What's up system wars. Just curious as to everyone's gaming history and why they ended up with the system they own now. Here's mine

-Atari 2600 (yeah I've been gaming for awhile)

-NES (super Mario was my game) many others including double dragon, contra and so on)

- sega genisis (switched when Nintendo didn't have mortal kombat fatalities and that was a deal breaker. Never went back to Nintendo after that)

-playstation (resident evil was my memory of that system)

-Dreamcast (loved the idea of the VMU.. Picking my footballs plays on there without my opponent knowing what I was picking was great. Also the online feature was great)

-Xbox ( the idea of the hard drive and not needing a memory card again was the selling point)

-360

-and Xbox one (having the game system integrated into my enterntainment setup is a big deal for me.. Also not a fan of the playstation controller).

So there's my years of gaming. Hopefully there's many more years of gaming to come.

Started with PC...back in early 2000's.
First game I played was a helicopter game called Commanche 4 ( I think it was called). I played it with a joystick....it was sick! After that I was hooked to gaming...

Later went through PS2,PSP,NintendoDS's,Xbox360 and now with both PS4 and Xbox One.

Started off on PC, then I noticed it doesn't get any 10/10 exclusives nor a recent GOTY exclusive, so I switched to consoles, where the best of the best gaming can be found.

Started video gaming in 1975 (maybe 76 my memory is a bit faded now), I was 5

Years of handhelds things

ZX81, Spectrum, Commadore 64, Amiga, and first self built PC in 1990, had PC's since then.

Consoles come and go, I've owned a few (one or two every gen), can't say I've loved any of them.

He actually only owns a Wii U and one of those weird Ouya consoles that are used as doorstops.

Started gaming on a NES when the SNES was out , then moved to PS1 , then PS2 and PC , then 360 and PS3 , and now...still in the 360/PS3 timeleap.

Backlog and nothing that intrests me is keeping me from jumping on the new gen.

Been a PC gamer for as long as I can remember and thats the only platform I still game on now. Iv also been lucky enough to have most of the mainstream consoles growing up, though I never owned a PS2.

Atari 2600

Amstrad CPC 464 664 64k Microcomputer

Master System 2

Amiga 2000/Megadrive/Snes

PSX/N64/Saturn/Atari Jaguar

Dreamcast/XBOX

360/PS3/Wii

I highlighted the ones I preferred in each gen that I had multiple systems. I didnt list handhelds (havent owned one since the GBA anyway), I bought a WiiU for the Mrs and my Daughter, hardly played it myself. Also Bayonetta 2 was way, WAY way overrated IMO.

I played on a few systems before I had my own including a Commodore PET at school and the Atari 2600 - it all went a bit mad after that. As for the why, it's mainly because I wanted the latest thing ... fickle me. Systems I've owned:

Sinclair ZX81

Sinclair Spectrum

Commodore VIC 20

Commodore 64

Commodore 128

Commodore Amiga

Sega Megadrive

Sega Gamegear

NeoGeo pocket

BBC Micro model B

Super Nintendo

Nintendo 64

Panasonic 3DO

Sony PS1

Sony PS2

Sony PS3

Sony PS4

XBOX 360

I may well have missed something out ...

I've also built quite a few PCs over the years and it's my preferred platform now.

Edit: Also a Wii and a Dreamcast (how could I forget that?)

Started out with a PC,but I can't retell what its components are,as I was a kid back then...the game that I played for the first time was a Counter-Strike(again,I don't know what version was it) getting sick of abusing a PC just for gaming,so I let my brother use it til it die a grand motherboard.

My gaming history ain't thick as much as I like to express it, all I have back then were PS1,PS2,GBA sp,and the Wii(why I list it as back then...because it's dead and it needs a new replacement) now currently owning a PS3(got to upgrade it into a PS4 in the near future) a 3DS XL(currently on hold for NNID funding source and games)...never wanted or needed to own an xbox or its successors any time as I like, because I hate them for every living and dead reasons.

@pelvist: oh yeah. I also had the Atari jaguar after the dreamcast (then I went to Xbox) . Can't believe I forgot that system. Tempest 2000 was probably the only good game on that. Had an amazing sound track mixed in with the sound FX and colors. Just shows you don't need great graphics to have a great time.

Started gaming on Atari 2600 then owned almost every major Nintendo Console in 90s as well as the ones from SEGA. Got a PC after mid 90s. It wasn't high end but used to play a lot of classics on acceptable frame rates but some games weren't able to run because it wasn't gaming PC.

Got first proper Gaming PC in 2001 for Max Payne and ever since I always owned PC along with my Consoles. I had PS1 and PS2 since launch. Got PS3 and Xbox 360 towards the end of last gen for few handful of exclusives but lost interest in Console gaming and switched primarily to PC gaming in 2008. Ever since, I'm a PC gamer. Right now, I only own PC.

Master System > Dreamcast > PS2 > PS3 + PSP + Wii (for less than a year) > Vita + 3DS + PS4 + PC (sort of, not really a strong hardware machine).

Started with the original Game Boy then turned into a huge Sega fanboy with the Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast.

When they left the market, I switched to PC gaming and Sony consoles. Still mostly dedicated to those.

Doesn't matter what everyone's history here is. 99% of everyone here is an idiot fanboy who tries to shit all over competing consoles whent hey dont' knoww hat the **** they are talking about. And then they say its okay because "thats how it is supposed to be" and then they mutter somethingsomething metagame somethingsomething. So who cares with these assholes. Mention your favorite game or system and all they will do is tell you how much of an *insert animal name here* you are.

- Super Nintendo (SNES) (1st console)

- Game Boy Pocket (some of my friends got the original fat one, this would have been early elementary school in the late 90s for me)

- Game Boy Color

- N64

- Ps1

- Gamecube

- Ps2

- X Box (original)

- X-Box 360 Arcade model (didn't get one until Dec 2008) (Got hard drive in 2009)

- Ps3 (Dec 2010)

- Ps4 (Oct 2014)

- WiiU (Got it this Feb 2015)

Any PCs I've had have been quite weak machines not suited to gaming. Hell I didn't even think gaming pc existed until I start watching youtube in earnest, so that would be 2010 for me)

@nozakuboy09: yeah I've never been a fan of gaming on a keyboard and mouse. Plus I've always worked with computers so when i get home a PC is the last thing I want to be on. Now you can use a controller and all but I only have a bootleg laptop that I don't even use anymore sinve I can do everything off of my phone.

@pelvist: I stand corrected. I forgot about that game also. Damn memory sucks. That game was GREAT.. I jumped many times as I turned around and seen a damn alien right in my face. Reminds me of the aliens game I'm playing on the Xbox one. Good memory

This is how some people get to be hard edged and tough. Face to face they're babies.

Started on Pong console

never had the money for another, just played at friends and my Mattel electronics sports handhelds

Got Donkey Kong handheld in 1983. Got a Commodore 64

Sega master in 1986 I believe

Genesis was after

Saturn then switched to PS. Played some PC games through mid to late 90s

PS2 then added Xbox

360, PS3, Wii

PC, X1, PS4 now

I started on the NES around the age of 3. Skipped the SNES and Genesis though I played it often at friends' houses. Got the Playstation at some point after its release. I still wasn't big into gaming at this time, and even though I owned the PS1 I put plenty more hours into my friends' N64s. Between Mario Kart 64, Smash Bros, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Party 2, and other games, I spent a ton of time with it when I didn't even own one.

After that, I believe it was around 2004, I got a PS2 and joined Gamespot in December. This is when I started following gaming as a major hobby. I started playing a ton more games on the PS2 during this time. Then I got the Xbox for Halo and Fable, and then some more games. And finally I picked up a used Gamecube and fell in love with the system. This was the first time I had all the consoles and it was wonderful. The DS and PSP, picked up both of them and these were my entries into handheld gaming despite always wanting to take part in it.

Picked up the PS3 shortly after launch. Bought my friend's 360 off him after he didn't want it anymore. Then I got a Wii for my birthday. This was the generation that I was the most hardcore about, playing as much as I could. And now this gen I got the 3DS shortly after release and picked up a used Vita much later. Picked up a Wii U a month or two after it launched. Purchased the PS4 at launch. And got an Xbox One as a birthday gift.

I'm really enjoying this gen so far. Still working through a sizable backlog of games that I own and there are still plenty that I want to purchase. It comes down to me being a filthy casual. ^_^

I did nothing but Nintendo for my whole life, except Genesis which I got a while ago to play a few games on, and PS2 which I got 2 years ago to play Final Fantasy X and Battlefront 2.

I had NES, SNES, N64, Cube, Wii, and WiiU, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced SP, DS, and 3DS.

I had enough though, so many great games, just was done with so many of them, and I hated the WiiU, not enough original content on it to make it worth my primary gaming machine.

So I gave the WiiU to the bro in law/nephew and niece, sold everything else except the Cube and 3DS, got a good chunk of change. Got and Xbone for an unbelievable deal, and that's what I game on now. I'm not planning on buying another console or handheld until I have kids someday.

I think I've owned just about everything but a dreamcast and a sega saturn. Started with genesis, then switched to Snes when I was invited to a friends house and saw how amazing starfox was. Although I really stayed with genesis as well thanks to Sega Channel, that was such an awesome peripheral.

PC, my first foray into MP gaming, halflife, team fortress, sven coop, tribes 1 and 2, quake 3 arena,

PS1, N64. I liked both but ps1 will always hold a special place in my heart, such an underrated library.

Ps2, Xbox. Sony just whooped ass again, had a friend with an xbox but all we really did was play Halo.

So far I haven't purchased any next gen systems, It's been pretty purely PC.

@Zassimick: nice. I'm also enjoying this generation as well. I hear/read an lot of people on here crying about how much this gen sucks. Only complaint I have is that I'm not a fan of all the remasters but the other games are great. I'm not one who plays games I played years ago just like I barely watch the same movie twice.

@guard12: that's how I feel about owning the Atari jaguar.
