Most Overrated Console

I don't think you understand the meaning of the word overrated.

Out of those I played, the Wii, definitely

The novelty wear of far too quickly and the few criticaly praised games I played, namely Super Mario Galaxy, were severely overrated imo

Its 100 million sales were undeserved imo

Most overrated is probably PS2 IMO. It has a couple good exclusives and some fun third party games but it's my least favorite of the numbered Playstation systems.

@Telekill: Wow that's interesting how subjective it all is. For me PS2>PS1>PS3>PS4.

I can't imaging buying any of the consoles at the start of this gen.

Oh wait I did buy a PS4 shortly after launch. It stayed in the box for about 4 months until Bloodborne came out.

I don't really know of any consoles that are overrated. They all end up having decent libraries in the end. Maybe the PS2 since most of it's sales were probably due to it being the cheapest option for a DVD player for a while. Same with PS3 and Blu Ray. I really liked my PS2 and PS3 though.

Then I built my first real badass PC in 2007 and ever since it seems like all consoles are overrated.

PS4

Wii the performance of that console was subpar before it hit the market and always felt outdated to me.

Wii and PS2 will take the mantle for me. While the PS3 fat received a lot of flak, it offered everything the PS2 offered and more. Wii was just a garbage system that was sold to non gamers.

The N64 definitely. Other than nintendo first party and games made by Rare, I dont remember anything about the console that stands out. Overrated junk

@Telekill: I'd have to agree with that. In the same light, I think people remember the GameCube a bit too fondly, as well. I am saying this as someone who still has a GameCube and breaks it out three or four times a year.

Why is Xbox one on the list don't think anybody hyped it that much to be honest.

I don't think a LOT of you know what interested overrated means. The N64 brought us some timeless classics, Zelda OoT, Smash Brothers, etc. Even if just Zelda was the only game to come out for it the system would still not be overrated.

And the ps2, wtf?!? It had an incredible library of games with tons of classics.

Go read a dictionary, learn what overrated means and then come back.

@mandzilla: Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I loved games like ICO and God of War but it was the Prince of Persia trilogy, RE Outbreak and other third parties that really stole the show for me on PS2.

Got to say the PS4. I know it;s setting records and people are buying it like crazy but, they have not innovated a damn thing. If anything they copied the 360 model!

PS4 is champ this gen just based on accidents. They have added nothing new or pro consumer what so ever.

Xbox One is the most overrated console and everyone here in SW loves talking about it. Why does SW Cows love the Xbox One I'll never know.

@Telekill: Yep, the third-party lineup for the PS2 was crazy. It pretty much had everything due to the it being the leading console. Things may have looked better on the Xbox, Gamecube or Dreamcast, but there was always a certain game one got that the other didn't (e.g. Freedom Fighters, Mercenaries, Time Splitters 2, GTA: San Andreas, Burnout 3, Brothers in Arms, Resident Evil 4), but they were always available on PS2.

The exclusives were outstanding also, and it probably has the strongest and most varied collection of first-party titles of any Playstation so far imo.

Other option seems pointless here...

For me it's far and away the SNES.

The limp cpu and crowd pleasing effects were just a smokescreen for a system that needed a more well integrated chipset and such it was hailed as the greatest 16 bit console but underperforms compared to the Genesis and Turbo Graphx on fast paced arcade games with lots of action. And the sound is just horrible.

The N64 was horrible though. No games. 3d was way out of date when it came out. Bad hardware for 3d games at least. Silicon Graphics never made efficient processors.

Yeah, agreed. I much preferred Gamecube & Xbox that gen... I just never clicked with PS2 & never understood it's huge popularity.

And probably PS4 & Wii too.

3DO. I remember the price of one at US$700 ($1221 in 2019). I thought the 3DO was good. But, not $1221 good.

To me, probably the Dreamcast. It is constantly put on some golden pedestal but I never found it to be that special.

PS2 IMO. Decent games but it just wasn't all that great to me. Having to constantly buy another PS2 because of DRE (Disk Read Error) problems didn't help either. Must've went through 4 PS2's because of their poor build qualities. PS1 is also closely behind. Despite owning a decent amount of games for it, doesn't do any good if they're constantly freezing, have ridiculous loading, or simply unplayable despite the disc being scratchless...

Those gen's, I had more fun with my Gamecube/N64 than any other console...

PS2 easily. I quit like PS1 it has MGS1 which was great but PS2 literally doesnot have any worthy game and most of exclusive are far behind PC games of that era. i mean generation behind.

For something to be overrated, the average person must rate a thing much higher than you do. The general people here think the xOne is the weakest system this gen. So how is it overrated?

GameCube is overrated with its' mediocre sales and gamers ignoring its' greatest games? You should probably look up the meaning of the word.

I'd say PS2. Everyone gives it an incredible amount of praise, and to me it was just the weakest system with few interesting games and a shitload of terrible games with a terrible controller to boot. It was the console for casuals, widely used as a DVD player and for movie tie in games.

exactly. i was kid, my cousin bought a PS2 and I bought a new PC. i was originally going to buy PS2 but i decide to go with upgrading my PC. i was glad that i didnot wasted my money. nothing on PS2 was good.

Of recent memory? Probably PS4.

It's nothing without its exclusives, and it only get's about three memorable ones per year. I've never heard the phrase "it's gathering dust" used more often than in reference to PS4.

Xbox one has been shat on since launch so I don't know how it could be considered overrated.

The n64 was not a very good console to me... It had some wonderful games but God, which of them hasn't aged horribly in their native settings? Bleh.

PS4 and Swich are both quite overrated imo.

Switch has the usual big Nintendo games (one of which is on Wii U) and a couple other decent games and tons of overpriced and often times inferior ports.

PS4 - not one of its exclusives is particularly special. The multiplats that get tons of praise are also generally overrated. Is it better then the competition? Probably, but that's not saying much.

Dreamcast

The PS4 is the most overrated console. Cows like to talk about how they have the games, but look at how many exclusives the PS3 had at its 5 year mark and compare it to the PS4. It's pretty embarrassing. For a company and a fanbase that harps on games, the output has dropped off dramatically.

I'm right there with you. I was very anti PS2 because of what it did to my Dreamcast, yet I can admit its greatness. The PS1 was a very close second, and the rest is kinda garbage imo. The PS3 at least had a steady output of exclusives. The PS4 is still waiting on its second Naughty Dog title. The 4th Naughty Dog title was announced at this point of the PS3's life-cycle. It's like the Sony studios that released 2-4 games last gen are only expected to launch 1 this gen. How is that acceptable?

Every game was basically a collection of waggle mini-games. I've never hated playing a Zelda game in my life as Skyward Sword.

The only game I really enjoyed on it was Super Mario Galaxy.

@goldenelementxl: The PS2's library is quite forgettable. I really only still have mine because it plays Guitar Hero (although I've recently had a good time replaying the original Ratchet and Clank). How many of its greats come up in "best of all time" lists? How many does anyone want to play any more? The most worthwhile ones, IMO (e.g., Ico and Shadow of the Colossus) can now be played in far better form.

It's a tired old muddy system. I'd (and do) much rather fire up my Dreamcast.

For me, I'd go PS4>PS2>PS1>PS3. PS1 loses points because so many of its games outside of top-down JRPGs aged SO poorly (not really its fault)

Definitely the POSStation 4. I think we can all agree the Vita is much better.
