[QUOTE="Plagueless"]As I've said before, until PS3 has: 1. Party chat so I can talk to friends without playing the same game 2. A multiplayer shooter anywhere near as good as Halo or Gears of War I will gladly pay for Live. Ads or no ads, I don't care.

PS Vita doesn't require payment to play with online and features party chat and Skype. The games (Halo /Gears) aren't paid by XBL fees, but because costumers pay for the games. So your arguments really doesn't make a lot of sense.

TV sucks

Many people use Netflix to watch everything including me.

I only use TV when I sleep, for noise.

My first impression after seeing the new 360 UI was "omg this sucks."

My second impression was "wtf. I'm paying to use this."

I hate 360 UI.

Like everything else about the system.

Lems definitely are getting shafted.

This is crap. Paid services shouldnt have ads. Microsoft is already make money. If xbl is made free I don't mind the ads. But its not. Gaming industry is getting really out if hand. You got capcom making you pay to unlock stuff that is already on a disk that you purchased. Like the 40 bucks wasn't enough Lets drain more money out of you. Now ads for something that we are paying for.

they are a business, XBOX has MILLIONS of users, advertisers want to pay MS for exposure, MS would be stupid to say "NO xbox live is a no ad zone" IMO, there are very few ads, nearly all are related to xbox and all are completely avoidable. (maybe different on US consoles) you cannot go anywhere without seeing an advert these days. even the BBC, which doesn't have any commercial ads at all, advertises its own programs in between shows. (and yes we pay for the BBC before you query that)

We are all familiar with the tenets of business.

However when it is a product used in such an intimate way to bring entertainment to a household, people don't want capitalism in their living room.

Capitalism has a place from 9 to 5.

When ppl come home to fantasize and dream and play, they leave capitalism at the door and want family communism.

360 UI and XBL fees make me feel like the console isn't mine.

And it dilutes the entertainment that I receive from it because it drags commerce into the off-hours.

[QUOTE="razgriz_101"]

people pay for cable and dont moan bout ads.

XBL is ran as a for profit system, sure MS is gonna expose it as much as possible, outside this board i bet around 90% of gamers dont care.

APiranhaAteMyVa

I don't understand why people haven't made a major fuss about ads (for TV). Especially premium channels like Sky Movies/Sports, surely the fee you are paying for them specific channels should cover the cost (like the BBC does). Watching NFL and having adverts every 4 minutes rather than some decent commentary or extras to fill the time is ridiculous. People complained about the massive logos on channels taking up half the screen, so most channels have removed them or toned them down now, if enough complained I'm sure they would remove ads too, or at least move them to less obtrusive moments like they do with football have them at half time, then not again until after the match. I can imagine them trying to stick in some ads when the ball goes out of play or when a free kick happens, or do what ITV do and accidentally stick an ad on during the game when they are about to score... I hate how most American shows are like just over 30 minutes long but they stretch them out to 60 minutes with ads every 5 minutes, totally ruins the immersion.

If im watching NFL like last season Sky had Redzone so i never put up with ads, really :P altho you got to see coverage of all the games instead of one and the major plays.

But i still find it funny the cows who are the ones moaning probably dont think twice bout paying for cable.

SO MS has now stopped your game mid session to show you an advert?

"your game will resume in 5 minutes after some messages from our sponsors" hahaha.

when that happens you'll have a point. until then, IMO people are over-reacting big time (and just for the sake of bashing another console, nothing else)

No doubt, between the only handfull out of thousands of 360 games that have multi disks and XBL fees, people go batty and the funniest part, IMO, it's mostly the people complaining about it that don't own a 360.

Keep it up MS, drives your antifans crazy. :P

Never really pay that much attention to ads anyway. If there is something that interests me in the little block I click on it, if not I ignore it. It's pretty simple. Same goes for the ads on the PS3.

Yep you sure do get what you pay for right Lems?

Only thing you can do with a Gold subscription that you can't do with a Silver subscription is online play and Party Chat, oh and Netflix access as well as Facebook and Twitter. But you don't pay the fee for that stuff, you just pay it to play online, which is FREE everywhere else.

It's funny (and sad) that there are people that actually defend this crap, they are the reason why MS get's away with this and they are to blame when MS raises the price of XBL (which they will do again, mark my words, we all know it's going to happen again down the road).

XBL is nothing more than a rental service, you don't fully own your games, you just own a portion of them and MS owns the rest.

ShadowMoses900
What bothers me is that once I cancelled the Gold Service, all the XBLA games I bought, went back to being a demo. I don't know if this is just me or what, but it sucks. Basically paid for a bunch of games I can't play anymore because I got tired of paying for a service that is free everywhere else.

Not sure why people care, the ads are in places that you would expect to see them.. In market place.. They don't get in the way and actually can be quite helpful in showing new deals or releases.. I don't see how this would some how be a factor in whether you should get the service or not.. its not like their is a ad bar at the top or bottom when you play games.. Or that it forces you to look at a ad before you can play your game or navigate..

LOL Keep dreaming. XBL should've been free to begin with, it has nothing to do with ad's. The fact that they made ads ON TOP of the subscription fee is just pouring salt on the wound. Then ON TOP OF THAT they further INCREASE the subscription fee, and you still don't see something wrong with this. You're such a tool. Why stop here? They're just going to continue this trend more and more and use you and whore you out to as many corporations as possible, while continuing to increase the fee. Next year "XBL fee $70... and you have to watch a commercial before every time you start a game" rofl And you'll be singing the same tune "Oh I don't mind, I don't even notice it!"

I pretty much don't care about the ads when I play on my 360.It's not like they block your chances of playing a game or slow you down.

GameShtopper

What's next? Being alright with Capcom's business practices of late?

M$ could charge $30/month for live increase ads, put them in games and loading screens on Halo and the lemmings here would still defend it, would say it's a good deal and then praise ms for making more money, like they own stock or they are an employee or something. It's pathetic that ads are on a pay got service in the first place. O am sorry but I don't want mcdonalds ads clutterin up My console ui, its ugly, and makes the ui look trashy and cheap. But again lemmings will Never switch because they were duped with the online play and they will say their friends still have it. Meanwhile you can play for free on ps3 and no ads.

No it shouldn't have.. To this date its still the best multiplayer console service.. I would agree with you if it were not for the fact that the PS3 still has yet to have a party system, a cross game chat system, a far easier messaging and invite UI, a better mic system.. Or must I explain the absolutely retarded method that you need to use to invite people in games like Resident Evil 5?

Cows, can you answer something? Why do you care how much live costs? what lems pay for? how people find value in live/xbox? It seems like you guys are more worried about the 360 than anyone else. Why, if i own both AND a gaming PC, would i still pay for Live?navyguy21

I'm going to answer this since cows are going to lie to you and I have both XBL gold and PS+. Its simple, they're FANBOYS. They will support the PS3, have claimed they owned a gaming rig like all cows do, and will d*** ride Sony until the end. I feel like everyone here is a lemming because that is what fanboys here do, d*** ride the companies and say they would respect them even though they really don't until the company is doomed. The truth is no one corporation cares about you at all. They don't even give a f*** if you die. They just care for your money and that's it.

ok, we dont have that here in the UK. i start my console and there are no ads (not about gaming) in my face that are not avoidable, unless i click on one, i dont see it. are you saying that in the US, you switch on your xbox and before you start a game, an advert pops up and you have to watch it? what exactly happens?

It doesn't pop up.

It's in the bottom right of the screen, in the UI.

Usually either food, game or car ad.

Kia commercials. Pizza hut. KFC. McDonalds. WoW.

It's why I didn't subscribe for XBL anymore.

I'm ok with capitalism in the work place.

I'm not ok with capitalism in my bedroom.

Homes are intimate places that should be full of nice things, not f*cking corporate bullschit to make people obese.

Microsoft is just an oafish company that has no experience designing anything nice, that's why Apple is eating their lunch in the consumer space.

Bullsh*t. Want to know my answer? Personally I don't want to pay a subscription fee to play online. I haven't before and I don't want to start now. But the drones who go out and continue to pay for XBL and put up with the ads are going to be the reason why I'm going to have to pay a subscription fee and and have to put up with ads too sooner or later. That's how it works. If one business gets away with it, all of the other business are going to start thinking they can get away with it too. All because of the drones who supported it to begin with, everyone is going to have to suffer from it in the long run. You can deny it all you want, but it's bound to happen eventually.

The only time you EVER see an ad is when you start up your xbox and scroll over to the "Games" or "marketplace" tab, and it is a small inconspicuous add in the bottom right corner (the same size as an add on this website). YOU HAVE TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO SEE IT.

Do you see at the top of this page, the dropdown bar that says "favorites"? You see that empty space above it? The ad is about the same size as that space.

Cows are full of so much sh*t its unbelievable

Not sure why people care, the ads are in places that you would expect to see them.. In market place.. They don't get in the way and actually can be quite helpful in showing new deals or releases.. I don't see how this would some how be a factor in whether you should get the service or not.. its not like their is a ad bar at the top or bottom when you play games.. Or that it forces you to look at a ad before you can play your game or navigate.. sSubZerOo
Why should you be forced to watch ads when you use services like HBO and EPSN. That's terrible.

No it shouldn't have.. To this date its still the best multiplayer console service.. I would agree with you if it were not for the fact that the PS3 still has yet to have a party system, a cross game chat system, a far easier messaging and invite UI, a better mic system.. Or must I explain the absolutely retarded method that you need to use to invite people in games like Resident Evil 5?sSubZerOo
Is it not possible for XBL to be superior to PSN and still be free? :| Are you really that brainwashed to think that it really costs Microsoft $60/year to provide you with cross game chat and easier messaging? rofl You think the 360's GUI running better than PS3's has anything to do with the yearly fee you pay?

XBL runs better than PSN because Sony was stupid and decided to split the RAM in the PS3 itself into 2 types, not allowing enough RAM to be allocated for stuff like Cross Game Chat to run in the background of games. While Microsoft on the other hand, was smart and originally designed the Xbox 360 with XBL in mind as a huge priority. Let's be honest here, Cross game chat simply isn't possible on the PS3 due to a design flaw, not a lack of funding... lol You really think it costs a company that much to stream voice chat? Hell, if you want to get technical, PSN DOES have a party chat system. I use it all the time to talk with my girlfriend to save minutes on cell phone bills and it works perfectly fine with crisp audio quality. You just can't do it while a game is actually running, which points to tech limits. Hell, the XMB struggles to run properly when a game is running, so it's no surprise that cross game chat can't. Just a stupid move by Sony with the RAM limitations.

And better mic system? Talk about reaching... lol But that's arguable anyways, because PS3 mic quality varies game to game depending on what level of mic quality the developers allow. And if I'm correct, doesn't the PS3 supports Bluetooth/USB mics where the 360 doesn't? With XBL you have to wire any headset you get directly in the controller, which is annoying as f*ck especially when you put the controller down and stand up and it goes flying off the table. Easier messaging service and invite GUI I completely agree with, but again that has to do with Microsoft integrating XBL into games more, not because of your $60/year payment.

Yes, Sony should update the firmware and try make the PS3 GUI run faster this as much as possible, I agree. But that has nothing to do with a subscription fee. It's not like by paying the $60 a year it gives Microsoft some magic powers to do things with the Xbox that Sony can't. lol And TBH I don't think Sony could match XBL anyways even if they tried their hardest, because they really f*cked up when designing the hardware of the PS3 and obviously didn't have PSN in mind as their priority. Which sucks, but I'll live. I've never felt like putting up with slow message GUI and lack of cross game chat was worth going out and switching over to a 360 and spending $60 a year just to use a service that has those minor issues fixed. I'll take saving the money and dealing with those few issues ANY day.

You can deny it all you want, but it's bound to happen eventually.Messiahbolical-

If people like you continue to support sh*t like this, there WILL be ad bars on the top of the screen when you play games soon. You all look like a bunch of dumbasses when you use arguments like the one you just did. Why? Because you don't realize that you are part of the problem, and your submissiveness is what's going to CAUSE companies like Microsoft to start stupid sh*t like making you watch a commercial to start a game. Every time you defend Microsoft for doing garbage like increasing the amount of ads or increasing the subscription fee for no reason, they just start to think more and more that you're an inept f*cking derpface and you don't mind being walked all over, which is why they continue to do it worse and worse. YOU'RE giving them your permission to keep doing more stuff like this. They'll keep hiking up the price too because they know that you'll keep paying it no matter how high it is because you can't think for yourself. You're a sheep.Messiahbolical-

First of all, I'm not a PS3 fanboy. I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about Sony or the PS3 itself. I use my PS3 for what it is and understand the many downfalls of it, but just choose it over the 360 because I don't put up with Microsofts bullcrap. I don't agree with how they run their business, and I feel that most of their customers are sheep. Look at Windows. Look at Microsoft Office. Milked to death and back. I haven't liked Microsoft since before they even got into console gaming, and after what they've done to console gaming SINCE they've got into it I probably never will support them. Deal with it.

Second of all, great reply to my post. You really made a great argument in Microsoft's defense there. Is that all you can resort to? Calling someone a fanboy because you can't make a solid debate as to why they're wrong?

Its not just the different ram, but its also the fact that the 360 has 3 cores and PS3 has ONE core, so the 360 can handle multitasking better. (and no the PS3's 7 SPUs are not the same. The only practical purpose for them is for process streaming tasks like streaming video (Blu Ray movies in particular), or acting as shader cores similar to that of a GPU, but for practical tasks they are basically worthless. Sony tacked on a general purpose core at the last minute.

The Cell Processor was made with the intention of being put in Blu Ray players and Toshiba TVs, and Sony as a cost saving measure simply tacked on a general purpose core at the last minute so that it would actually be somewhat practical as a gaming machine. What sony SHOULD have done, was put the Cell Processor solely for Blu Ray, but put a SEPERATE quad core processor for gaming. They would be destroying MS if they had done that.

Also, add to all of that, the fact that PS3's OS eats up about 30mb MORE than the 360's. (and thats AFTER Sony reduced the footprint, freeing up 74mb or so).

Thanks for actually replying with some real insight this time. I knew there were technical limitations on the PS3 but I didn't realize they were that bad. I don't understand why console manufactures like Sony do stupid stuff like the PS3's architecture. I don't even know why so many of them skimp so much on RAM. RAM is dirt cheap, you'd think they'd load the things up with it. And I never understood the point of the cell. Sure, it's powerful in some ways, but was it really so hard for them to see ahead of time that making a CPU that developers aren't familiar with was going to cause some problems when porting games over? And Sony really should've designed the PS3 with multitasking in mind more. I agree that the GUI of the PS3 is slow as hell when a game is running. It annoys the crap out of me sometimes when all I want to do is send someone a quick message in between matches on COD and it takes like 2-3 minutes to do. And me and my girlfriend would both like to be able to do cross game chat together, because we like to play games in the background when we're talking from time to time. So it's not like I don't have any complaints about the PS3, it's GUI, or PSN... it's just that I'd rather keep those issues and not spend $60 a year, that's all.

Everybody bashing Microsoft here for "ripping off" customers but: A) they still sell their products and services despite the fee B) they aren't on the verge of financial ruin.

So many Sony should learn a thing or two from their competition.

Sony taking the higher road means some massive amounts of money lost while Microsoft just rakes in the cash.

This. Comparing XBL and PSN are like comparing Facebook and Myspace.

On paper, "Myspace does most of what Facebook does, good enough".....but at the end of the day, noone cares because who even uses it?

I dont even use apps on my 360. The console for me is solely for playing games. I turn it on, click "A" to start the game, and dont commit ANY thought to it.

I dont even have Netflix on 360, since I already have it on PS3 but even then I spend the most time watching Netflix from my Laptop anyways.
