Here is a tech analysis of a video game from where you were not even a tadpole swimming in glue looking for a Tamagotchi to invade.

I was in college when the first tomb raider came out... 😬 I was chasing tail not whatever a Tamagochi is. Lol
Funny, I was in Middle School when the first Tomb Raider game came out and by that time, every video game magazines was all over Lara Croft. Good times with the game but man, those tank controllers were a pain😔
Even the man in that video seems to contradict himself with "ah new controls", but then the second half "wait, they actually break the game"
People who do not use tank controls should be shunned.

I remember wanting to play it BECAUSE of Laura croft. Lol... I finally did and was like, "wtf is this s***"? Did... Not.... Enjoy.
@uninspiredcup: As you know I'm as retro as it gets, but I played the OG Tomb Raider game about 6 months ago on my Sega Saturn and it hasn't aged well (the control layout I mean) it's very clunky.
I played it for about 3hrs, and while I got the hang of the controls again, it's still aged very poorly. Shun me all you want, but if I buy it down the road I will be trying the new controls first.

I played all of them about a year back and had a blast.
Once get to Legend it's no longer Tomb Raider.
Auto-save every 30 seconds, linear boring levels, no more exploration or item management, 2 weps at a time, annoying gimmicky combat, story shit that's just annoying etc...
@uninspiredcup: I'm very well versed on the TR franchise Cup. All I'm saying is in this instance the controls of the OG at least are very clunky as you know, and it would take too much time for people to get used to it.
I will get the remasters at a cheap price and see how the modern controls work or indeed don't work.
Only thing I recall about Tomb Raider 3 is that there was the mansion you could roam around in and that I couldn't beat the first level. Ah, good times.
Can def see modern players getting stumped at the levels, they are so incredibly simplistic and boring now.
But at the same time, it isn't like the old days where buy physical guides, just look up stuff on the internet in seconds.
Fake. Must be streamed from licensed PS1 hardware. Everyone knows the PS1 is more powerful than the Switch. I mean the Switch doesn't even have a disc drive...joke system :P.
In all seriousness though...what is the player doing in that video? Tell me that's not how people played it with the old tank controls. Jump away and shoot them while in the air man! Why is he looking for a lock on? Lara locked on automatically.
I may pick this up at some point as I am getting an itch to play it. I only ever played the first one. PC version though.
....And i'll play it properly: With tank controls!

Ah the good ol' days of heading to the book store and reading the Prima guides.
I could just play the first 4 Tomb Raiders for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. Controls, story, atmosphere, gameplay, everything is perfect.
These remasters make me quite happy.
@last_lap: I feel like flesh physics have been absent in games for a long time, or maybe I'm not playing the games that have it.
@girlusocrazy: I think the industry realises that consumers aren't made up of mostly virgin teenage boys anymore. The average age of gamers these days is 30 odd and more & more women are getting into gaming.
It's just that those virgin teenage boys are now virgin men and now making nude mods on PC 🤣
@R4gn4r0k: what about a nude mod with the classic triangular prism boobs? Now we're talking
You do you, dude
I feel Uninspiredcup brought this upon himself.
Eh. The console versions suffer from a problem with frame-rate that needs patched. The PC version is instantly fixed with a change in NVidia options. The PC version also allowes higher frame-rates above 60fps.
The main issue is that lack of graphic options, specifically resolution. It's an old game, so, don't really need any options, but basic resolution wreaks of PC laziness and something that the modded version I played through last year did have.
The console versions are also 1/3 more than the PC price currently.
@uninspiredcup: Well on PC 1/4 of people steal their games, so by having a lower price they're trying to encourage Hermits to buy it not steal it.
This is true, PC gamers are largely disgusting thief's who deserve nothing.
However this being an older game, it will largely appeal to older gamers with more income, alongside nostalgia for a time before Lara become a whiny uni student who walked in a line.
PS5 version for me. Old school Lara only feels right on PlayStation. Even The Lost Artifact and Gold levels, which were never on PS until now.
Then again, I'll probably re-buy on PC down the line anyway.
@uninspiredcup: As I'm sure you're well aware theft doesn't discriminate against age.
And there were 2 TR games released last gen, so it would appeal to a younger audience too. And other curious on how the franchise begun, as well as nostalgia for older gentlemen such as myself.
Really enjoying it. Playing with tank controls and old graphics. Luv me uprezzed old games. I switch back and forth in some areas. New artstyle doesn't look bad. They didn't overdo it. Still has a certain mobile game look, but whatever. Game's fine. Really fine, actually.
This is fantastic, I'm really enjoying this. I'm getting the hang of the tank controls. Tried a bit of the modern controls, felt kinda weird.

The Switch also plays its own exclusives in 60 fps too but I guess we'll just ignore that for now...
Great Wall Of China is still indelibly marked as one fav openings to game.
It's somewhat better than holding down the "forward" button while a bunch of fake tension cinematics fire off.

Tomb Raider Anniversary and Underworld remedy this... just sayin'....
Good time thus far, basically feel like they've been upgraded to a Dreamcast game, maybe PS2.
The lack of options for classic mode another minor blemish, 30fps, no texture filtering like the PC. Seems like they were trying to emulate the PS1 as much as they could.

These suck too.
Only Crystal Dynamics TR games like are Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. Rest can go in the trash.
