Curious as to what new software you can expect to see on Wii U, Nintendo's next generation of home consoles? The answer might lie in the bevy of trademarks Nintendo recently filed.

According to Siliconera, not long before June's E3 press conference, Nintendo went on something of a trademark bender. Of course, this is rather normal for a company to do when launching a new system, and isn't necessarily representative of what is actually being developed. Still, take a look at the titles they've trademarked if you want a glimpse at what might be in the works.

IMO it shows that Nintendo is doing a Wii 2.0 and not a "hardcore system" as they say.

it's safety trademarking. just like when they trademarked a whole lot of crap for the 3DS just like that, and ended up not using half the trademarks (3DSWare became Nintendo eShop). another example was when they switched the W from Wii to a random letter from the alphabet and then trademarked every possible combination.

Nintendo trademarks everything. On a list of about 100 trademarks, only one or two end up being used for something real. Don't quote me on that though.

The tablet-half of the system (the one they showed at E3) was meant specifically for the 'hardcore' gamers.

actually i think the "it has all the buttons a standard controller has plus a freaking touch screen and a microphone" is the hardcore part.

Trade marking means nothing. Sony and Nintendo have trademarked so much ridiculous crap this generation it would boggle your mind.

not really. it's not an iPod-level touchscreen and there's no graphic processing on the controller's part. and if there really isn't an option for more than one controller... then well...

Even if those are just trademarks and not going to be actual games, it is still a bad look for nintendo that those got out to the public. Just seeing those makes me want to throw my wii off my balcony.

LOL what kind of comeback is that? I think ill stick to playing proper games on my PS3 and 360 instead of playing the same ports with minimal upgrades on a stupid controller on the WiiU with access to 1st party crap like Wii U Play. No thanks Nintendo, you do not fool me with your 'hardcore' speach.

How delusional. The point is, despite this list of trademarks being entirely casual, it has more value to it than the 360's lineup. You are the one fooling yourself if you keep yourself from enjoying Nintendo's games.

The "hardcore" part of Wii U:

1) "Traditional" dual analog controller

2) 3rd party multiplats

Nintendo will never internally cater to that crowd though so don't expect a big push. Maybe F-Zero from Retro or something.

So you're going to compare a list of trademarks of games that may or may not be made in god knows what timeframe, to a list of games that is actually being worked on and will be in our hands within a year? Okayyyy, sound logic.

And Im not going to be fooled into buying another console from Nintendo just to play one of their great games they release every 2 years.

Problem is, those 3rd party multiplats will be 3rd party "last gen" games as they will mostly be PS3/360 ports. And when the next xbox and playstation release the WiiU will dry up once again. But its okay, the nintendo loyalist seems to be fine with a console that has silly controllers, gets no games and has a sub par online service.

This isn't a launch line-up, it's a list of trademarks. Notice several of the names are just variations on others? It's just Nintendo ensuring they own the names.

so let me get this straight....a system that hasn't been released and has, at the present, ZERO games, has a better lineup than the xbox 360? the 360's library is nothing short of spectactular, sorry so many of you can't accept that and just have to hate.

you people really out do yourselves on here. that's the most ridiculous thing i've read on these forums, and that's saying something.

So let me get this straight....... a system which has had no official specifications confirmed other than developers such as those of darksiders 2 stating that it is extremely easy to port over recent 360 games using what is not even the final development kit and saying that it is the bare minimum off what the Wii-U can do and that they are going to look at what can be added from the pc version, and a system which has a unique controller that has possibilities to add to gameplay that many sources at E3 confirmed was very easy and comfortable to use when it may infact look like it shouldn't is clearly destined to 'fail'? And registering sites to prevent them falling into wrong owners (ie. modern warfare 3) is now wrong where as it was a so called 'fail' when activision didn't. It's quite clear PS3/360 fanboys are scarred of not only Nintendo having a console which will have a fantastic 1st party line up, but also alongside that what is currently looking like a well supported 3rd party

Yes I expect Nintendo to release games like Wii U Sports or Wii Sports U. But with the same games from Wii sports and/or wii Sports resort redone in HD. Gone will be the Mii characters with no arms/legs from the originals. To more realistic representations for Wii U sports.

That isa given. (As well as Nintendo re-doing Wii U fit etc) I fully expect Nintendo Wii U to do well for the first 2 years then revert to experiencing the drought of third party releases that Nintendo 64, Gamecube and Wii had post 2 years launch.

Hmm, you said you were going to set things straight but you didnt.

I wish you people would stop using specs and what you DONT know about them to back up the WiiU. How about we look at what we DO know, such as the completely lackluster tech demo from Nintendo themselves (You know, the company responsible for the console who would know best about its capabilities)

Secondly, where did I say registering trademarks is wrong? Oh thats right, I didn't.

If you're going to get excited about a console that will play the same games the 360/PS3 plays but on a gimmicky controller with a no doubt sub-par online, then the jokes on you. Im not scared of anything, the WiiU will turn into another Wii and Nintendo will fail the core gamers once again. If you chose to ignore that, you have only yourselves to blame.

Well to start of I said 'let me get this straight' not that I was going to set anything straight so just re-read that again. I also wish people would stop ASSUMING that it is only going to receive ports of 360/PS3, when you too DON'T know about the specs, at least allow them to reveal a few more details, hell Nintendo were the first to admit that their E3 felt rushed in terms of a reveal. If we were to judge companies and future products purely based on the past, I doubt the 360 would have done that well considering how poor the original was. But maybe thats too much and Nintendo need hating on....... And sorry I interpreted your previous posts wrong, however you are acting as if these are confirmed titles or the only titles, or at least thats what I gathered. Plus your going to trust reports that the online will be poor or return to a PS2 style structure, but ignore the developers saying that the console specs are more than likely surpassing the 360/PS3? And you have barely seen what the controller is capable off but it's already 'gimmicky'? You, just like me, know very little of what this console can do, but I just find the hating wrong seeing as we both know so little. I don't want to come across as a 'blind fanboy' but I am willing to see how it goes and from what actual developers, or people who would know a little more than us ,have said, it currently sounds promising. I'm not claiming a day-one purchase or anything just willing to be open to seeing more, where as you, at least in my view, seem to be hating for no real reason and calling those who are even interested 'fanboys. But look, if you really think it will fail I guess thats your opinion and I have mine, just thought I would say some stuff. On a side note I thought the tech-demos I seen (the bird and zelda) looked great, at least to my eyes.

Like I didn't have enough reasons to not buy a 'Wii U' already.
