Heavenly Sword is "half-assed" says Itagaki

Lead graphics progammer of Tecmo Itagaki Tomonobu has slammed the PS3 exclusive title as 'half assed' in the latest issue of EGM. Itagaki commented that the game is 'half-assed' because its asking you to do all kinds of button timing sequences of which you as the game player don't really get much out of it from.

What a arrogant person... what is he basing this off the demo ? seriously. I just lost all respect for this guy. He creates one good game ( ninja gaiden ) and one ok fighter ( DOA ) and a booby game ( DOABV ) and all of a sudden he can talk **** about other devs like he is god or something ?

First he disses Tekken, then he disses Heavenly Sword. The cows must all have this guy on their hitlist.:lol:

Hes ALWAYS been an arrogant ass. Frankly thats one of the more tame comments hes ever made.

He does make a good action game though.

Itakagi has always been like that. In fact, he said he made DoA because he couldn't stand how fighting games like Tekken sucked so much.Panzer_Zwei

and because temco was on the verge of shuting down and they needed a game to get them back on top. and so what he doesnt like heavenly sword.. had he said something positive about the game everybody wont be jumping up and down praising him..besides..its not like he called it "halfass" and didnt give a reason why.

I agree with him. I found many elements of the gameplay were rather empty and rewardless.

I'm almost totally convinced that the story and audio will carry this game to an 8.5. Gameplay will not be this game's selling point. Not at all. Not when compared to the best action games out there.

AAA it will not be.

IMO this can say anything about any game he wants, look at the work that he has put out, its incredible, granted he has been like this for the longest time, i dont see the reason to bash him about it, and besides its his own opinion. What if Shigeru Miyamoto (mario creator) bashed crash bandicoot or rayman, i doubt you would rant on about him because he is a guy who has alot of experience/success. once again, this is just my opinion MasterChief4249

Itagaki created Ninja Gaiden. I think he knows a little something about Action game quality.

And yes, of course he is basing this on the demo. What else does he have to base it on? It's still better than every mouth breather on this forum spewing a random sequence of "A" based on a screenshot.

That's not how he phrased it.

I'm pretty sure he means that the combos are not rewarding. They are either not as effective or tactical as they should be, or are not graphically satisfying to the player, or both (relative to their complexity).

I have played the demo of HS. It is decent, like 8.0 or maybe an 8.5, but it isn't better than any recent NG game.eastside49er

The gameplay in this title is not better than Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

The framerate is not better than Sigma.

The graphics are debatable.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma only scored 9.0 here.

If Sigma only scored 9.0 and we KNOW Heavenly Sword is inferior in the above ways, how in the world do we expect it to get a score equivalent to or greater than Sigma?

It won't.

Heavely Sword will be 8.0 or 8.5. Fanboys will have a fit, but they set themselves up for failure.

Hes probebly just pissed that Heavenly Sword is now competing with Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly sword is a God of War Mixed with Ninja Gaiden fighting style gameplay :)

Honestly, i played both Ninja gaiden sigma and Heavenly Sword Demos and i can trully say Heavenly Sword is better :)
