And I typed this in the other (closed) thread, but a really really dead market would mean zero interest in home console games.
But the fact we still see occasional "eruptions" of interest in Media Create/Famitsu - the fact that we see fluctuations going upward that coincide with some major game releases - means that there is still some home console interest among Japanese gamers.
They seem to be waiting for the right balance of content + price. I would even argue the Wii U might not be a good leading example of how Japanese games generally feel about home consoles now. Yes, the sales have slowed down, but we've been looking at PS3, Xbox 360 (dead), Wii and Wii U for the last 1.5-2 years on these Media Create/Famitsu charts.
PS4 kind of just arrived a few months ago with the least amount of games it's ever going to have. Are we saying there is a permanent bias against home consoles and the PS4 won't pick up a little in the future, even with inevitably more games + price cut way in the future?
I don't understand why the Wii U was given so many passes but the PS4 must be resigned to live the same depressing outcome as the Wii U. When the Wii U does a little better, they get excited for the upcoming weeks/months. Interest has been revived. But when the Wii U does bad, then the PS4 has to be dragged down with it and Japan has written off home consoles forever.
