Shares of Nintendo (NTDOY) have plunged 16% so far in June.

Do you think this is the beginning of more disappointment or will Nintendo recover from this and give gamers what they want? I hope we don't have a Wii U situation where suddenly the hype fades over and the system does poorly. It seems like the Switch has a lot more potential, so Nintendo would really have to screw up for it to happen.

No way it'll be another Wii U situation... but it was always going to be hard for Switch to maintain that momentum, without a new Mario or Zelda. We'll definitely see a pickup again with Pokemon though.

They need to eliminate the DS and put all resources toward the switch. They simply do not have the third party support to stay relevant.

This happens all the time. There's no reason for panic whatsoever.
Yes, they had a bad E3 show. But there is more than enough in the pipeline to keep the momentum going.

^^ This is what I've saying since the start of the year....... No system sellers and dwindling 3rd party support.......

Nintendo didn't have much to show off and they tried very hard to advertising SSB Ultimate was all they could do.

happens all the time. there is no doubt that this years E3 didnt have the same impact as the last 2 but the last 2 had huge games to show.

smash is big but its not that big. it also has the whiff of just one big collection of existing stuff rather than having a lot of new stuff which probably isnt doing it any favours. but when it releases..well....its going to make nintendo a few quid. the switch is also the perfect platform for such a game.

the stock market is not a solid indicator of anything so its nothing to worry about. i mean apple shares have been known to drop on the back of very strong iphone sales just because they werent as strong as speculated. its just a speculation game at the end of the day. chances are a lot of the drop is just from investors not knowing what smash is....yet.

i wouldnt be worried. look what they have left in the clip. when the proper pokemon game is shown and released it is going to sell a lot of switches. MP4 wont be a huge system seller but it should be a good hype builder. same for bayonetta 3. animal crossing hauls in big numbers also and could be an effective system seller with the right enhancements and marketing (that should be the lead title at an E3..or maybe it and pikmin in the same year). there is loads of smaller IP that bring in solid numbers too.

When you are a company that has been around since the late 1800s, (yes over 120 years) you tend to not worry about stuff like this. Nintendo has never been a reactionary company. Like it or not, they always have a plan.

Sony's share prices also went down after E3, although not as much.

I guess nobody's show impressed potential shareholders?

Despite my grievances with Nintendo, this is a non-issue for them. This has happened before after E3 and other reveals, and it was a blip. Stock rallied and gained afterwards. Nintendo just doesn't play ball with trying to wow consumers and shareholders when a launch isn't imminent.

There's reason to panic when next gen is around the corner.

They're gonna need lots of good games to make up for next year's potential reveal.

So you expect a next-gen Nintendo in 2020? I don't see the Switch lasting much longer after 2020.

I remember when Charizard was talking about how both Nintendo’s handheld and console echo systems would be combined for the Switch which should equate to the Switch having a much stronger and diverse line up of games.

Has that prediction been inaccurate so far? Or is it too early to tell?

Too early to tell, it would be pretty hard for it to be worse than Wii-U. This entire year and the E3 announcements are looking very "Wii-u" like though. But again, Wii-U was such a disaster - and the Switch sales pace is such that I'm sure Switch will at least pick up the pace a little. But I think the "much stronger and diverse lineup" is looking like a stretch. 3rd parties are mostly only on board for ports and indie type games.

I think we're definitely heading that way. We're getting a mainline Pokemon on the Switch, but we've yet to see a heavy shift from a lot of the 3DS developers.

sort of

i mean there will be more games on switch than wiiU and gamecube and N64 as far as consoles go.

however gamecube+GBA together had more games

wii +DS had the most games of all nintendo gens

switch will have more games than wiiU+3DS though

What worries me the most about the Switch is that we're not seeing as much of a shift of focus from portable developers as I thought there would be. I mean, those small budget companies that could get away with their games looking like they do because the 3ds is only a handheld wouldn't look so hot on the Switch next to Zelda and Mario. I do think the 3ds support will remain fairly strong for those 3rd party developers as long as Nintendo allow it or as long as there's no other underpowered handheld... or maybe they'll shift to phone games (which I doubt).

right...

just like most of them were not already on the switch.

However - "Dwindeling" suggests that the ammount of 3rd party games coming to the system is less, which from what I can see is not the case.

We all know high-end 3rd party games cannot make it on power alone.... the point is moot.

While it is unfortunate that Nintendo's stocks have dropped in recent days, but I am not an investor in the company so this news does not bother me at all. I am concerned over its games and its systems. The same goes with Microsoft and Sony.

Uh ? They didn't though.

Where Sony dropped Vita support as soon as they found out the thing wasn't selling as expected (same with PSVR), Nintendo continued to produce outstanding exclusives for Wii U long after it became clear the thing wasn't selling.

Nintendo ended up making a small profit on the Wii U by the end. That is called having a plan. Not too hard to understand.

And what were they doing at that time? Quietly making the Switch behind the scenes. That is called having a plan. It is odd the SW thinks that you can survive with large cash reserves in the bank for over 100 years by not having a plan.

That still doesnt back up your claim that the WiiU "made a profit"

And if the "plan" is killing a relatively recent console sooner than anticipated what a sh*tty plan that is...

Sorry I was not clear it was a per unit profit. You are still missing the point. People act as if Nintendo does not have a plan. All I was getting at is that Nintendo has been around since the late 1800s. It is by far the oldest of the video game companies that are viable today. That just does not happen without having a plan. Nintendo always have a plan. If they did not, they would not have survived that long at this level.

Let's be real here, the Switch hype was too much.

It won't be a disaster like Wii U but it also won't dethrone Playstation.

Why would anyone want it to dethrone PlayStation. The two could not be more different. My Switch sits right next to my Ps4 Pro. The are VERY happy together.

the only drought was the beginning of this year. there was no drought last year.

this year from jan-april(4 months) there was a drought. all we got was bayonetta 1+2, kirby star allies, Pay day 2, attack on titan 2, south park fractured but whole, naruto ultimate ninja storm trilogy. in 4 months 6 games. still not as bad as wiiU but i felt the pain.

however from May to the end of the year there will be no droughts.

May:
donkey kong tropical freeze
hyrule warriors definitive edition
one piece pirate warriors 3
mega man legacy collection1 and 2
street fighter 30th anniversary

June:
Mario tennis aces

And what were they doing at that time? Quietly making the Switch behind the scenes. That is called having a plan. It is odd the SW thinks that you can survive with large cash reserves in the bank for over 100 years by not having a plan.

That still doesnt back up your claim that the WiiU "made a profit"

Sorry I was not clear it was a per unit profit. You are still missing the point. People act as if Nintendo does not have a plan. All I was getting at is that Nintendo has been around since the late 1800s. It is by far the oldest of the video game companies that are viable today. That just does not happen without having a plan. Nintendo always have a plan. If they did not, they would not have survived that long at this level.

The "plan" is still a s*tty "plan". Truth is the WiiU died way too early in its lifetime. The Switch is already 9th gen and we're still two years away from the other brands to enter next gen at minimum. I'm pretty sure those who invested in the WiiU werent happy just like Vita owners werent when they see the platform they invested money on to die so quickly

so, again, if the "plan" for the WiiU was killing it fast to release a new one then that's still a sh*tty plan

That is why I said like it or not. Every company has these moments. Do you think Sony planned on going nearly bankrupt a few years back? Of course not. They made adjustments sold off divisions (like Sony Online Entertainment) then rebounded. Sony is still around and successful because they always have a plan. Same as Nintendo. No one gets it right every time.

Shitstation? Weird considering how many great games are on it. People that think the PlayStation or the Switch suck are just delusional at this point in my opinion.

400€ for 10 years of enjoyment? I'm fine with the "shistation" then, thank you. Better than a 5 year cycle with overpriced and yet underpowered hardware

10 years yea right. 10 years for africans and southamericans with 2 quarters to rub together. everyone else including you liar upgrade your shit stations almost immediately after launch. so dont feed me this 10 year crap that nobody but late adopters and poor people care about.

as for the games. games are subjective. oh and underpowered? like your playstaoinbore that needed a mid gen refresh? because of how underpowered it was? or you mean muh pro where its still garbage 30fps that is useless on ever4yones 4k tvs? that underpowered you mean??
