Seeing how often you have to upgrade to keep up with the latest tech, and how low the value of an old card drops once the new ones come out. And if you sell, then where at; Ebay, Amazon? How much do you sell them for, half the price you bought them? No hidden console fanboyism question here, just curious.

Sitting in my basement. I might reuse it to build a computer for my family or just a PC for older games to play.

I currently have an X800XT PE, two HD 4890's, two HD 6870's, an HD 7970 Ghz Edition and when Vega releases I'll have another two R9 290X's in the closet.

I give them away... I gave my MSI R9 380 4GB to my neighbours 16 year old who was using a GTX 660.

I gave a whole system away a few years ago... It was my Phenom II X4 B50 at 3.3GHz with a HD 6870 1GB and 2x4GB DDR2 RAM along with a 320GB HDD to my cousin who wanted to get into PC gaming but was 14 and couldn't afford it.

Gave my GTX 680 away, my GTX 960 Strix(to my wife).

It may seem like I am being generous but really it just gives me a excuse to upgrade :D.

When ever I replace my 4 year old gpu for a new, I would most likey keep by having it as a backup gpu, or put intoa new pc for a family member.

Sell them on Craigslist and use that money to offset the cost of the new card.

Wow I would gladly take those old cards of your's. My laptop is so old that it can barely play any youtube videos without stuttering. Not that it bothers me much since I'm mostly mobile now a days. Must feel great to have the latest tech on your screen. I'll forsure build a gaming PC for GTA 6, imagine the tech we'll have then

Either sell them or repurpose them to a side machine.

As for pricing, I just look at the prices of other used cards and then undercut them by a bit.

I either give it/them away to a friend, or I build a secondary pc for someone that needs it. My 2 6950's are still sitting in my closet though, everyone I know has a good pc now.

ebay. The price really depends on its value at the time I ditch it, but... I do not upgrade often. It isn't necessary, despite what consolites or hardcore master racers think. There's a lot of longevity for the average joe PC gamer in a good video card

You really have a time limit on when to sell them for a decent return. I jump the boat early and sold my 980ti immediately before the new 1000's were released not too long ago. Currently I am running my old 970 that I also plan to sell but it seems that'll be impossible now with the super cheap 1060 being out. Probably best get $165 now, $180 if lucky. I might just hold out now for the next few years because if a $300-$400 console can last 5+ years then I expect my $349 GPU to aswell.

I still use my old 4 Gb GTX 770. My eldest kid has an R9 290x while my youngest kid has a 2 Gb R9 380 (bought used). Right now, I'm happy just playing Far Cry 3 and 4 plus GTA V.

Give them to my brother for his PC or throw them away. Reason I don't sell them is that I'm concerned that they may not live that much longer, and I don't want products I sell to break down right after I sell them. (Would make me feel bad, and I don't want to have to deal with angry people.) I don't upgrade that quickly. Like once every 4 years.

Offloading to your family is one thing, but it's very generous to give away an R9 380 to your neighbours 16 year old. You probably made his year.

Hm I didn't expect so many people to sell them. How do you deal with unsatisfied customers? Or is that a rare occurrence? I mean, after several years of daily use those things become more prone to failure.

I don't have a bad feeling when I describe them correctly. If you buy something used, you have to live with it. I am very very honest in my descriptions. I usually describe things I sell worse than they actually are just ot be fair.

I give them away usually. Also keep a few around to power older pcs. I have a 680gtx im giving away soon to replace an old 460 card. If its someone in the family i give it away. I guess if i didn't know anyone who needed them i'd try to sell them.

The oldest 3d graphics card I still have is a Creative 3dfx banshee card. Which was one of the first cards to combine 3d and 2d in one card... its in a old dos PC which i rarely need to use since most games run fine on Dosbox.

I usually keep them with the intention on building a PC to use in my game room or living room. I also like to play around with using them as Physx cards. Here is a Titan Black sli with a GTX 690 for physx. I actually got a 17fps avg improvement on Batman AO doing this.

Next upgrade will be a Pascal Titan X with a Titan Black physx card. No more sli though.

I've had a bad experience selling an old GPU on Amazon and 1 good one. I've also had a great experience selling old GPUs on a hardware forum. But this last experience on Amazon has turned me away from selling my old cards. I'll stick with handing them down to my younger brother or using them in space PC for the kids.

On to the Amazon Story:

I had a old GTX 280 in my closet. Before I put her away from using it I cleaned her off really good and she sat in there for about 4 years. About 12 months ago I figured I would sell it since it wasn't going to get any further use from me. My younger brother had my second GTX 280 that has been in use since I bought them at the end of 2009. The card easily had 6+ years of use and was still going strong.

Anyway, I took the one I still had and replaced the TIM on it since the GPU is aged. I then tested the card out and she ran cool and put up numbers when compared to other GTX 280 cards in benchmark tests and I had no issues when using the card in a couple of games.

I put the card for sale on Amazon, posted pics with it of how it works and so on....

Card sells and I ship it out. The customer got the card and contacted me a day after he got it and said the card didn't work. He wanted to return it. I issued a RMA and the customer took nearly 2 weeks to send it back. During the time that the card was still shipping back to me, the customer blasted me on Amazon because I wouldn't pay for shipping the item back and that it was broken and I sold him faulty hardware. Two days later the card was finally delivered to me.

Now, it certainly is possible something happened with the card during shipping and that it could have broken. I took the card out, I checked the serial number on the card to the number I wrote down (to make sure the same card came back if any issues) and they did match. I then installed the card and tested it - it worked just fine. It worked just like the day it did when I last tested it. I even loaded up a couple of games and played them for a while - no issues.

I had to compile a number of pictures and email to Amazon to show them that the customer posted a false negative feedback about the product not working. I then emailed to the customer telling them of everything that I did (testing the card to contacting Amazon about his false negative feedback) and how they were removing it. I also asked the customer if he tried any troubleshooting on the card when he got it. I asked what kind of PSU was he using and asked why he didn't ask for help instead of trying to blast me. I never heard back from him. He was out almost $20 for shipping back the card, I had my card back and I can work on selling it again should I feel the need.

My guess is the guy had a shitty PSU and thought he could run an older card (this is a power hungry card, draws upwards of 250W), but the system wouldn't boot or he was just stupid and couldn't figure out how to use it.

I sold one of my old GTX 570s on Amazon. I think for around $125. Easy sale. No complaint for the person that bought it. I always keep the box and all the packaging my hardware comes in. You'll see better return if you do sell it or at the very least, you have a place to put the hardware back if you want to store it.

I also had an old PC game that had all the original box, artwork, jewel case, discs and extra things that came in box. I sold it for almost $80.
