, but Sony's handheld get's four games. That's hit or miss considering if you handheld game on Vita. It should be noted though that's an opportunity for Xbox to do more with 360 and Xbone's GwG though since they don't have a handheld platform to support. If not more games for Xbone and 360, higher quality titles. Dishonored is a good move though, credit there, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Dragons crown is the best of that group and was on my radar to pick up so this is excellent news. I have the console version so free handheld version sounds great to me. Anyone want to coop it let me know.

I had a feeling it was going to be fez this month for some reason. I never spent more than a few minutes with it so I'm cool with that.

Xbl looks ok. Not a huge dishonored fan, but free games are rad.

Dishonored is a great offer if you haven't played yet, and I say that even though I don't like the game as much as most. After that I'd say GwG this month is pretty meh, but I'm not very familiar with the other releases.

PS+ side it's a great month for Vita. I'm pumped to try dig into Dragon's Crown, Metrico has been on my radar for a while now, and Fez is a great game for those who haven't played yet. I'm looking forward to playing it on Vita, but it's nice to see all systems have it available.

The other three? I never heard of Proteus or Road not Taken (which is a new release), so who knows? Crysis 3... isn't for me.

Dishonored was horrible, huge let down. Have been dying to play Fez and Dragon's Crown, PS+ for me.

It's not even close, dishonoured is probably (from what I hear) the only good game on the Xbox list. PS+ won this.

Motocross Madness is so bad, how it got 8.4 on ign I don't know, then again they are called 9GN for a reason. Strike Suit Zero is mind numbingly boring. And tbh I pretty much turned Crimson Dragon on and then off again.

I'd take Crysis 3 over all four of those Xbox games.

Dragon's Crown is really the only great game this month for PS+ and I already own it. Fez and Road Not Taken are probably the only games I'll try this month for PS+. I already own the GoTY edition of Dishonored, so I won't be getting that, but I'll play the other 3 games for Xbox 360/XBox One.

neither looks impressive. but at least i'll get to play some Fez. Passed up on buying that game several times.

Lots of free games on both services.... I win.

Still haven't played Dishonored so I'm happy about that. Will give Crimson Dragon a try too though to see if it's even close to as good as Panzer Dragoon (keeping my expectations low though). Other than that, don't care about the other two but I'll download them anyway (maybe Strike Suit Zero is fun).

Couldn't give two craps about Crysis 3. Proteus and Metrico could be cool I guess. Again, I'll download them but just for the sake of it. Dragon's Crown sounds cool. Very interested in Fez but Road Not Taken... ehhh, could be good I guess.

Overall, I think I give the advantage to PlayStation Plus but both were decent-alright. Nothing really special.

I don't care what the list is, I'll take whichever one doesn't disappear once my subscription is up.

EA with Origin is beating everybody these days with free stuff. Because all you need is an account and you get whatever they give away for free, forever. Steam has given away one or two (from what I can tell) and they are the same, EA has just given away more (Dead Space, Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies and Sims 2 Ultimate).

I pay both service so I can play online games, and get whatever free games that comes my way. All you need to know is that I got Money. August month is okay, no explanation needed and I ain't voting cause there's no: both are good this month.

You're added. Cross-play and cross-save with Vita/Ps3. I hope europe-u.s. doesn't lag.
