Next Gen - The end of Xbox hardware, PS5 reinventing the way we play games, Nintendo going mobile

Let me start of by saying I see the Xbox one X as godsend. A necessary iterational jump, that fullfills a console gamer's dream in graphics fidelity. The rest of this topic is speculation but which I believe to be very likely to come true and so should you.

Cross platform ps5/pc games should be the most interesting tech wise, since a Ryzen CPU used within a console could lead to all sorts of interesting physics and AI within a game.

Unlike MS, Sony will want to make their PS5 into a generational leaping console. Now, looking at all company's their strategy as a long-time xbox and pc fan, the PS5 is a much more interesting console to me since I'll be getting an X1X. And so the ps5 should be for all lemmings.

Because X1X will be supported for some time to come as MS next console will likely belong to the Xbox One family as well. This could mean X1X will turn into a 1080P 30fps console and Xbox One into a 720p 30fps console for next generation games. Developers can do what they want with each version of the game but the downside being that the skeleton of the game has to be playable on xbox one's hardware.

MS is hinting at becoming software based with Xbox eventually. Expect the X1X's successor to be the last hardware based Xbox.

Nintendo is going full mobile already. So it's in a different market hemisphere.

Microsoft won the software market, Sony the hardware market & Nintendo won the mobile market.

So that means the next generation we all win with each company finally in their destined place. Get your Xbox one X now alongside a switch and a second hand ps4 barebone. Safe up for a pc and ps5 for the future of gaming while paying for xbox live across all platforms. GG. Everyone wins.

PS5 will be the only console and have all the games because Microsoft will stop making consoles and Nintendo will go 3rd party.

@jahnee: The main reason for Xbox's existence is MS's disagreements with fleet PC OEM's CPU:GPU cost allocation ratios which forced MS to roll their own DirectX box.

Intel/AMD's new SOC (system on a chip) with 24 CU at 1190Mhz (3.66 TFLOPS FP32) and 205 GB/s VRAM indicates Intel is being serious for AAA Windows gaming and general 3D performance for fleet PCs.

The more realistic scenario I think is MS watching the PS5 like a hawk and strategizing against it for about a year. MS won't compete right out the gate next gen.

Both Sony and MS will be going full streaming service, eventually. I suspect that the next true generation (if there is one in the traditional sense) will launch without optical drives and all games will be digital only. That may not happen with the PS5 but when it does happen, the 'consoles' that follow on will be streaming only boxes.

i dont think sony will really reinvent anything. they are not really a thinking outside the box company. the do the standard issue console model and do it very well....except for that one time :P. they will look to keep parity in terms of services as much as possible. the controller will be the standard issue controller and so on. they may decide to bite the bullet and go all digital (really depends on when they intend to launch the PS5) but thats as about as exciting as it gets. itll get some great exclusives from sony and have the full set of 3rd party support and that, for many, is just mighty.

MS are very much a services company and i think xbox is going to be more about delivering the services. they have pretty much said that they consider xbox to be a platform rather than a console. hell i wouldnt be surprised to see something like xbox on playstation (if sony allow it), xbox on linux and mac and even xbox live access to mobile and nintendo devices (streaming games). buy once: play anywhere. i dont think they want to really make games anymore. they just want to make the backend and tools and services needed to deliver those games. there may still be an xbox console but its just going to be a box to access the xbox platform. i think thats how MS see things going.

as for nintendo: no idea. the switch looks like its going to be a success. but then the wii was a massive succes and they didnt do the logical thing and make the wii 2. their choice in hardware for the switch basically allows them to do anything and their OS seems to have the nuts and bolts in place at least to be quite adaptable. they could make anything from a GBA2 micro to an uber mega ultra killerbox to a VR headset with everything needed to run the games in the headset. past success does not predict future with nintendo. i dont think they will be pulling out of the hardware gave anytime soon though. and sure they will continue to make the odd game here and there too :P.

Sony said that they're not interested in making a hybrid system. They're not interested in the handheld market. Sony said that the handheld market is dead.

When PS5 comes out, it will have a hard time catching up to the Switch because Nintendo will be entering Gen 10! AWWWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEAH!
