Why are they comparing it to the 5870 and not the 5890??? Which is closer the the 480 price range. I still feel that ATI will just one up them as soon as this stuff hits the street. It may not be right away, but it will be very soon after these are released.KillfoxThis is true. It also seems to only really best 5870 when tessellation is being utilized. A feature that very few games are using or are about to use.
I like this, very down to earth, not bloated. This is a high end rig you would find in the real world with somebody who has some money and knows how to keep a computer optimized. Very awesome Nvidia, very awesome.
B.T.W. I want that triplehead 3d monitor setup.
If the card is $500 or less I'll think about buying it. But I also know Nvidia's next card is due sometime at the end of this year.
DX11 benchmark is only thing that matters right now in order to decide if i should get the 5870 or the 480, but im waiting for more benchies to be released soon though.
but it looks like the 5870 card will take a big nose dive in heavy tessellation games.
[QUOTE="stereointegrity"]i want to see this thing up against the 5970 from sapphire KillfoxExactly what I said. I could care less how the 480 compares the 5870. oc'd 480 should be inches away from 5970 in dx11 games
and i prefer single gpu solution instead.
[QUOTE="stereointegrity"]or the rumored 5990ZoomZoom2490same as 5970 but with 2 gigs.well that new sapphire 5970 has 4 gigs....hmmm maybe somone will create a crazy 5990
if 480 ends up being faster than the 5870 which it will then nvida will charge what ever it wants since its the fastest single gpu on the market, its always been like from both companies.

Nvidia won't price it too high as they know they need to make up loss ground during the time the 58xx was out.if 480 ends up being faster than the 5870 which it will then nvida will charge what ever it wants since its the fastest single gpu on the market, its always been like from both companies.

Though I already have a 5870 I think when next year rolls around and I build a new PC I'll most likely go back to Nvidia again.[QUOTE="Killfox"][QUOTE="stereointegrity"]i want to see this thing up against the 5970 from sapphire InstashotExactly what I said. I could care less how the 480 compares the 5870. 5890 is a dual GPU. Dual vs Single is a bad way to compare. I disagree. Only if the price/power consumption is way off. But looking at these two cards that doesn't seem to be the case.
The AA was turned off! He might have compared the 4x AA 5870 with the turned off AA of GTX 480. watch it carefully!malikmmmoh snaps!
I hate to say it i really do since i am an nvidia fan and i will probably buy 2 gtx 480's but the performance is way way lackluster, look closely at the benchmark, in spots the 5870 beats it albeit by a hair, now some ppl might be saying BUT BUT the tesselation, yah yah, but what a little bit of googling will tell u, is that tesselation is not expected to be used much if at all in alot of games. And on top of that, they also picked the benchmark that best suits the 480 and it still gets beat a bit by the 5870 in spots.
Sort of pathetic if u ask me, do u guys remember when the 200 sereies launched and everyone though ATI had no chance, but then the 4800s came out and the performance was very close to the 200s, was kinda funny cause nvidia had to drop prices by like 200 bux over night lol.
And that is their only option now, they need to price it competitively with the 5800s, i dont think the vast majority of ppl are gonna get suckered into paying 700 bux for a card that isnt any faster except in tesselation, which is in no games.......now if you use your card for other things besides gaming, then the 480 is a very very good choice, but for the masses.....they better be around 500

I would also wait until in game benches before judging
NVIDIA tops ATI yet again.KHAndAnime
In what games? Random tesselation benchmarks that the 5970 probably beats any ways and in which the 5870 is at least sometimes close or better according to nvidia's own chart?
I say you should wait for in-game benchmarks before making such assumptions.
NVIDIA tops ATI yet again.KHAndAnimethey better with the amount of extra time they had to develop the thing...

It beat ATI in a benchmark that was specifically designed for ATI cards...Which one? Heaven? Because all that does is ridiculous tessellation, and although all dx11 cards have this feature, it's application in games is very limited as of now. By the time really demanding dx11 games come out there will be a new series of graphics cards from both companies. Also, they don't use AA in the videos I have seen. ATI 5000 series barely drops with AA enabled, I would like to see if the same is true for the GTX480.

Just FTR, but aren't plenty of games already in development with DX11, including tessellation, in mind? I understand this had been sought to intelligently optimize model rendering depending on distance and computing availability, allowing for gorgeously-rendered models when the situation allows and automatically falling back to less-detailed ones when more performance is needed. It's about as close as we'll get to the overkill models used in JRPG CGI clips before we reach the realtime raytracing step (which according to stuff I've read actually isn't as far off as we thought).I would really, really like some DX11 exclusive games now. Actually, they should probably release a powerful, energy efficent, low temp DX11 card before any DX11 games come out so that the game would still sell.

Id love to see a DX11 only game as well, tesselation is the future, its whats used in offline rendering, its the next step in making games more better overall, not stupid 3D :D
But it isin't going to happen for years, i mean how long has DX10 been out, and only now are we getting DX10 only games (Shattered Horizon andJust Cause 2)

Well, initially, Vista wasn't as successful as everyone was anticipating so I can understand the lack of DX10 games. But come on, even I have Windows 7!!

Any sensible PC gamer has Windows 7...64Bit!!! :D
XP and 32bit need to die, the sooner the better, and the soon all games will move over to DX10/11 and be able to use more than 2gb of ram.
