‘It’s huge in scope and scale… but it’s not an open world game’

People ask if Metro is a open-world game, it’s not,” Huw Beynon, head of global brand management for publisher Deep Silver tells us emphatically. “But you do have these huge levels that are miniature open worlds and take several hours to compete… then you get back on the train and roll on to the next environment.”

We don’t borrow from contemporary open-world conventions. There’s already a lot of very similar open-world games out there, but I think what we’ve shown here, and at E3, is that this is a beast unlike anything else, there’s a lot of STALKER influence in there. It’s a hybrid.

Thats why I believe its most ambitious project in development today. not open world but have multiple large and huge missions in scale unlike other open world game. further more.

Just like every Metro game there’s no HUD, we keep the UI to a minimum, we don’t give you fetch quests and objective markers, all the information is still communicated through physical in-game items. There’s no map screen with thousands of different tabs for main quest, side quests and the number of wolf belts you’ve collected,”

And thats why im expecting it to be one of the best FPS ever. or even the Next Half life. its a game that has no minimap, no giant arrow show where to go, no HUD on screen and every location is tag on map in hand ala far cry 2 map (best map ever).

The more article i read. the more i become hyped. seriously 4A games are doing even better than what Crytek did in 2007 with Crysis.

What's with people thinking bigger = better?

Going by your logic Star Citizen is the best game ever made (in production)....

Not something I agree with just giving you context to realize this isn't the best argument to promote your game.

If having large in scope with pushing graphics to limit is not ambitious than what else is?

Ambitious isn't the word, just improving and coming up with good ideas is the word for Exodus. That said, I'm looking forward to Metro Exodus myself, love all the gun customization. This is one of the few games I will actually pre-order on PC with confidence. The first Metro games were great for me that is :)

And speaking of the so-called Ambitious game, I am however interest seeing how "Raytracing" looks in Metro Exodus giving the fact it's giving developers a real challenge with this new technology into PC games, so let's hope Raytracing is available on launch day.

Take notes Bethesda!

it actually sound more ambitious than so called ambitious games like cyberpunk. this game has multiple large sandbox levels with SP campaign more than 20-25 hour long. while cyberpunk or other open world games has only one large city to explore and thats it.

its more difficult to make multiple large sandbox design rather than one large open world.

If it's anything like FF12 that would be impressive, I don't think many if any devs have that kind of dedication anymore to be honest.

No, you killed your own point in the OP...... Having large liner paths that all lead to the same exit is lame and nothing new.

And not a single person has agreed with you about the game being ambitious, because it's not.....

Moving on....

What exactly is ambitious about it? Pushing graphic isn’t excactly anything new, all major AAA games do that, well maybe except fallout

Crysis wasn't that ambitious either. Just like other games, it had to make compromises.

Will it have strong female leads and anime characters? Is it an RPG?

If not then it's not ambitious and should be shunned by everyone as garbage.

Unlike others, I'm not gonna dismiss the thought of the new Metro being really ambitious just because you are you. lol.. For all I know, it might be the game with the biggest sandbox/linear levels ever made, and yes, that'd be ambitious I suppose. But "most ambitious game ever made" sounds very unlikely to me.

Also, the statement in bold I don't understand. That depends on the open world you're trying to create. If your point is that most open world games lack the amount of details found in linear games, then yeah, I'd agree with that. That's because it's easier to make detailed linear games than it is making detailed humongous-sized open world games.

Crysis levels become incredibly linear in second half of game. and 4A mention many times that levels are as big as STALKER and STALKER was far bigger than Crysis.

I mean in new Metro, we have winter snowy missions to rainy missions to summer to autumn etc. with so much variety and diversity.

B-cell/Ghosts4ever/( whatever other name you're using): You are genuinely, undeniably, unequivocally the most ignorant human being I've ever seen on video game forums. Perhaps even on entire Internet.. I'm not saying this to insult you, honestly stating a fact.

Virtually, every thread you make ( and you do make a lot, don't you?) comes down to..

B-cell sees something about:

game he likes...This is the best thing evaaaar!

game he doesn't like...Garbage!Overrated!! Can they not SEE they're hurting my fragile self esteem?!

( And then he repeats his non arguments: Yes it is, yes it is...)

The most ambitious game would go to either on "raw" technical side/scope ( Star Citizen) or Cyberpunk 2077 ( rpg progression systems, futuristic sandbox city, different playstyles, mission design, etc, etc), or possibly next TES ( if Bethesda puts enough manpower on it).

But linear FPS with survival elements? That's rich...you left out Doom Eternal along with it.

Anything is an improvement over the follow the corridor routine of the first two Metro games. The only game I thought that was more linear is Hard Reset. Even that did more crisscrossing around (plus multi-floor paths) to make each stage feel bigger.

More ambitious than Cyberpunk? Stop it. It's going to have a seamless open world that opens up vertically instead of horizontally and it's supposed to do all of this without a single loading screen once you're in game. That's ambitious, not semi open world which has already been done in games like God of War and Final Fantasy XII

I like the fact that it's not full open world... that's good. And I am definitely looking forward to it.

But the most ambitious game ever made? Ummm, what are you smoking?

I've seen the trailers. It looks okay. Repeat: it looks 'okay'. There are tons of games that look much, much better.

'ambitious' let's make the same game as last time.

That is not what 'ambitious' means. It's Metro again with trademark dull and boring graphics but in slightly higher res.

Did you hear that Ghost? It's slightly higher res, you can faint in anticipation of really boring corridor graphics in slightly higher res. Cool, right?

Well in terms of man-hours there is no chance this is the most ambitious game ever, which wasn't the point of the article either.

The structure (train to open-world like hubs) sounds great though. Think it will be a very good game. Wish I had a PC to play it on though. Not sure how friendly Metro is to a controller. I guess it could be, depends on the design. Played the first two with kb/m though so I dunno.

The consensus is unanimous.

OP is smoking something, and we all need to know what it is.

The only thing ambitious here is the massive hyperbole in the OP.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is ambitious, the Metro series has been anything but ambitious.

Sure you could make the case that the Metro games are ambitious compared to Nintendo games but that's not saying much.

No it isn't. It's Star Citizen. Whether it's a scam or not.

I'm not a big fan of using grandiose and generic terms (eg ambitious, game-changer, atmospheric, etc) to describe a game. But, Metro: Exodus may yet end up being fun. So, we'll see.
