Literally all I use it for is turning my system on and watching Netflix all with voice commands, I never use it when I'm actually gaming. Also it's really nice to "sign-in" automatically since more than one person uses my console.
If's that's all I ever use it for it's still worth it imo.

I can imagine the small gains in convenience, I'm not disproving that I just want to know what potential it has in the game scene.
I guess that we will have to wait to what D4 has in mind for new use of Kinect in gaming. It is supposed to release Q2 2014.

The other main thing to use it with is Skype, and making videos of you playing games (although quite why you would want to do that is beyond me). Fighter within is a new idea that focuses a game completely around kinect that technically wasn't a sports game or some gimmicky game.............but it was heavily flawed which is still my initial worry.

Now before you break out the bullet points, I'm strictly referring to game related features and implementations. I don't wanna hear about how good it is at traversing the UI or how 'minority report' the voice commands and hand gestures are. Saying 'Xbox, On!' does not wow me either. At the minute the ones I know about are gimmicky like being able to shout at zombies in DR3(lol, wtf?)
Context: Hopefully at the end of the year I'll be buying a kinectless sku and Quantum Break will have been released(providing it turns out good), not to mention a hefty price drop if sales continue as they are. But in the instance MS keeps kinect as a pack in I was wondering what great benefit Kinect 2.0 actually has to gaming in general for the system and if it's worth waiting until it's eventually dropped even if it takes longer?
Some concerns: I think it's flawed as it doesn't have the advertised 1:1 experience for gaming that plagued the original Kinect and despite being a pack-in will be limited to UI functionality primarily with the odd casual game here and there(D4 & K.S.R). The lack of software also is concerning and shows even MS doesn't have quite as much confidence in it as they thought they had. People are telling me to 'wait and see' or 'hope' that devs use it in the future, which is not really a convincing argument for something I'm paying a premium for.

Since you seem uninterested in everything the Kinect does outside of gaming, I'll give it a go.
So far I have only seen small bits of what I think Kinect can do. Such as using voice to lure zombies toward you or off ledges/building in Dead Rising 3, voice commands for your troops in Ryse, and calling a timeout via voice in NBA2K. Those are very small things, but as time passes imagine being able to call out plays in a basketball or football game via voice while playing online. Imagine switching out a pitcher in a baseball game or subbing in another player via voice. Dialogue wheels like Mass Effect where you can say it rather than press a button. Squad placements/orders in a Gears of War. Call a Titan for Titanfall via voice (Kinect isnt used in part 1, just an example.) I say this on the Gamespot Xbox One podcast and I will here. I do not feel Kinect will ever be a core gaming control scheme. I think for family oriented games like Kinect Sports or niche games like D4 the motion commands will be interesting. But core wise I think Kinect will only ever add to the immersion as time passes, but never be a main control. The device is meant for more than gaming and if some of the examples I have listed don't interest you, or where they could be broadened as time passes and devs get creative, and you have no interest in all of the things Kinect does outside of gaming then I don't think the device is for you. I personally, honestly, will never use my Xbox One without it and hope they never sell a SKU without it. My hope is that they drop the price to 399 and just eat the cost.
But to close, I truly feel Kinect can and will add to the immersion of a game world and gameplay, but never be outside of family oriented motion games be a core gaming control experience. And I am a big fan of the device.

I really don't care about your view on Kinect. I'm not going to try and sell you on it. I do like it though. I like it to compliment my controller, but not to be the controller. I really like using it for TV. It also seems to have gotten better. I had a hard time getting it to hear my voice when playing at the start. Now, it seems more responsive in Xbone games.

I'm a big Star Trek fan, and Kinect is just like the TNG Enterprise computer, responds to voice commands....that's just cool stuff imo, been a gamer since the 80's and I just find voice commands quicker than using the controller. All I have to do now to start Killer Instinct is say "Xbox Go to Killer Instinct".....it's not super revolutionary, but it's one of those things that once you get used to it, it's hard to go back without it.
I'm not too fond of the gesture commands, because they don't work well in my current room setup(too much furniture around me....interferes with the gestures), so I can't comment on that. As for the in-game implementations, it's rather very basic right now. Some cool little things like for instance in DR3, you could say "OVer Here" to attract zombies, so it kind of immerses you more in the game. You can issue voice commands to your NPC squad as well, which is faster than using the controller. This will only get better in time. The best implementation in game was for Skyrim on the 360. They released a free patch that pretty much allowed you to use voice commands to do anything in the game, like quick save, quick map, change/cast spells, etc. It completely changed the game for me, and allowed me to instantly use commands without having to go in the game menu.
Anyways, I didn't actually write this to convince you of anything, I'm just giving my 2 cents on the device because I rarely see users on this baord talk about Kinect, you need to make your own research and decisions. Some people say it's a gimmick, and tha's fine. For me, it added a cool new aspect to how I interact with my console, and I look forward to seeing it grow on the X1.

I don't see how you get "A fighter Within" feels from Kinect sports, the controls on that Jet Ski are almost dead on, such a small delay that it is barely noticeable, yes stamping my foot to use the boost, you know, simulating stamping on the gas peddle on a car. Doesn't matter anyway, I gave my opinion on why I think Kinect is great and you didn't like that, you clearly have your own blind opinion about it and won't listen to anyone that give you an answer on what it does well now. Yes we can all make stuff up about its potential, but that is fan fiction at this moment. So far, Kinect Sports works fantastic, Fitness works Fantastic, Voice commands work fantastic, Skype works Fantastic.
