I guess Volition didn't have enough money to pay off these website reviewers to get higher scores like what Rockstar did with GTA IV.

[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"][QUOTE="V_Isle"]7.5 - 8.5. I don't see it getting it an AAA anymore. If it couldn't get an AAA at IGN, then there's very little chance it'll get one here.V_Isle
Was anyone expecting this to be a AAA game, though? Good-great? Yes. AAA? No.
I hope it isn't "the new San Andreas". That game was awful.

now way!!!! san andreas was amazing ....soooo much better than it's predecessors IMO.....i prefer GTA4 over it tho
meh it's still better than gta4 in my books. They didn't take points off of gta for having the same mission done over and over, but the took points off for that with SR2. You can really tell when companies get caught up in hype and give a game better than it deserved like gta4
Believe it or not, I'm playing this game guys...Can't say much or else I'll get banned....Let's just say the "Chinese Connection" and leave it at that.....
This game will NOT get a AAA score! The graphical and other glitches will prevent that (no way its polish as GTA IV), but fun wise, this game DESTROYS GTA IV by the bucket loads!!!!
So yea, here I go, 12 hours in.....Only 2 missions completed with my "Stripper Gal" in a designer bra and thong panties...(Got to buy the sweet cheerleaders outfit though and the absolutely insane "One Piece Swim Suit 3"). Went around town on a bike unlocking everything while Europe's "The Final Countdown" and Cutting Crew's "LAnd Down Unda" is pumping on the sterio...
So far, Finished one set of Insurance Fraud (more fun than ever, now run at big ol' semi and watch yourself get flinged 1000 feet in the air, then come back down with a really loud scrunching noise!) and got infinite sprint....
Already took out a hitman list (got grenades in exchange).
There are WAAAYYYYY too much side stuff to do here. Want to try out the new snatch and Escort missions but right now don't have the time lol.....I think I'll enjoy this game more than GTA IV.......The amount of clothing options is simply outrageous even at this point!
[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"][QUOTE="Juggernaut140"]I'd much rather play this than GTA4. Screw bowling and darts, I want to play Insurance Fraud :DJuggernaut140
NIKO IT IS YOUR COUSIN LET US GO BOWLING!
LET US GO SEE SOME AMERICAN TEEEEEEEEEEEETEEEEEEEEEZ
Roman was so annoying...I really wanted to kill him
wait, I did it a couple of times :P
Thats a great score. Would have been better if the animations weren't crap.Cedmln
I think he put it a bit too low, he should've gave the game an 8.6 or 8.7 because he lowered the score too much on the graphics side, which he said were still good.
8.5 here I'll predict.
I had a chance to play this game today for about two hours, and while obviously i need to buy it and play the whole thing through properly, i think it's an example of how gamers (or reviewers) are starting to value graphics over gameplay. IGN marked this game down for not being as realistic and graphically appealing as GTAIV; yet they failed to mark it up for being so much more fun.
I honestly had more fun playing this for two hours or so than i can remember ever having with GTAIV. Where GTA demands that you take your girlfriend out to play darts, Saints Row asks that you hurl yourself in front of moving cars to claim insurance fraud.
The police arent annoying circles on the radar, but insane, gun-happy lunatics who chase you down in incredibly fun car chases.
If you liked Vice City or San Andreas, i really cant emphasise enough how much you need to play this game.
[QUOTE="mo0ksi"]GTA killer eh?
Funny how people actually thought that.

Hahaha. That's what they said about True Crime...
nothing can beat the ultimate in gaming - GTA

Wow I disagree with you 10000000% there. lol.
Here is a funny blog, he is usually more articulate(see his other posts) but he threw some of it out the window.

He is an avid supporter of SR2.

IGNs review i dont really find credible because they have to say "Oh its not GTA so it gets marked down"...what kind of crap is that?when Greg was still here, he reviewed the game for what it was;not as some clone, but as a free roam shooting game that can potentially offer many ours of fun and exploration.I honestly cant wait to get this game because its everything GTA IV should have been
[QUOTE="DisPimpin"]GTA wears the crown. LMAO at the haters. :lol:PS3_3DO
Would you rather play a boring game?????
Opinion =/= fact.
[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]So much for being the "gta killer" once again. :|metroidfood
except the first one was and so is this one.
GTA4 after its releases has all ready been widely accepted as unworthy of its 10 score from most outlets let alone a 9.5 score, its simplistic old hat go here sell some drugs, go here kill this guy missions with no variety at all, and next to nothing to do besides those missions except listen to your friends incessently nag you about bowling...yeah sorry saints row 1 and 2 are vastly superior simple as that.
Except that, y'know, most review sites gave it excellent scores. I'm sure that if it had been undeserving of its 9.5 and 10 scores it wouldn't have gotten them.
Im pretty sure on the other hand, that hype had ALOT to do with it. 9.0 is a good score. It really is and I think that something like that is much, much more realistic of a score for it. It has alot of positives and interesting changes but it wasnt it enough for me to actually enjoy very much at all in comparison to other gta games...Other than online. I love that for gta4. This saints score is pretty fair and right though. It doesnt deserve a 9.0 because....lets face it; its not that high of quality but the fun factor is there and bigger than ever. Like many people said, its picking up in that where gta kinda let it slip. To be honest though, Im not picking this up. Ive had enough of the sandbox.
I'm playing through it now and while I agree with the people that SR 2 IS more fun than GTA IV, I cannot say that it is a better game.
The game seriously lacks polish and at times looks ugly as hell. While it is definitely better written than the first game, it's like comparing Goodfellas to Boondock Saints. So far there are no characters in the game that resonate like any of the supporting cast of GTA IV, but once you get started it really won't matter all that much.
The driving is really janky, but the hand to hand combat is better than GTAs. As for the gunplay, I have to give props to SR 2 for the inclusion of human shields. It's fricking genius. The activites are INCREDIBLY fun. Like I said,SR 2 is definitely more fun than GTA IV, but the lack of polish hurts it in the long run.
If you thought the framerate was bad in GTA IV, prepare yourself, SR2's overall framerate is not up to snuff either. The music is really doing anything for me, so thank god for custom soundtracks..There are a lot of missions and so far they seem to have a nice variety. If they would have spent a little more time on this, it might have well been the one successful GTA killer. As it stands, it's a pretty good second choice and they have done what many people have tried and failed to do, which is make a good GTA clone.
All that being said, the people who were waiting for this game will not be disappointed.I think it's a worthy purchase.
Just about exactly what I expect. Like the first. Also like the first, I am sure its funny and fun to play too.SpruceCabooseIt's actually funnier than the first. I felt most of the humor in the first game fell flat. I found myself laughing out loud a lot this time around.

IGN SHOULD BE BLOWN UP AND **** ON!!!
IGN has just released their review for Saints Row 2 and while shielding themselves with a numerical score of 8.2, you can feel the fanboy hate in the text! They actually start of the review with an insult.IGN SHOULD BE BLOWN UP AND **** ON!!!

Thankfully this is one imitator that turns out to be much more than a straight carbon copy.Holy **** on a stick! Are these **** for real? While they do point out the games quality's you can almost feel a certain fanboyish anger wanting to unleash and rip the game apart, yet its held back in hope of earning credibility. The review surprisingly reads like a professional review instead of a dip**** fanboy rant like IGN's GTA 4 review. Imagine that. Its no secret to anyone that reviewers are looking for **** to dock points on in the game but frankly not having a clear understanding of how **** is done and making up flat out lies is just going too far.
Character models and environments aren't as detailed as they could be, the framerate drops every so often (with a v-sync option included), and the collision detection is wonky at best. I constantly got pedestrians stuck in the grill of my car (no joke) or sometimes even stuck inside my car.
Fact Saints row 1 and 2's character models flat out put GTA 4's to **** shame! This is not an opinion, looking at "in game" character screen shots prove this. Playing both games with a secure mind proves this. Volition does not hide their smeared ****ty textures with dark shading, its all in the open and looks good. Its dark when it is suppose to be dark and light when it is suppose to be light. Instead of having certain parts of the environment in an infinite darkness to hide laziness. Framerate might drop when the **** really hits the fan but this is the case with any game, yes IGN even you're god GTA 4. Collision detection is also a case with these and most other games, as far as pedestrian being in your car stuck that happens from running them over, they will occasionally fly through your windshield( havoks ), ya know if you hit em just right with a truck they will land in the bed to. It takes time for them to disappear( hows that for realism ) so to a retard it may seem they are "stuck", but something tells me if they would have disappeared immediately it would have been on IGN's list of cons.
While driving on the streets you'll also notice a good bit of draw-in and fade that includes cars that downright disappear in some places. I've been chasing people on a hitman mission and had their car completely disappear from sight and radar. Not cool.Wasn't cool when it happened in GTA 4 either but that detail somehow escaped IGN's GTA 4 review. Curious? Again, this is a small problem that can and rarely does happen in sandbox games.
Saints Row 2 isn't a GTA killer.
It was never touted as one **** My whole problem is IGN apparently hires "special" 12 year olds to write reviews. Constantly comparing one game in a genre to what "you" consider and think should be the "only" **** game in the genre only reassures me of your stupidity and lack of professionalism. IGN, shut down for one month and learn all you can about gaming history, because frankly your current knowledge is **** childishly ignorant and downright embarrassing. I realize you've had Saints row 2's score set in stone since its announcement and the fact that if you scored it too close to your god game a certain publisher would raise an eyebrow and wonder what the hell they paid you for.
. gamer5777
You could have atleast gave credit to the original writer of all that man.
Blah, blah, blah. I actually have the game and they are right. The game is simply not as polished an experience as GTA IV. It is incredibly fun and in a lot of ways certain mechanics work better, overall it isn't "quite there" yet.IGN SHOULD BE BLOWN UP AND **** ON!!!

Review the game on its own merits, don't write a legit review for one game that you secretly are bias against and then write a review that reads like fanboy rant for a game that you are bias for....or paid for, corruption is a sign of weakness. Don't tout one game as a *insert other game name here* killer, then say it isn't in your review. Thankfully the gamers will know if its right for them or not, but unfortunately there are lots of retarded sheep that will go on your bias unintelligent opinions and its unfortunate we can't just shoot stupid people.
I don't expect gamespot or 1up to do any better nor do I hope for them to. gamer5777
