https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-12-17-people-of-the-year-phil-spencer

People of the Year: Phil Spencer-Gamesindustry.biz

"The Xbox strategy was made clear this year. As Nintendo focused on Super Smash Bros, and Sony ran out of things to announce, Microsoft used the opportunity to set out its vision for the next generation, and that vision is big, multi-faceted and hugely ambitious. It involves subscription services, streaming technology, multiple consoles, mobile, development services, PC ecosystems and even community platforms."

"Xbox opened its wallet and acquired a string of established studios, including Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, Obsidian and InXile. The company has also built another development team called The Initiative.

This investment ends the speculation that Microsoft just isn't that serious about games (which is now a $10 billion business within the tech giant)."

The positive Xbox news just keeps coming don't it.

Before getting triggered I recommend you just read the full article first.

That’s cool. I think Phil Spencer deserves it. He and Microsoft have been doing a number of things that I find interesting and appealing.

1 positive article out of 100 negative ones. MS is doing better as time goes on though at least. Next gen has to be about games first. This gen was mostly resolution talks and bad fps. Next gen shouldn't have to issue, so it should be a lot of talk about how good the games are. Looking forward to that.

Weird that everything you're suggesting is positive for MS are things that are horrible for console gaming.

MS's "vision" are things I'm never supporting from any console provider because its cheap, greedy and devalues console identity.

There is nothing positive to take from this article, it shows MS is still trying to turn the console industry into a pay the the minute environment.

I'll stop gaming before I support companies using those shitty industry degrading tactics.

A few game sites have been, like Kotaku, and they always start by taking digs at Sony. We know who pays for these.

Phil Spencer doesn't get a pass until he can get some good content for Xbox going again. You don't need an Xbox to play their games anymore so something obviously went south.

Ok noted I expect you to hold the same stance when Sony starts doing the same thing with PS Now. Because that certainly is going to be a thing.

Microsoft's major focus these past 3 years has been to set out its vision for the next generation.

Sony may be quite about things, but Microsoft looks like they want to get past this generation as fast as possible.

When you think about it, the ps3 is a copy of the Xbox and the ps4 is a copy of the 360 so yes, MS is the clear winner of industry innovation.

Yeah lets pretend the PS2 didn't happen.

This nonsense that the PS4 = the 360 is downright stupid.

Is not the PS4 is a great selling console the xbox 360 was average selling.

Yeah they are soooo innovative..

They invented online,electricity,games,backward compatibility,cross play,FPS,racers,analogues,rumble.

360 was definitely above average selling lol. It's the 5th or 6th best selling console ever.

He deserves it, he def turned the ship around along with Satya. Lots of cool services like gamepass and upcoming xcloud. Ill get to game a lot more and play more games, just giving more options to keep gaming which i dont get on my ps4, would be nice if psnow was on par with gamepass and rolled out to more devices like xcloud will do. MS just seems like they constantly have stuff cooking and Sony is stagnant. Hopefully Sony will counter next gen with some good services to make you want to invest into the playstation eco system, cause right now i play a game finish it and then back to gaming on xbox and playing tons of new games on gamepass.
