The 'games make kids violent' furore has now turned its fiery attention on Nintendo as the company gears up to launch the gun-shaped Wii Blaster Remote attachment.

Angry parents are in fits over Nintendo's decision to release the peripheral for the family-orientated console. "Great, this is what we need," said one furious parent blogger. "Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot. Then we can sit back and wonder what is happening to our country with kids killing kids."

They added: "What's next? Could we make it squirt blood, too?" Well, no because it would go all over the TV and that would be rubbish.

Advertisement: "Why don't they enclose an application to the NRA (National Rifle Association) in every box as well? The marketing person who came up with this brain child of an idea should be fired," commented a "very concerned grandparent".

Another said in the US blog: "I think it's irresponsible for Wii to come out with a controller that looks like a gun. What kind of message are we sending as parents when we buy these things for our kids?" If you think it's irresponsible, why would you buy it for your child?

Is it not down to the parent to take responsibility for what games their children own and play?

Don't buy it for the kids then.

Seriously, people need to take responsibility for the upbringing of their kids and stop blaming everyone else.

I can remember shooting with my water gun all summer when I was young... Fun times.

Oh wait, it thought me to shoot a gun, and now I'm a violent criminal!

People need to start thinking and taking some responsibilities. Worst of all, these people may even think they've got a good point. If they mean this seriously they should also attempt a ban on water guns, otherwise they're only attacking a form of media.

Damn straight. I have 2 young boys and they play Mario games on Wii. I would never let them play RE4 or Red Steel. I won't even let them play Zelda yet. It's stupid parents that buy the stuff for thier young kids and then complain about it. It's obviously not marketed for the kids. All Nintendo is doing is finally providing some more adult content to it's lineup. No complaints here.

As a parent and a professional who works with kids, knowing how to shoot and aim does not make a kid a killer. It goes way deeper than that. If these parents are so worried about their kid playing with this periphial, maybe instead of attacking Nintendo they should spend a little time getting to know their kids. Just my opinion.

Is it really that hard for parents to control thir on kids?

And we all know how to aim and shoot. Just point and pull the trigger. But how will the zapper really teach kids how to assemble or load a gun?

Attention Angry Parents! See that? Kids were "learning how to aim and shoot" with this even more realistic gun perhipheral over 20 years ago. Nintendo followed that up by giving the kiddes a BAZOOKA. And guess what? Crime rates have gone DOWN. In summary: Stop being such ignorant alarmists.

The Wii gun is aimed at children with it's kiddy design. And just look at the games. Where are all the M-rated action games?

If they were selling a replica sawed-off shotgun or .40, I would be a little closer to understanding this complaint. If it were something that looked even REMOTELY similar to anything that could do damage to a human, it might be unwise for some parents to buy it for their children. As it is, this is as terrible as buying your children barbies and GI Joes.

This kind of nonsense reminds me of an old family friend from when I was younger. At first she didn't want her child to have a realistic toy gun so she bought him a bright orange watergun. Eventually even that was too much so it got taken away as well. Then the kid ran around pointing his finger saying, "Bang". It's what kids do, especially boys. They have always played like this in the past, a very small percentage ever actually continue these violent tendencies into adulthood. If a parent doesn't like this Wii Blaster, then don't buy it. It won't teach them to use a real gun anymore then if they were pointing there finger around yelling, "Bang".

It's not like you need to learn really. Pick up a gun and aim, I think that's pretty much encoded in genetics, our eyes pretty much understand that concept before the age 13. Plus, movies will teach them some of the more confusing things(Reloading), but then, there's the question......"Why are these kids getting guns", maybe parents should pull their heads out of their arses and realize there's such things as safes, etc. The only person to blaim is stupid people for letting the kids get them, and mental diseases, for kids becoming sociopaths....
