Mistwalker's new game... It's an Xbone exclusive....

So, Phil Spencer pretty much confirmed on twitter that on "Tuesday" M$ will show an exclusive JRPG being made by Mistwalker for the Xbone.

Sakaguchi really doesn't learn but, what's his beef with Sony anyway? He rather prefer his company goes bankruptcy than releasing a game where it would be successful and that's as far as you can get from good business. I mean, the reason Mistwalker has only been working on mobile games lately and hasn't even released a single game in 2 years was because all their games flopped on the X360 and Wii!

"Spencer was also asked to comment: "Is the amount of 900p games due to lack of time to optimize to 1080?"

To this he replied: "NO, I think you'll find over this generation games will use a variety of rez and framerates."

Leaving aside few handful of games on PS4 almost every title runs at 1080p/60 FPS resolution, so it seems like games only on Xbox One will have variety of resolution and frame-rate."

Sony could have funded this project themselves, and obviously chose to not pursue it.

Where are you getting this from besides your imagination. Mistwalker is a design and art studio, they get external sources to do their programming. If they haven't released a new game in 3 years (which is normal turn around time for a developer) its either because they haven't wanted to, they have been working on something and its not done or no one is looking to publish what they are currently producing. Considering they are revealing a game on Tuesday, its most likely that they just aren't finished their title yet.

I also don't really see why you think his beef with Sony has anything to do with MS basically funding their game. Those are 2 separate issues.

Sakaguchi was behind some of my all time favorite games, but I never really got into the Mistwalker games too much. Blue Dragon sucked, Lost Odyssey became a chore to play and The Last Story seemed to be a bit better than those, but still didn't hold my interest for long.

It may sound fucked up, but here's to hoping that this new game is equally unimpressive. So far I see no reason to buy an Xbone and I'd hate for this game to force my hand.

@Gue1: The Last Story actually sold quite well for a game that was released at the end of the Wii's lifespan.

To be fair the PS2 was weak compared to the Cube and original XBOX and the PS3 got the majority of the bad exclusives. At least they finally have a reason to strut like a chicken in heat now finally having the more powerful hardware.

But honestly this hardware is closer than past generations. If it wasn't for Digital Foundry and gaming sites looking for a reason to blast Microsoft after the E3 shit I doubt anyone would make a fuss about resolutions.

It is what it is. But the fact remains Microsoft has Halo, Gears, Forza, Horizon, and Killer Instinct. They also have Remedy. That is enough for me to be happy with my XBONE.

I'd... honestly be surprised if this is true. Sakaguchi kinda seemed like he was done with Microsoft after they canceled his third game. Could this seriously be Lost Odyssey 2 or a revival of Cry-On? (his canceled game)

Mistwalker was set up with help and financial backing of MS.

Mistwalker games have all sold reasonable well better than nearly all none main stream PS3 JRPGs in fact.

He's obviously being paid big bucks by MS to get a JRPG on the Xbone. If it's Lost Odyssey 2 then good to see it actually lived to to make a sequel.. but only because of MS's infinite amounts of money. It just wont sell well on the xbone what ever it is. If he's doing it because he has something against Sony. Then he's a fool at best.

As long as it's more along the lines of The Last Story than Lost Odyssey/Blue Dragon, I'll keep tabs on it. But it's hard to be optimistic about any JRPG on the Xbox platform.

The Last Story is actually one of his most successful games. Just looking at their previous releases, Mistwalker's audience is on Nintendo platforms these days. The titles he actually directed were also on Nintendo platforms. The Playstation days were when he was playing producer and scenario, but not "his" games. Those were from other directors.

I believe MS paid them to produce Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. And Nintendo paid for Last Story. I'm sure Sony would pay for something if they felt it was worth it, but maybe they don't see it as a worthy investment, neither would I for that matter, and why should they when there's plenty of Japanese developers willing to make Sony exclusives for free, and good ones at that.

And even if he does, don't you think he'd say it and possibly have a good reason? If I recall, Shinji Mikami was so pissed off with Sony a couple gens ago, he did his damndest to keep Resident Evil away from the PS2 (which didn't work).

Mistwalker wouldn't even exist if M.S. didn't fund Sakaguchi's start up studio in order to create Japanese exclusives for the Xbox. Now the Cows want to cry about not getting these games. How about you buy the console these games are released on instead of begging for ports.

In terms of architecture, yeah. In terms of power ... absolutely not.

Sakaguchi must feel so pathetic right now. Once known as a legendary game developer of FF and now stuck in Microsoft's greedy grasps and can't get out of it all the while creating JRPGs that have next to no hope of selling well. He's better off just retiring at this rate.

Hopefully the actual development of the game isn't farmed out to a third rate dev like LO was. That game was alright, but it aged horribly. I also hope they work on better character designs. Kaim's design could certainly use some tweaking, Sid's neck needs to be trimmed down from its giraffe like length, and Jansen… just… wow, desperately in need of a total makeover.
