Possibly. As a dude who has never played Max Payne, I can't say.

I'd say Metroid Prime 1-3 is solid (but #3 was dissapointing). The Pikmin trilogy is solid.. TimeSplitters trilogy was solid as well.

I still have yet to play 3.but the first 2 are awesome.(1 is better in level design and bossfights, 2 is better in mechanics and enemy AI)

Eventhough I think Max Payne 1&2 are classics I'm actually one of the few people that really likes Max Payne 3, yeah it's different, but it's also a lot better in many ways.

In fact Max Payne 3 is the most playable and enjoyable game today, and I think everyone should play it. The shoot dodging is a blast in any max Payne game, and something no game has ever managed to copy succesfully.

If Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3 are accepted as a trilogy I would take that over Max Payne 1, 2, and 3. I would probably take the Super Mario Bros trilogy over Max Payne also (SMB 1, 2, and 3).

Max Payne is pretty great though.

Max Payne 1 was masterpeice and one of the best action third person shooter of all time. however sequel was dissapointment and 3 was bit better but ruined max as character.

If we are talking about on going trilogy then Metro series

Metro 2033 was great, Last light was even better and Exodus feel like best in series. so imo this trilogy when complete will be best in history

Absolutely correct.

first 3 splinter cell are timeless classic and pure stealth simulator.

One of the best trilogies for sure but not the best. IMO, that honor goes to Mass Effect.

I personally enjoy all the Max Payne games trilogy, hell even the Max Payne movie was a guilty pleasure to that for me anyways. (Not particularly good, but still one of the better game adaptation movies out there)

Max Payne 1 and 2 are some of my favourite pc games of all time. Max Payne 3 however, was total dogshit. What a disappointment.

I just don't get one thing. And I was wondering this now that I'm playing a lot of Third Person Shooters:

Why did so many third person shooters all go about and copy Gears of War or Uncharted's style of doing things with the sitting behind cover, trading blows and bullet spongey enemies.

I far more enjoy max Payne's style of how it handles a third person shooter: shootdodging and having to pick fights to win, instead of just sitting in a confort zone and waiting it out.

In fact I'd argue that Max Payne 3's style of shootdodging combined with some minor cover system is actually one of the best and most thrilling ways to do things. As it both advices you to take cover at times, as well as leap out and lunge at your enemies. it's brilliant.

And apart from which system is better in the end, why did every third person games that involves shooting copy GeoW or Uncharted, and not the amazing third person shooting of the Max Payne series ?

Is shootdodging that inherent to Max Payne that other games wouldn't or couldn't copy it ?

I have no idea, you'd have to ask one of the more informed gamers.

But it is shit, rather straff circles in MDK than sit my ass behind a wall. It's out of place in Max Payne 3 and almost entirely pointless, like a box tick for what modern gamers expected rather than what the game actually needed.

The amount of cutscenes is abit annoying as well, but beyond that, it's great imo.

Yeah there are far more interesting TPS experiences.

Especially when I even enjoyed the older Battlefront games in TPS, Armed and Dangerous, Jedi Knight.

The first Dead Space is pretty much a shooter, and mostly Third Person so...

But yet the majortity of AAA third person shooter games chose to have some inclusion of a cover system. It's actually the thing that bored me the most in TPS recently:

they all start to feel kinda samey

I mean with most of it going on, Max Payne 2 can still look like a true spectacle.

Ah, dual Ingrams never gets old ^_^

If you get a chance, play Max Payne 1&2, preferably on PC.

To me, Max Payne 1,2 is where the whole "Bullet Time" started it all, it was a nice edition to the gaming community, Bullet Time.

Funny enough, Max Payne 1,2 looks better then Quantum Break after by looking at this pic.

The first two were great, however the third one was pretty bad, atleast when compared to the other two. Would rate arkham knight(the first 3) and the witcher series as vastly superior trilogies.

@R4gn4r0k: That Pic Reminded me of Something.

One time i was Playing Max payne 2 , I was Low on Health(1 hit would kill me) then 2-3 guys showed up. I used shoot dodge to kill them and during that dodge i saw a Bullet that was near to hit me but hopefully it didn't.

too bad in Max Payne 2 All Bosses die with few Bullets.(Unlike Max Payne 1 that they were challenging and might shoot you back when you stop shooting for a Moment)

max payne 2 was inferior to original in every way. never understand why people like it better. its more easy, story is worse, max looks better in original, original game was more darker with nightmare levels.

i was disappointed by max payne 2 when it was released as i was huge fan of max payne 1.

Sort of agree. Max Payne 3 actually had a better story and mixed things up more.

Although Max Payne 2 possibly has the coolest final monologue in game ever.

@ghosts4ever: Well IMO Max Payne 2 does some things better than 1:

1.It has a Survival Mode.(Which even more enemies attack you at the same time compare to the main story where it's as much as the first one)

2.you have secondary fire which makes it much more fun to throw grenades.

3.enemies have a better AI compare to 1.(They at least try to dodge your bullets, and they may throw grenades at you unlike max payne 1 where grenades being thrown in fixed places)

4.it has much more advanced NPC escort missions(Max and Vinnie) unlike 1 which only has one(That researcher guy) where you only have to defend him from one wave.

5.I still haven't played New York minute in both games but it feels that this mode is harder in 2.(Since you can't save your game in the middle of the level unlike 1)

6.Graphically it lookes much superior compare to 1.(It also has havok physics unlike 1)

Max Payne 3 is way way worse than the first two but that's not the problem.

On it's own it's not so bad. It's practically little more than an on-rails shooter but it had great graphics, amazingly detailed locations and a very interesting setting. The shooting part wasn't bad either. A solid effort.

However, labeling Max Payne did the game a disservice because it had such a legacy to live up to. They could have just created a new character with exactly the same story and it wouldn't have to be judged so harshly.

As it stands, it's a bad story continuation, it shits all over the amazing finale of Max Payne 2 and Max bears little resemblance to the character of the first two games. Also the gameplay is extremely different and you are much more limited to the way you move about spaces. It feels much more "corridor-y".

As for 1 and 2, each is a masterpiece on its own right. I played them for the first time many many years after they were released, when they were already considered old, and I found them very fun and enjoyable and I loved the story and tone. When Max Payne 2 first came out a lot of people were disappointed that it wasn't more like 1 but I think that was for the better. Each game has its own strengths and together they make a great character arc for Max.

About being the most solid trilogy in gaming, Max Payne 3 on its own debunks that statement but even if it was a worthy continuation there are a lot of other great trilogies out there, like the Witcher games.

Disagree. Max Payne 2 is more of the same. Doesn't really change up the setting or the theme of people whom he wuvs dying.

Max Payne 3 actually shows the long term aftermath, as well as giving closure. His messed up nature is manipulated but his dogmatic perseverance, and sense of morality wins the day. It blunder in places, ending turns into Die Hard and the dialogue spoken is more Rockstar than Shakespearean theatrics of the original. But it pushes the story forward in a way 2 never really did, and concludes it on high.

Max in original game was his best iteration. he was loner, and more iconic.

I dont like his love story (even in boxart it say film noir love story). i prefer lone revenge thrusting max.

Is it really a trilogy though? It comprises of 4 games total (Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knigh 2: Outcast, Jedi Knight 3: Academy) and one expansion (Jedi Knight- Mysteries of the Sith). Either way I've played all of them, in succession no less, and although Jedi Knight 2 is clearly the best, each game is great in its own right and can still be enjoyed today.

Agree my most respected of all friends. The subtle callback to the originals was exceptionally well done, and the graveyard level with the kewl kewl music was the shit.

I enjoyed the one I played. The third one.

@ghosts4ever: Wait, seriously?

Max Payne 2 is probably my favourite shooter of all time. It improved on Max Payne 1 in every way, and the doomed noir love story was fantastic.

Meanwhile, Max Payne 3 was a pile of shit. It wasn't noir, it was just Rockstar ripping off Tropa de Elite. I'm fairly certain that Max was only included in the game as a cynical cash-grab, since he served absolutely no purpose in the story.

Oh, and the gameplay sucked. It's a shame, since the core shooting mechanics were probably the best in the series...but the constant cutscenes, the bad cover-shooter design, and the awful set pieces (I seem to remember hating snipers?) made it a chore to play.

I'd rank them as Max Payne 2 >> Max Payne 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Max Payne 3.

I don't think you (or myself) are some weird subset that like Max Payne 3, it's just a loud minority, of which, most people ignore.

Preach. All three are phenomenal for different reasons. The first one ushered in the dark noire take on third person action along with the bullet time mechanic and the second upped the ante big time with it's havok physics. The third one seems like a love letter to fans of Tony Scott (the "Meet the Devil" short and "Man on Fire" specifically) but continues the journey of Max in some very interesting ways. It also proves (much like Chinatown did) that noire doesn't have to take place entirely at night in order to capture the feeling of the genre. Plus the nuance in it's third person shooter mechanics are second to none. If you suck at it, you've no one but yourself and your lack of patience at uncovering and utilizing the inherent nuance to blame.

To be honest, I haven't come across one valid argument from Max 3's naysayers to be honest so **** those idiots.

There's a pretty strong argument to your statement OP.

Prince Of Persia Sand Of Time trilogy. Is Forgotten Sands a continuation of that? I can't remember.
