Generations after generation, it has been proven, Sony top tier studios are behemoths in tech advancements.

TLOU/GOT/DS looks a tier above Horizon/GOW/U4/Spiderman which is a tier above the likes of W3, AC

Only Anthem's 2017 could have competed but looks like it got downgraded in 2018 and now it looks worse Horizon/GOW.

Games published by Sony have some of the highest quality production values in the industry. They always look super polished.

While the games look grades, the age of the PS4 is definitely starting to show. Spider-Man doesn’t look better than Arkham knight which is what 2-3 years old? But yeah with the hardware they have available, it’s very impressive what they put out!

That being said, claiming graphic king for games like Spider-Man Gow is laughable to be honest...

I still believe that Horizon is the best looking game I've ever played on a console. The only game I can see coming close to it would be Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon 2 :)

TLOU 2 looks significantly better than horizon, as does Ghost of Tsushima. Although, not entirely sure a graphics downgrade will occur down the line.

I think some games on PC are more technically impressive, but as an overall polished product, the games Sony pump money into look really slick and usually have great animations and good art direction which can add up to a game looking overall more impressive

It depends on what Crysis 1 we talk about..... The PC version on CryEngine 2? Graphically it could manage an easy 1080/60 but that little Jaguar CPU would run into low 20's..if not lower as it just does not have the IPS to manage the game engine.

If we talk about the engine PS3 and 360 used with the Ultra PC settings then it should be possible as it's multithreaded.

N64 was prettier and more powerful than PS1.

Xbox and GC were both prettier and more powerful than PS2.

X360 was prettier than PS3 for most of the gen, despite it's theoretical cell power. Couple of first party games did eventually look as good as Gears though ;)

Of course they are! Who needs things like hairworks when a few strands clipping everywhere (as found in HZD) are so much more advanced? You can also take into account the advances in definition; going from sub pixel accuracy to checkerboard "guessing" is so advanced. LOD also shows terrific advancements: going from rich detailed worlds in the distance (on PC) to focusing on the immediate surroundings and showing (when lucky) grass with no shadows or blurry low poly environments (when not downright fog) is such an advancement. They are also kings regarding frame rate, AO, tessellation, etc: because less is more!

Yep, they often look amazing. Ghost of Tsushima showed nothing all that intensive... Mostly one-on-one fights with 2-3 guys in the background. I'll wait for more on that game. TLoU2 was probably the best looking, but holy hell did that look heavily scripted. I honestly find myself saying that Spider-Man is the most impressive from the looks... Full exploration with differing missions. Combat looks relatively fluid, though a little jarring (like Batman).

Well, PS1 had games as pretty as Chrono Cross, Tekken, Vagrant Story and Gran Turismo 2 that looked better than most of what's on the base N64 without an Expansion Pack... as they had more detailed textures (even though the N64 did have the best 3d of that era)

PS2 had titles like Black, God of War, MGS3 and Final Fanatasy XII, that looked far beyond what the competition could make on their superior hardware.

And PS3 blew everyone else out of the water since the half of it's long lifecycle.

95% of multiplats looked and played better oh fanatical one. That's all that really matters since Sony's main goal was pretty graphics with shitty fps and cinematic game play. All fluff and no substance so judging by exclusives is useless. The PS3 with all it's power came in 2nd on the console wars graphics.

Sony games look absolutely stunning. There is no denying that. I do wish their games didn't use the Uncharted method as much as they do, but either way, they will be among the best looking games at their launch. Sony's E3 reminded me I need to get back into Horizon ZD so I can check out GoW afterwards.

You’d think by now they would have come to terms with the fact that Sony’s devs are some of the best in the industry when it comes to visuals but these clowns are still in denial. I can’t wait for the clean sweep Sony’s games are going to take at the end of this year and you already know TLOU2 will clean house whenever it releases.

Hell, the Ps2 couldn't even run Chronicles of Riddick or Half life 2, it was the weakest console of that Generation, even the Cube had more raw power and was only held back by it's storage medium.

PS2 games never looked better than Xbox and GC's best, sorry. Black was even on Xbox and ran better. PS3 had Naughty Dog + God Of War games that arguably looked better than the best X360 games. Those handful aside? Never saw it myself, close enough to call it a tie (X360's lengthy early lead neutralised by PS3's eventual handful of graphics kings)

Black, as did every other multiplat, looked better on the Xbox and Halo 2 was Graphically ahead of any exclusive on the Ps2, and the Xbox had chronicles of Riddick which looked better than anything on the Ps2 but was Multiplat with the PC.

You also forgot the Xbox had games like doom 3, Arguably the best looking game of that generation, and Pariah which also looked better than anything on the Ps2

I do give their first party props for the more recent past and current. However, I play games not graphics so the marginal benefit on graphics is rarely important to me.

But the PS2 released at the beginning of 2000 while the Gamecube and Xbox released at the end of 2001. They had a whole year and a half for better tech.

The PS1 released at the end of 1994 while the N64 released in the middle of 1996.

So it makes sense that the Sony consoles were weaker.

He clearly never touched either the Gamecube or the Xbox if he thinks the Ps2 churned out the games with the best graphics that gen, you just have to look at the difference between multipats like Ghost recon 2 and Dredd vs Death and time splitters to see that the Xbox was miles ahead of the Ps2 in the graphics department.

They look good, but fail to beat out many PC games on Ultra 4k.
