http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/01/rumour_metroid_prime_trilogy_for_nintendo_switch_is_ready_to_be_released

This is still in rumor phase but is it anymore?

"According to a series of tweets by Game Informer’s Senior Editor Imran Khan, “it's been long done” and the initial announcement for the trilogy collection on Switch was supposed to happen last month, but not necessarily at The Game Awards. Why exactly this game wasn’t revealed by Nintendo around this time is unknown."

Perhaps, coupled with the news about Metroid 4 being delayed and reworked Nintendo isn't ready to let it go to the masses yet... Are they playing a hype game?

Is this real?

Are you getting it...? I have played approximately zero hours and zero minutes of Metroid Prime games... For me it would be a day 1.

I'd be all over it now that I know I wont be playing a new Prime game for ages. :(

If I could buy only MP 1&2, that would be nice. MP3 wasn't very good.

@TheEroica: It's not a bad game, but it wasn't good enough to make me want to complete it after I freaking loved MP1 and 2.

Metroid to me is about feeling isolated and uncovering secrets of unexplored worlds. MP3 puts you on a base in space talking with people. Not only, but the beginning of the game makes for a really bad first impression. They also removed the really fun strategy of changing beams for different enemies. Samus can now only use one beam. I think I've tried to play the game 3 or 4 times now, just to say that I have played the whole trilogy, but I can never bring myself to continue.

I love when franchises release a trilogy. Especially a franchise as great as Metroid prime.

@TheEroica: I was playing the first one on WiiU 2 nights back and I still enjoy it. I don't need a Switch port (Nintendo shit sure doe$).

I more Prime I buy the more they make. I bought the digital trilogy on the Wii U and barely played it, but I wanted to make sure they knew there was demand for it.

If it's a port or remaster I'd pay 30 dollars for the trilogy if all motion controls are optional and I can play with the Switch Pro Controller.

If we're talking all 3 games fully remade from the ground up (like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon trilogies) I would pay a full $60 for that.

I been hoping for this port since I first saw that the right joycon was pointer. Metroid prime trilogy steelbox was one of my best buys of all time.

I bet Nintendo was shaping up to pull off a MP4 reveal and then announce that the trilogy was available that night. Then when development started going south they had to pull back to avoid the questions about wheres 4

Now that the cats out the bag on 4... and it looks like they want to take their time to get it right... maybe we will see some movement on trilogy soon.

Such a release is desperately needed even more so with the obvious MP4 delay. Right now we don't seem to know what is in the long term after Yoshi in March.

@Litchie: I just replayed the original Metroid on switch... It totally made me remember how special the atmosphere was in that game with the crazy interval Sci fi music... They nail that feel and all is good in the world.

@jcrame10:

If it's just an hd reskin then it'll be atleast $60

If they do ground up ala Crash/Spyro they'd probably release each individually for I'd guess $40 maybe even the full $60.

This is Nintendo we're talking about.

Even without the imo superior wiimote aiming.

@Litchie: I get what you mean about 3. I got the game when it first came out, but I was annoyed by the controls a bit, the lack of weapon variety, and some of the odd characters that were introduced. I remember the one guy was like Silver Surfer but with an ice board or something? It just seemed out of place.

I would definitely go back and give all of the games a shot if they did a Switch version though. It's worth noting I never made it far into 2 or 3.

I completed all the Prime games as they came out. I never did buy the collector's edition for Wii.

They're all fantastic, and IMO it's 3>1>2. I haven't played them in ages, but if this came out, color me interested.

unless its a technical overhaul of all 3 games in the 1 box i probbaly wont get it. i bought all 3 games on the GC and wii as applicable: then the trilogy (i very rarely double dip but i made an exception). so if this trilogy is just the GC tech in widescreen running at 1080P then i wont bother. i can play it on my wiiu.

but a complete HD rebuild of all 3 games like the PS4 version of SOTC would be tempting.

controls would be interesting though. i think a switch version would need to support both the GC setup and the wii setup. the GC setup would be needed for using the switch on the go with the joycons attached. i cant remember if the original controls needed the dual stage nature of the GC triggers though. 3 was also designed around the pointer functionality of the wiimote. the joycons can do that when not docked but how will that be handled in portable mode?

for any who have not played these games and have a switch: if this is a thing then these are 3 must play games.

Edit: actually just thought of another improvement: the audio quality of the soundtrack (just listening to it now). the music itself is great. if some parts of it could be improved (using better voice samples for singing parts of the music and such like). same music just with better instruments basically. that would be nice.

it's going to be like twilight princess HD/windwaker HD. Some new assets and HD. but not a complete remake.

and i'm sure it will be 60$ :P

I’d probably get it. The first Metroid I played was Prime on the GC back in the day, and I gave up on it. Recently I’ve been playing Super Metroid and I get the appeal of Metroid now.

The Gamecube games were terrific, and Super Metroid is also one of the greatest games of all time easily.

The trilogy was on Wii U. I have it myself. It's not remastered, just a port of the Wii collection.

It wasn't even a port really, the Wii-U is backwards compatible with Wii. So if it was offered digitally on Wii-U store you were effectively playing the Wii game. Possibly with zero difference if you had the actual Wii disc. Though I would think there might be some subtle benefits, just playing it through HDMI would probably be a subtle upgrade in itself, compared to component cables on an original wii.

What I'm talking about is a new port and the game playing native 1080p. Which if the Switch can handle would be much better right off the bat, though I'm sure it could benefit from some other refinements as well.

Hopefully these rumors are true. I sold off the expensive Wii trilogy awhile ago. So would be great to pick it up again and get a superior port to boot. Hopefully they can fit the 3 games onto 1 cartridge and don't do that download voucher crap.

Well yeah, ideally the Switch should be able to run a Gamecube game at 1080p/60fps. But we'll see, framerate is definitely preferable. As the screen is only 720p then it wouldn't be surprising to see them only target that resolution which would suck for home gamers.

People called me crazy when I said Nintendo holds on to games, or spreads out their releases not based on when they’re done, but to maximize exposure. Nintendo has handled their first party game releases like the music industry handles album releases. Nintendo has done this for decades.

Smart.

You can have a first year like Switch and people still complain about WHERE ARE DUR GURMEZ!

The only way to appease these people is keep things and release them later.

Pretty boring environment being set on just a space station, having cutscenes and a portrayal of Samus I didn't care for, being a bit hampered by the controller, having really annoying scanning parts and being light on the exploring.. those things aside, I think the game was pretty great.

The gameplay was nice, you felt badass and the beams and stuff were cool. Nice graphics, cool bosses. It has many things going on that I like, but the things I mentioned above are a bit too many things to set aside.. But I definitely don't regret playing the game. It's just not as great as I wanted it to be. That said, if I had a chance to play it again on Switch, remastered or not, I probably would.
