If true I might have to get one. That was my biggest issue. Not because of privacy concerns but I did not like the idea of paying extra for something I would never use.

Smart move. Though I enjoy using Kinect, a ton don't and don't want to pay for it. MS hasn't sold then on needing it, so this is a smart move. People spoke with their wallet, so this is the result. They reached price parity, so now they need to hammer the **** outta games at E3. E3 will be nothing but gaming, period. I bet all new features and OS updates will hit well before E3. Great move to do it well before the event.

While kinect is cool the core gamer doesn't really have a use for it.

I disagree with this....they are basically giving up on the product they built the XB1 around. I would hate to have an XB1 without my voice commands.

I thought they were never going to sell xbox 1 without kinect because it was needed. If anything this would make me lose faith in MS

Nah, its a really good move dictated by fans that to the majority they never sold them on what Kinect offered. I use it and like it alot, but many others don't so rather than be so prideful they ride things out into the ground they just gave people who were sitting on the Xbox One fence what they wanted. Price drop, no Kinect. They opportunity they have at E3 is to sell to the hardcore gamer.

But yeah, they pretty much killed any hope of Kinect 2.0 taking off, lol.

What next? Name change to Xbox 720? Microsoft has abandoned everything since the consoles announcement. All of this flip flopping is making them look weak and short sighted.

Say what you will about Microsoft, they do listen to the community. The Nintendo leadership could learn a thing or two from Microsoft's game division. If they announced a $150 WiiU without the tablet controller, I bet things would turn around for Nintendo in a big way.

I think it's a horrible move. It just shows they can't be trusted if they ever could and anything they say could change at anytime.

most consumers don't do research. People WILL buy the cheaper xboxone and wonder where are all the kinect features they saw on TV. I worked in a gamestore for afew months..trust me this will happen.

Yes, but this whole system was integrated with Kinect in mind, that's what they have been saying & showing from the jump. This is a desperation move which isn't needed, if you ask me.

And now what does that mean for devs that want to use voice commands in games? Why would they even bother implementing kinect at all? I don't like this.

@GoldenElementXL: Its not flip-flopping, its making changes on the fly that consumers have been s creaming they want. In business your original plan and what will actually work don't always coincide. The smart businessman knows when to switch course and make smarter moves. MS has taken entertainment apps from behind the Gold paywall, removed Kinect, and lowered the price to $399. You can't be so prideful that you don't see the writing on the wall. I wished MS would take the hit anbd keep Kinect in the box, but they thought otherwise, lol. Its fine by me. I can still use Kinect and others who want nothing to do with it can have a Xbox One without paying for it. It takes alot of grit to change course and make smarter moves even when you know criticism will come. Kudos to Phil Spencer righting this f'ing ship.
