Was that all you had? I've experienced enough to know what a "bait thread" is. I need not prove myself to anybody :S

If's that's all I ever use it for it's still worth it imo.

Makes my life a little easier = worth it imo.

Shrug.

I can imagine the small gains in convenience, I'm not disproving that I just want to know what potential it has in the game scene.

I guess that we will have to wait to what D4 has in mind for new use of Kinect in gaming. It is supposed to release Q2 2014.

P.S., my nieces and nephews love the 360 Kinect. They literally play Kinect Sports and Dance Central all day when they come over.

ahh, I never thought of the youngins. Maybe Kinect will start focusing on younger audiences?

If you dont like it, dont buy it.

Pretty simple.

Maybe I want to like it? I'm pretty certain MS WANTS me to like it. You seem to be letting the point of the thread purposefully drift over your head. At least this comment was less immature than your first. Getting some where. Now just list me some gains for gaming and you'll be helping.

@co2eed said:

@Solid_Max13: hmm.. simply because it requires no controller to operate.. it scans your facial and body characteristics and implements them in the game.. Microsoft is to Sony as Apple is to Google. I was pissed when Microsoft decided to side with the opinions of gamers because they are not ready for gaming to evolve..

was that indirectly a point there? Body scanning. We've got two points so far. Glad we're starting to weed out the trolls and the drive by shit posters lol.

@edwardecl said:

I think by the responses here the Kinect is not aimed at the hardcore gamer, it's mainly just a UI navigation tool because the UI sucks to use with a controller.

The other main thing to use it with is Skype, and making videos of you playing games (although quite why you would want to do that is beyond me). If they are not bullshitting about it's abilities to detect subtle movements and your heart rate (sounds like bullshit to me) they could incorporate little things in games to determine out comes of situations based on your actual reaction (not over exaggerated movements), perhaps they could use it in RPG games when you are interacting with NPCs by smiling at them or staring at them for funny responses, perhaps you could taunt enemies and use gestures such as waving to get the attention of NPCs.

If they could add that level of immersion into games then great, but I would have to see it to believe it first, the first Kinect seemed like a over hyped piece of shit. The Fighter Within does it no favours, if I was Microsoft I would have banned the release of that.

Interesting.....interesting, would you say that would be a dynamite app for a £100 camera & microphone array though? Second bold paragraph I agree with, both the fighter within comment and the immersion. Fighter within is a new idea that focuses a game completely around kinect that technically wasn't a sports game or some gimmicky game.............but it was heavily flawed which is still my initial worry.

Well in Xbox Fitness it shows you on the screen, shows which muscles are being worked on the most (glowing red spots), reads your heart beat per minute, can tell if your not quiet doing the exercise properly. I also think in Kinect sports that the jetski handles extremely well, moving to which way you lean, boosting if you stomp your foot down, nearly 1-1 movements and the full game isn't out yet, so it can get better.

Apart from those two games, Skype uses it brilliantly, full body tracking, can see you even in a dark room, 1080p video conferencing, plus I got 6 months of free calls to anywhere in the world when I purchased my Xbox One. I am thoroughly impressed with Kinect 2.0 so far, and it's only the beginning, hopefully Microsoft supports it all the way to the end of the gen and more.

getting fighter within feels with the kinect sports game stuff and it's a lil cringy, Stamping your foot to go faster? Focusing on that 'nearly 1:1' is part of the concern, it was advertised without the 'nearly' but it's deliver as nearly when it should be instant. :/ hmmm. Not too sure if we can count Xbox Fitness as game but I'll count it just in case a few lems get salty.

There are only hopes and potential for the Kinect yet nothing of significants has been released for it except Ninja Fruit and Dance Games. I want there to be more games that integrate Kinect kinda like Madden did with calling audibals and saying hut with it. Hopefully Kinect stays attached to the X1 so everyone that has a X1 has a Kinect so hopefully developers will play with it and utilize it. So now all Kinect has are party games, kid friendly stuff, and potential, nothing more.

addressing the bold, even MS isn't really promoting that sort of thing with it anyway. Maybe mainstream kinect games will be a myth and devs will focus on kids games and dance games.

Incorrect. An ad hominem concludes that I dispute your argument based upon an irrelevant fact about yourself, which is not the case, as shown by our quote chain. Use the term correctly. Furthermore, your use of "fallacy fallacy," or "argumentum ad logicam" is also incorrect, as it claims that because of the fallacy, your argument is wrong. Your argument is wrong, plus it is based upon a fallacy. Your argument concludes that because I do not state my argument, that I must have no argument to state... It is both fallacious, and inaccurate, due to the fact that I need not state an argument. I simply refuse to address the topic as it is.

Now, are we done?

Now before you break out the bullet points, I'm strictly referring to game related features and implementations. I don't wanna hear about how good it is at traversing the UI or how 'minority report' the voice commands and hand gestures are. Saying 'Xbox, On!' does not wow me either. At the minute the ones I know about are gimmicky like being able to shout at zombies in DR3(lol, wtf?)

Context: Hopefully at the end of the year I'll be buying a kinectless sku and Quantum Break will have been released(providing it turns out good), not to mention a hefty price drop if sales continue as they are. But in the instance MS keeps kinect as a pack in I was wondering what great benefit Kinect 2.0 actually has to gaming in general for the system and if it's worth waiting until it's eventually dropped even if it takes longer?

Some concerns: I think it's flawed as it doesn't have the advertised 1:1 experience for gaming that plagued the original Kinect and despite being a pack-in will be limited to UI functionality primarily with the odd casual game here and there(D4 & K.S.R). The lack of software also is concerning and shows even MS doesn't have quite as much confidence in it as they thought they had. People are telling me to 'wait and see' or 'hope' that devs use it in the future, which is not really a convincing argument for something I'm paying a premium for.

Do your best!

Since you seem uninterested in everything the Kinect does outside of gaming, I'll give it a go.

So far I have only seen small bits of what I think Kinect can do. Such as using voice to lure zombies toward you or off ledges/building in Dead Rising 3, voice commands for your troops in Ryse, and calling a timeout via voice in NBA2K. Those are very small things, but as time passes imagine being able to call out plays in a basketball or football game via voice while playing online. Imagine switching out a pitcher in a baseball game or subbing in another player via voice. Dialogue wheels like Mass Effect where you can say it rather than press a button. Squad placements/orders in a Gears of War. Call a Titan for Titanfall via voice (Kinect isnt used in part 1, just an example.) I say this on the Gamespot Xbox One podcast and I will here. I do not feel Kinect will ever be a core gaming control scheme. I think for family oriented games like Kinect Sports or niche games like D4 the motion commands will be interesting. But core wise I think Kinect will only ever add to the immersion as time passes, but never be a main control. The device is meant for more than gaming and if some of the examples I have listed don't interest you, or where they could be broadened as time passes and devs get creative, and you have no interest in all of the things Kinect does outside of gaming then I don't think the device is for you. I personally, honestly, will never use my Xbox One without it and hope they never sell a SKU without it. My hope is that they drop the price to 399 and just eat the cost.

But to close, I truly feel Kinect can and will add to the immersion of a game world and gameplay, but never be outside of family oriented motion games be a core gaming control experience. And I am a big fan of the device.

I really don't care about your view on Kinect. I'm not going to try and sell you on it. I do like it though. I like it to compliment my controller, but not to be the controller. I really like using it for TV. It also seems to have gotten better. I had a hard time getting it to hear my voice when playing at the start. Now, it seems more responsive in Xbone games.

If people stop replying to me, I will. Known better? Possibly. Enjoy bantering with you guys? Pretty much.

Assume what you will, it does not make you correct, as per Argumentum e Silentio. Your argument is Ex Silentio.

For gaming Kinect(lol) is a joke.

For turning on your system it works fine.

@misterpmedia:

I'm a big Star Trek fan, and Kinect is just like the TNG Enterprise computer, responds to voice commands....that's just cool stuff imo, been a gamer since the 80's and I just find voice commands quicker than using the controller. All I have to do now to start Killer Instinct is say "Xbox Go to Killer Instinct".....it's not super revolutionary, but it's one of those things that once you get used to it, it's hard to go back without it.

I'm not too fond of the gesture commands, because they don't work well in my current room setup(too much furniture around me....interferes with the gestures), so I can't comment on that. As for the in-game implementations, it's rather very basic right now. Some cool little things like for instance in DR3, you could say "OVer Here" to attract zombies, so it kind of immerses you more in the game. You can issue voice commands to your NPC squad as well, which is faster than using the controller. This will only get better in time. The best implementation in game was for Skyrim on the 360. They released a free patch that pretty much allowed you to use voice commands to do anything in the game, like quick save, quick map, change/cast spells, etc. It completely changed the game for me, and allowed me to instantly use commands without having to go in the game menu.

Anyways, I didn't actually write this to convince you of anything, I'm just giving my 2 cents on the device because I rarely see users on this baord talk about Kinect, you need to make your own research and decisions. Some people say it's a gimmick, and tha's fine. For me, it added a cool new aspect to how I interact with my console, and I look forward to seeing it grow on the X1.

I don't see how you get "A fighter Within" feels from Kinect sports, the controls on that Jet Ski are almost dead on, such a small delay that it is barely noticeable, yes stamping my foot to use the boost, you know, simulating stamping on the gas peddle on a car. Doesn't matter anyway, I gave my opinion on why I think Kinect is great and you didn't like that, you clearly have your own blind opinion about it and won't listen to anyone that give you an answer on what it does well now. Yes we can all make stuff up about its potential, but that is fan fiction at this moment. So far, Kinect Sports works fantastic, Fitness works Fantastic, Voice commands work fantastic, Skype works Fantastic.

An extra 150 dollars for a glorified voice remote which features not even a 10th as good as Siri/Google Voice.

@misterpmedia: My only beef is it's not a SW topic by a standard that a mod locked a previous thread of mine. Mods picking and choosing what qualifies to lock instead of having a set standard. I had a similar thread that go nowhere near this many responses before it was swiftly locked. Different spanks for different ranks.

You do not have enough posts to make threads.

There is no way you can justify 100 bucks for something you don't need and doesn't increase your gaming experience. It sucks on the plain and simple

ad hominem and the fallacy fallacy in the same post,

you are really going for a record now.

again,

just post what you think makes the Kinect great,

and maybe I can actually lose instead of you dodging question with non answers and personal attacks.

you know you have been owned so just sit on your own shit and smell it,

instead of flinging it my way like a Neanderthal

Now, are we done?

are you going to disclose what you think makes the Kinect great?

until you do everything I written will stand as factual,

if you had an argument,

you would've stated it,

why make a big fuss by dodging proper questions with non answers and personal attacks.

it is really simple to offer an opinion,

yet you make it seem like offering one is forsaking your personal credulity.

but I could understand that you think that it would make you look stupid to say why the Kinect is better.
