If you had to be stuck with one family of consoles forever, who would it be? (poll)

Sega, just so I could make stuff and play games. Home brew on other systems is weak besides romhacks and operating system hacks.

@n64dd: exactly, I love PCs and pc gaming Diablo 2 is god tier.

However the brilliance of the home console first conceived by Ralph Baer (the genesis of home gaming) and the magnavox odyssey is unparalleled. Sure it is an antiquated machine but so is the original wheel but without it we would not have cars.

Ralph Baer is one of the unsung heroes of console gaming while everyone knows rockstar developers and ceos.

Microsoft. Modern console gaming without Gears or Forza is not for me

That's a tough call between Sony and Nintendo. I think I would lean towards Sony due to the great first and third party support while offering the better online service. I would not be happy about missing some of those Nintendo franchises though, not happy at all.

Playstation. I absolutely love my Switch, but this is easy. Almost all of my favorite games ever are found on the Playstation. I'd probably be sad every time there was a new Zelda or Fire Emblem though.

@xantufrog: Sega is gone and is not going to come back as a console manufacturer. Their last hope would have been google or someone co-developing something latching onto sega’s nostalgia with their pocketbook. Sadly google is too incompetent or Sega too proud. Atari is so vain they thought the recent attempt at a console by going backwards was a good idea...

It would be tough to give up final fantasy tactics, which is my favorite game of all time, but I would have to go with Nintendo.

The sheer number of classics I go back and play regularly from the snes gives me no other option.

The clear choice here is PC but that's not an option so it becomes more complicated. The best backlog of games of course is easily no contest Nintendo. If the best library is what you're after, Nintendo wins hands down.

However, if you are looking forward at new games that will arrive this year and after, then Nintendo misses most of the great ones. For this reason, Xbox is the best console for future, certainly next gen with their Gamepass that guarantees exclusives day one and a massive library of awesome games. Next gen gamepass is going to be sick.

Is console modding allowed? Because you could technically mod a console and use emulators to play games from older consoles of rival companies.

I just started playing the gameboy advance one for the first time. Any advice on the best version to play?

@n64dd: Well, my favorite is the original psx version, bad translations and all.

I haven't played it yet, but if I were to recommend one for someone getting into the series, it would be the war of the lions on psp.

It is essentially the exact same game, but with improved localization, plus a couple of new classes to add flavor.

I tried both of the FFT titles on GBA and Nintendo DS, and couldnt stand them. The combat just seemed so incredibly dumbed down compared to the original release. For example, in the original, spells and some abilities have a cast time, and can target a unit directly, or the panel the unit is standing on. This opened up many creative possibilities for planning ahead. In the gba and ds versions, every ability executes instantly. So you dont have to consider which enemy will have a turn before execution, how far can they move, etc. It also removes one of my favorite strats, which is to target a party member with a high level AoE cure spell, and then move him/her into the middle of a bunch of undead before it casts.

My only real gripe is the existence of a certain game breaking character who joins your party about 2/3 of the way through, as well as one class combo that is equally game breaking. But you can always opt to not use these two options.

Phillips CDI should be the obvious choice.

Nintendo for me. Generally more interested in their IP's these days.

Sony PS for the past, not the future. Hope PS5 is the one to play all PS consoles. With their exclusive movies going PC and the lack of MP games i think backwards comp might be only reason to get PS5.
