Is Mafia now last hope for Third person games?

Hello friends,

So we have seen that many of third person games become bland in years and we have not gotten engaging third person action/shooter game since Max payne 3 (not counting Hitman as its stealth game). some become cover based gears clones, and some become cinematic movie games and if not involving guns then they are AC/Batman clones.

Enter Mafia, one of the best game ever made due to how immersive game was, how atmospheric it was and how amazing its story was. to this day no third person game surpassed it. game was hard and brutal and having no hand holding and thats why its above todays third person games like assassisns creed, last of us and uncharted. and it was also better than GTA in ever single way.

Now its remake coming out in few month and it remain to be seen if they nail it or ruined it as a result I believe this game is now our last hope for Good third person game.

by the look of screenshot it seem like they nail it but maybe gameplay wise they put mafia 3 elements to ruined it. but if they make it atleast like Mafia 2 but with Mafia 1 story, missions, characters. i would still be happy. part of me think that majority of time Remakes are better than actual games but remastered tend to be cashgrab ie worse.

Third person is only bad for competitive multiplayer. For singleplayer its perfectly fine.

Before tapping on this thread, I was thinking; "must be a Ghost thread." This forum doesn't tell you the thread author on mobile.

Not the first time I did this, too. I remember doing this at least five times before this, and only got it wrong once. Uncanny.

I did! When i was 15y old playing my first multiplayer games online. Im glad that games that take it serious such as Escape From Tarkov have no third person animations at all.

I had a lot of fun with Zombie Army 4 and playing Division 2 right now and it's fun so far. I still have fun with Gears games for their online Horde modes, had fun with RE2 and RE3 remakes. Control was good. I am not going to think too hard about the TPS games I have had fun with, suffice to say I don't think the future of TPS games hinges on Mafia games.

As much as I like the Mafia series GTA will always be better unless you just like Mafia stories. Mafia's combat is mediocre at best GTA IV combat destroys it easily and even GTAV combat is better. Mafia's combat is dated the game doesn't even have ragdoll physics as for Mafia 2 it is a bit better then the first games combat but still can't touch GTA IV or V.

Best part is, he's not even trolling. We dove deeper into Ghosts take on this subject in the lounge a while back. Basically boils down to two things.

1. He simply doesn't play enough games, so in his small world these games are the shit.

2. When he does happen to try a better 3rd person game, he rejects it. Anything that involves depth or skillful play is a no-go.

So Ghosts legit feels like this game is saving games that aren't in 1st person. Not just a particular genre, but an entire range of games that loosely have a similar camera perspective. Mafia is going to save us on everything from Resident Evil to Mario to The Last of Us to Zelda to Devil May Cry, etc. with only a new Buttman game possibly being the next savior.

What's even better, Mafia basically follows the movie game checklist that Ghosts despises. And in many instances is even worse at it than the "movie games" he hates so much.

Mafia 2 is no where near as good as original. and majority of fans (including me) disappointed by Mafia 2 back in 2010. due to being bit more like GTA (like driving from point A to point B) than Mafia but it was still cool game. and probably better than any GTA too.

and lol at GTA combat is better. Mafia 1 has some of the best shooting in TPS. it was realistic shooting with recoil system.

Mafia is game that divided into chapters like linear shooter with sandbox design and driving feel like racing sims and you can refuel you car, speed limit make it more immersive experience than cartoonish GTA experience.

sadly 2k turn Mafia into GTA by the time Mafia 3 released, the reason people (more like bunch of casuals) complain about linearity of Mafia and wanted another GTA. they got another GTA.

No, but it a good step in the right direction. 3rd person shooters are better than FPS's and I say that as a hardcore rusher. People that say camping is worse in 3rd person are wrong.. people move a LOT more because they can peek around a corner to see if the coast is clear, but in FPS's they never move in the first place BECAUSE they are afraid of other people already camping. That is just an excuse campers use to justify playing FPS... lol

and if they get close they will revive it like they did Fighting Games and Beat em Ups... so it's all good either way.

Ghost games are immersive, atmospheric and mechanically perfect. same cant be said about your games. especially sleeping dogs and GTA compare to glorious Mafia lol.

To be completely fair, Crysis still does a lot of stuff better than FPS games today. But come on, dude. There are a lot of fantastic games out there, on every platform.

More like last hope to get a good Mafia game.

Mafia was definitely ahead of its time because it was built from the ground up on PC like so many great PC games from that period the attention to detail is fantastic but the combat is still janky as shit and has age horrible especially the melee.

But GTA also has amazing attention to detail.
