ok, this is my theory... Sony knows that the PS3 was going to fail (in the gaming department) and in first place because of the cost of the blu-ray player, but by selling the console cheaper then a blu-ray player, many people will buy it instead of a traditional player, thus increasing sales of blu-ray movies! IM A GENIUS

*announcer speaks* In a world where PS3's don't play games, one person figures out the plot! NEXT, ON THE TWILIGHT ZONE

*cue music* DODODODO,DODODODO,DODODODO!

acrtually you are correct , once blue ray is officalliy considered the winner , Sony can then afford to drop the price of the ps3 by $250

The PS3 was always going to be a cheap Blu-Ray player first, and a gaming machine second. Which is why the gaming part wasn't thought out nearly as well as it should've been.
