Is Helldivers 2 still the current GOTY after DD2 release?

Struggling to comprehend how Helldivers 2 gets beat for goty this year, but there are some games still yet to come out.... Honestly I thought if anything has a shot it's DD2 because the gameplay will be excellent... That said, the launch was not as celebratory as I'd thought and maybe DD2 won't have the special sauce after all... I'd never personally give a goty award away to a fart sniffing remake (unless we want to just go ahead and declare gaming dead) so Final Fantasy is out....

We're almost 1/3rd of the way through 2024.... Does Halldivers 2 maintain its lock on goty?

FF7 Rebirth for me

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is still far and away mine. Still need to play Dragon’s Dogma 2 though. As much as I think that I’ll enjoy it I have a difficult time thinking that it’ll overtake FFVII Rebirth.

143h in Helldivers 2 and 3h in DD2. I can't say as of yet. And dd2's launch positivity was completely rolled by the game running poorly and mtx that shouldn't have been there, but that doesn't mean that the game itself isn't good.

Also, No Rest For The Wicked has everything needed to win GOTY, so unless the full game doesn't come out this year, this has high potential as well. Stalker 2, if its anything like i imagine it being, has extreme potential of being my personal goty, but because this developers is literally not showing anything about the game, i just don't trust them at all.

I will wait for the end of the year, but Helldivers 2 is not on my list.

No Forza Horizon 6 will be GOTY. It will be announced at MS E3 type show in June and will be released in October.

Of all the games I've gotten so far this year Helldivers 2 is EASILY at the very bottom of the pile and my son agrees.. such an overrated game that was given more credit than was due because of the friendly price tag (this is just my opinion though). I don't usually fall for hype, but I had to see what all the commotion was about. What did I get? A game easily outdone by others in its genre like Destiny, Outriders, and Warframe. GOTY? Not a single chance in hell in my opinion.

I'd put the games I've bought this year in this order

1. Unicorn Overlord

2. Granblue Fantasy Relink

2. Dragons Dogma 2

4. The Outlast Trials

4. MLB The Show 24

6. Rise of the Ronin

7. Helldivers 2

April games I'd like to get include Eiyuden Chronicles, SaGa Emerald Beyond, Crown Wars, and possibly Stellar Blade but probably not. Eiyuden Chronicles is my only for sure day one though. Something tells me that HD2 will continue its downward slide. I'm happy for everyone/anyone who enjoyed the game, but I don't get it.

It's still early in the year but it doesn't seem anywhere near as heavy as 2023 was. Helldiver's 2 is fine and pretty fun but if it ends up GOTY, more than anything that would just be proof that 2024 sucks, much like when Shadows of Mordor won here and DA: I elsewhere in 2014.

The GOTY awards are fake anyway. Even if FH6 got a 100/100 on your beloved metashitic it still wouldn't be nominated because of bias against racing games, it's as simple a s that.

I've even seen a Youtuber who has voted on the shonky awards show saying that racing games shouldn't qualify for the GOTY because it's a racing game and has no story.

FH5 released in the worst gaming year in history and it still didn't win GOTY. Thankfully they gave it to It Takes Two, a much better game than FH5.

Helldivers 2 aint winning GOTY.

Its a fun multiplayer game but nothing else.

DD2, as I kind of feared, is no where near as good as people hyped it up to be.

People said it was the new Elden Ring. People expected 95+/100 metacritic. 10/10s across the board.

Instead what we got was a decent 8/10 (with mods) game. It isn't winning GOTY either.

FF7 Rebirth is the leading candidate for GOTY thus far,

though my bet is still (as I said in my thread months ago) - Ken Levine's JUDAS.

Love the game and I see it getting a nom but having it win has a low chance imo. It’s too early to tell.

Helldivers 2 was never GOTY though. It's a fun little game, but the hype is now gone and the online population is plummeting.

FF7 Rebirth clears both this year. Easy GOTY for me even though the ending suck assssssssszzzzzzz.

I have a strong feeling Judas will be a 94-97/100 metacritic, GOTY-winning masterpiece. I said it since the first second it was revealed. Now that we have seen more footage and revealed more of the story - my opinion still stands.

Racing games as with all over genres can qualify for GOTY as long as it's a good game genre has nothing to do with it.

Speaking of Metashitic, a little bit of research says that 110 reviewers reviewed Forza Horizon 5 and were all positive, but couldn't get a nod for a nominee for GOTY, and yet Elden Ring only has 93 reviews all positive even though Namco issued a public public apology over its performance issues and not ONE of those reviewers marked the game down for it, and was not only nominated but won GOTY, talk about fake awards.

Oh and FH5 was the second highest rated game in 2021 only beaten by a game that got just 10 reviews, and was higher rated than the eventual winner in It Takes Two 88 the 11th highest rated game of 2021, I love it when you're Metashitic bites you on the arse.

Now is any Forza Horizon game good enough to ever win GOTY? No. Far from it. They are not on the level of The Last of Us, Witcher 3, BOTW, RDR2, GoW, Bloodborne, Sekiro, The Last of Us 2, Elden Ring, GoW: Ragarnarök, BG3, RE4, etc. etc.

And Elden Ring's metacritic score is 97 and FH5's is 92. the .5 difference might not sound like much but that's the difference between being the 15th highest rated game of all time (or so) and not even top 100 highest rated of all time.

2021 was the worst year in the history of gaming, so yeah FH5 happened to be the second highest game, behind some piece of shit I have never even heard of: "The House in Fata Morgana - Dreams of the Revenants Edition"

These shitty Switch games, like racing games get reviewed a much more generous scale than other genres so I knew that neither one of those two would win GOTY.

I don't know Helldivers.

Would rather play DD2 with a bunch of developer-made characters with personalities and stories who can be swapped in and out of the party, and the ability to play as anyone in the party at will. Character creation is bad, always was. All the okay looking characters people have made look samey because they picked from the only good presets, and they all have messed up anatomy and dead faces anyway.

Game also looks too much like the original. Too much sequelitis. But that's Itsuno for you. Only iterates. Why I don't like DMC4 and 5 much.

Geralt (TW3) vs custom in TESIV/TESV - easily Geralt

No chance of it being better than either hl2 or dd2, and i am not about to play a 2d game on a 27" screen. These games are made for handhelds, and i don't own one, so no thanks.

Helldivers 2 is a fan favorite. Its critical reception was nowhere near as strong.

I do love the site, its fav, i adore it, but DD1 didn't score that well, and was one of my fav titles from the 7th gen, so in certain occasions, scores mean nothing.

Unicorn Overlord, a Vanillaware gem with best in class Ogre Battle style Gameplay has met better fan reception than Dragon's Dogma 2. Not surprising too, considering DD2 issues ranging from pacing, enemy variety and lack of innovation. As for Unicorn Overlord, it innovates on so many regards, so it is no surprise people love it.

The only major issue is that the game wasnt on PC, where there was a huge audience for it.
