In a traditional sense, it would be animal cruelty because you pit animals against each other for entertainment. Like rooster fighting. But since it's fiction, it doesn't really matter. That's like getting upset over all the virtual genocide you make in shooting games. It's basically thought crime.

To your first question... Yes. Regardless, PETA are smooth brains, like I stated.

This mindset assumes that the world in which Pokémon is set follows the exact same rules as the real world. Maybe there’s some essence within Pokémon that make them long for battle or being captured. Perhaps it’s completely necessary on some scale.

It’s a fictional universe, and it’s silly to think that there is a direct correlation between Pokémon and real life animals. What even constitutes a Pokémon? Are Magnemite, Garbador, Sandygast, Gengar, and Muk animals too? These are the kind of liberals who love to ruin fun. Worse than religious cults.
