NPD: March 2022/ 1st Quarter 2022

Just a few tidbits from a VERY Long twitter thread by Mat (I suggest you follow him for more details). On the last tweet I suspect when the PSVR2 is released it will outsell the Elite Series 2 initially

I like my Elite Series 2 controller a lot, but it feels a bit heavier than my other controllers.

Forgot this one.. supply remains an issue for HW

Nice to see the Series consoles doing well. Hopefully these supply constraints will start easing relatively soon and we’ll start seeing some Series X’s on store shelves. Would love to pick one up myself. Kudos to FromSoftware on the success of Elden Ring. It truly is a fantastic game.

This is why I said we needed to wait for the NPD before calling Horizon dead. Top 3 YTD and top 5 for March. That kinda disproves the narrative going around on this board and Twitter…

I see a lot of Nintendo and Sony made games on those lists. Where are the Xbox games??? Y’all said you’re still buying them… Wouldn’t know from the charts…

Really wish Nintendo would share their digital sales with NPD. Their games do so well even just using the physical numbers but it would interesting to see how they chart with the complete sales numbers.

I see Minecraft on the list. Xbox Game Studios has 238,000,000 sold so far.

No idea. But I have been seeing notifications of more and more PS5s being available the past couple months. Not sure how that is panning out related to GT7. It's the best selling GT, dollar wise, for the GT series ever in the US. But it's also the first 2 platform GT game.

Hell yea mah Elden Ring is destroying. @blaznwiipspman1 is kinda mad at the moment.

These record sales are attributed to Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. BOOM!

@goldenelementxl: You are expecting Xbox games to be listed on the NPD when no new games were released in the timeframe? Are you really thinking objectively or even clearly? That is ignoring the fact that every Xbox game is going to be on Gamepass.

Looks like lems are buying less exclusives than sheep buying 3rd party titles. Never have i thought of seeing this. Its pathetic.

‘Course we don’t buy them if they’re available on GP. That’s why Sony are launching their joke of a subscription service without day 1 exclusives…..sales of ps5 exclusives would dive if they included as much quality on PSPlus as there is on Gamepass.

Sony had GT7, HW, and Elden Ring and still got destroyed by Xbox. Wow. Sony even had all those bundles with GT7 and HW included in these charts.

You really don’t see yourself as the one spinning? Old Nintendo games charted. PS games from 2018 and 2020 charted. Yet you come in here in your Maytag dryer, spinning furiously… The only valid point you have is Game Pass, but you won’t say the service has a negative impact on sales. Why? And you can’t use digital games not counting in NPD, because Nintendo doesn’t report them either. Yet here we are, with 6-7 Nintendo games, some 4-5 years old, charting…

Yes, I missed Minecraft. A game that’s studio was bought out by Xbox 3 years after the game launched. But hey, at least one of their acquisitions is paying off! Somebody has to actually sell some games over there…

And again, we are seeing 4-5 year old Nintendo games charting, while there are also newer games, also charting… You sure have to ignore a lot of information in order to make your argument “work.” And even then, it requires a ton of disingenuous takes

@goldenelementxl: *sigh* for the nth time, define "negative imact".. Xbox Games Studios titles still chart at the top during launch months.. and in the following months, all games tend to fall off (Nintendo being the obvious exception because, well .. it's Nintendo)..

Now do Xbox Games Studios titles have less legs in the following months?.. maybe.. there's certainly a case to be made there.. but Microsoft is just as concerned, if not more concerned, about growing Game Pass subs in comparison to per-unit sales..

so looking at it from that standpoint, lets compare:

Xbox Game Studios titles tend to chart in launch months.. they tend to fall off in following months but Game Pass subs are at over 25 million due (likely) to the inclusion of Day One first-party content..

PlayStation Studios titles tend to chart in launch months.. they tend to have much less of a fall off in the following months but PS Now has failed at only about 3 million subs (likely) due to the lack of including Day One first-party content..

so if Microsoft wants to grow Game Pass as a major part of their gaming platform, and Day One content is the key to achieving that, where is the "negative impact"?.. games are still selling, Game Pass is still growing, and their consoles are in high demand.. i mean, what am i missing?.. should we be "concerned" about something?. 🤔

And again, Nintendo has old games, new games, all charting. PS has old games, new games, charting. Xbox has a game they had nothing to do with the production of, as their sole representation on the NPDs. Congrats?
