Okay, so, I'm a HUGE Mass Effect fanboy, so I wanted unbiased opinions on this. I know that Mass Effect 3 had a pretty disappointing ending, but according to me, it was nowehere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, it could have been A LOT better, but it's not the worst thing mankind has ever seen.

My question to you is, do you think the ending was bad enough to ruin the entire game for you. I mean, you have to agree that Mass Effect 3 was a wonderful game right up until the ending, and no ending can be bad enough to ruin a game as good as this. My philosophy is that it's more about the journey than the destination.

What do you guys think?

Nah. It did very much undermime the entire rest of the game, hell, trilogy, but we still got, easily, enough fantastic experiences from that game to, if not justify, because just how flat out bad the ending was can't really be justified, but allow us to look past it to some extent, I hope at least. It was an absolutely stellar game from start to about 10 minutes before the finish.

From the moment Shepard started his tranny-hobo stumbling up to the catalyst the game's impact was diminished. If I had to choose, I would say it did ruin it.

No, people were so sad by how bleak the ending was that they got depressed.
.
Not to say the ending was good though, it needed much more work. Maybe with the EC it will be improved.

Haven't played the game but if I had to take a guess I would say it's fans being little b!tches because they are less than satisfied with what the writer had in mind.

It didn't run the whole game for me but it really left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Still, Mass Effect 3 was the best playing of all the Mass Effect games.

Even without the ending the game became monotone after a while. But the ending didn't ruin the game although it killed any replay value for the single player.

it took away my desire to replay the ME2 and ME3, because i thought i was gonna get 16 endings, not 16 endings which are 90% similar to each other. pathetic, to say the least.

No one has played it, but radiant Historia. Once you complete all the quests required to get the True Ending, it's amazing.

I played through the whole saga as a Paragon so my choice at the end should of been a no brainer, it wasn't

The endings make my other playthroughs completely pointless, if Bioware's extented cut ending makes more sense to my decision's, I might continue with other Shep's

It doesn't, but it does cheapen the series overall. Realistically speaking.. it seems as though bioware changed writers going from ME 1+2 - 3. 3's ending had many wtf moments and some areas weren't even touched on (I assume for post release content).

Also let me just say, Mass Effect 3 DEPENDS on the other games.. if you play it without a save being imported from ME 2 (which in turn should be imported from ME1) then you miss almost ALL of the characters and don't get a choice for many larger events in the game. Also the squad selection in ME3 is miserable compared to ME2. ME2 had 13 squad mates.. with 12 avaliable at anytime. ME3 has 8 with only 7 being avaliable at once, and two of the 8 being clones of each other (ability wise).

Everything up to the end is excellent. Seeing as how you play a game for escapism and fun while going through it, the ending only impacts your memory of the game, it doesn't negate the enjoyment you got out of the rest of it.

So no, only fools think the ending ruined the entire game. It certainly didn't help it, but it didn't ruin it.

It left a bad taste in your mouth because literally the ENTIRE game was preparing for the final assault and ending, and so the whole game suffers.

Jennifer Hepler wrote the ending? Hmm, the mystery's solved.

FashionFreak

Nope, the ending was written by Casey Hudson and Mac Walters, with no input from the rest of the writing team.

I didn't think the ending itself was bad, I just think everything wrapped up too quickly.

I liked the ending it kept you guessing what really DID happen to Shepard. What i like in a story is suspense and speculation and Bioware used both excellently to keep me interested in the Mass Effect franchise going forward.

The bad thing about the ME3 ending is it really makes everything you did worthless and feel like it just doesn't matter. TBH, I guess I can say it did as I'll have a harder time going back to it and making my decisions seriously when I know it doesn't matter in the slightest.

It was a great game up to that point, and not just because of the anticipation of the ending. It marred what was a great game, but didn't entirely ruin it.

No, no and a thousand times no. It has nothing to do with it being bleak, it has to do with it not making a lick of f***ing sense in the context of the rest of the game and the choices throughout the game having no impact. Bleak would have been fine, bleak would have been good!

Your first paragraph sums it up quite nicely. It's just, AS A HUGE FAN, I thought I deserved a lot more than what I got, which was essentially a dues-ex machina and more plot holes than swiss cheese. There's a scene with Anderson, this is my ending point of the game, everything after doesn't count. That's just me though. Also, if you're a big fan of the series, you must have absolutely LOVED everything before the ending (I know I feel this way and many other fans feel the same way) because let's be honest, you're there for your characters and partners and what not, and ME3 does that exceptionally well. I know that Bioware won't fix their ending but they will AT THE VERY LEAST give us the fan service we deserve, which I guess is alright.

I've not even started it yet but my gf has finished it. Wasn't pleased with her ending, but says 99% of the game is amazing and the complainers are fools to bash the whole thing as a consequence.

Nah, the game was awesome and very epic. The ending was just terrible and the fact the Bioware lied to us about "multiple" endings was just salt in the wound.

I believe this is how you see it... but most people don't like it because they can stay with their LI or something similar.
.
The problem is the starchild, it just doesn't make sense... and the Normandy getting away with all your crew there.

Yeah, pretty much. The entire trilogy, even.

I don't think the ending was outrage worthy, but it could have definitely used more context and less plotholes, and also it smashed the idea of building your own story and killed all the replay value.

I wanted to play all the Shepards I built through ME1 and ME2, but simply couldn't manage to bring myself to play again after I finished the game once with my vanguard.

Not that the ending is the only bad thing in the game, mind you. The huge amount of cheese and sh!t writing in dialogues ruins the atmosphere too.

Exactly. I loved ME3 for how emotionally and expertly it gave closure to all the PERSONAL, character driver story points, which is what, after all, the entire Mass Effect series is about.

The ending isn't what ruined most of the rest of the game, most of the game itself being utterly horrible did.

Considering that the ending makes all my choices throughout the series inconsequential and has more plotholes than swiss cheese I would have to say yes, it did ruin the game for me.
