If you have a High Resolution LCD this game it will still to this day hurt your computer if you try to crank everything up.

Released in 2007, this is theCrysis of RTS's or shall I say RTT. GS gave it 9.5 but everyone always talks about Crysis.

Carpet bombs, nukes, daisy cutters, heavy artillery, napalm...everything you can think of making maps unrecognizable at the end of an online bout.

Anyone wanna dispute this?

I fully agree with you on this one, but you cannot play down the physics and destruction engine that Crysis has. Both are excellent games in this regard.

Never played any of those PC games but Red Faction:Guerilla does have incredible physics and the destruction engine is spot on 9/10

It does make everything seem very flimsy and fragile which kind of ruined it.

Plus the game was built around this Geo Mod 2.0 or whatever when it should have just been a big feature in it.

I came into this thread with world in conflict in mind you didn't disappoint me TC good job.

Fallout 3 FATBOY! is one of the best explosions in a video game.... also, Just Cause2 has some nice explosions.

Rampage. I'm feeling nostalgic.

Mercs 2 - The game isn't that great but has some good explosions like the Nuke

RFG - The explosions are smaller and look nice but do awesome damage against buildings

Arma 2 - Because the explosions are realistic(the effect could look better)

Just Cause 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla do not approve of this thread.

Red faction's graphics look pitiful. Just cause 2 is a contender, but I feel WiC has more dynamic explosions and weaponary and greater scope where an entire level is flattened by the end of a match. Mind you we're comparing an FPS to an RTS type game.1q3er5

as far as I'm concerned WiC is king the explosions are awesome quality and the sheer quantity is unrivaled so many of them going off in a short period of time. Other games may be able pull off one decent nuke but in world in conflict you can do 3 at once!

Yeah I've always prefered the destruction in WiC, it's awesome!

I think Red Faction: Geurilla still has the most impressive physics/destruction engine to date. Play the game and you'll see what I mean. :P

World in Conflict is great, but Battlefield BC2 and Red Faction Guerrilla do destruction like none before.

It's all about Scorched Earth. 8)

Agree with WIC.

On that note, every game with nukes does the over-pressure front, but what about the under-pressure phase? When that big, super-heated volume of air starts rising (the 'cap' part of the mushroom) air must rush in underneath it to fill the resulting vaccum (this is where the 'stem' of the mushroom comes from).

The under-pressure front will suck anything not tied down into the heated heart of that cloud, and no game does it.

Just Cause 2 seemed good to me - it combined physics and explosions pretty well, also KZ2 - the bigger explosions (probably scripted). And of course, back in the day, when I saw what a grenade does in HL2, my jaw dropped ...

the nuke in starcraft2 and the explosion when zerg buildings burst into bloody piles of goo are awe inspiring.

red faction guerilla has the best, except the small lag it gets when something gigantic falls
