@Ant_17: they dont need to, MS knows that PC will always be ahead anyway in hardware and have embraced that. Even with gamepass available on my PC and comming to handhelds via streaming, thier hardware is still more impressive than Sony's.
Sony better hope thier console dominates, because thats thier only avenue for making any revenue.
@Pedro: i think it really depends on how well done the streaming is, if its solid with most high-speed internet its going to boost gamepass numbers big time. Everyone just got multiple handheld xbox systems, you just need to get a gamepass sub. Which is already a killer deal for how many games you get access too.
The people that like to game but dont like investing in a bunch of hardware, the casuals who just play mobile phone games might even turn into real gamers because of this service. I'm (i hate this term) but a more hardcore gamer and im stoked about it even.
MS is planting the seeds for a giant bean stalk here. This is one of the smartest moves ive seen out of anyone in the industry.
Compare it to stadia, everything stadia did wrong, MS is doing right. No hardware required, gamepass gives you access to a large catalogue, pc, phone, and tablet support. The only thing you need is to sub to gamepass. Hell you can even use a DS4 with it lmao

Why is everyone talking about streaming on your phone. If it can stream on an Android phone it will stream to an Android TV, most probably including Chromecast.
With more of us having a fibre connection and 5G being implemented, the console itself is increasingly obsolete.
Of course if you have a slow connection and or if your data is capped, you won’t reap the benefits. But if you live in the Asia Pacific region, the chances are you‘ll have 5G and Fibre and this makes services such as Xcloud and Stadia very promising.
Not on iOS. That's quite a huge market they are missing out on. I believe that's more to do with Apple's anti-competitive practices than MS's wants. Pretty sure Apple initially didn't allow Steam Link and to this day you can't purchase games on Steam iOS app.
Maybe Apple wanted a cut on the game sales and valve said no, everyone else gives apple a cut on sales for things.
Not everyone and that's why you can't buy books on Kindle store and if I remember correctly yuo can't subscribe to Netflix in-app.

And it is more about saving money on hardware and living room space. With people being increasingly busy, the Quality of life of being able to play on the go is extremely handy, do NOT underestimate the value this brings.

Performance wise even, the switch version has some noticible framerate issues.

And that's just with the current Xbox One blades they're using now.. once they upgrade to Xbox Series blades, things are only going to improve..
@jeezers: Wreckfest looks great, I was in beta using Galaxy S6 and was crisp/clear. I'm sure experience will be even better with current tech as mobile phones/tablets offer bigger screens. But overall it works great on my old phone and was able to play online and co-op .
I know ms want to transition everything to a service where you pay for everything monthly, but do people actually want this?
I mean sure it's slightly better option that the MS store because at least you won't 'own' the games when they shut the service down like they did with games for windows live.

thing is do we want these types of games? service games that come out and just update them for ten years like halo? instead of making sequels. mobile gaming type games. most xbox first party will make fable and just add more content over more content instead of making a new one. why next forza is not forza 7 or 8 or 9. fable is not fable 4, halo not halo 6 etc. there going to come out in beta form not a finished project like sea of thiefs type updates.
