Everyone who isn't exactly new to gaming may know that gamepads are not the best suited for FPS games. This is mainly due to the fact that analogue sticks are a little too stiff for precise aiming. So my idea is that there could be a gamepad which would have different levels of sensitivity/accuracy/stiffness. So you basically would have the "normal" mode which would be useful for games that don't require high precision (platformers, action adventure, the most console type games), the "soft" mode for games that require high precision (such as FPS, possibly RTS and simulation) and the "hard" mode which would be useful for games that require stiff control (like fighters, classic shmups, ect.). This switching of modes would be either automatic or manual.

What do you think?

Unless I missed something, FPS have been extremely enjoyable on consoles for a very long time now.

And secondly, a lot of games let you adjust the sensitivity of the sticks.

Yes, but the sticks are still a little stiff. They should be more precise imo.

Shut up. I find that only PC gamers think that FPS's on consoles don't work which is stupid.

MobilechicaneX

I didn't say they don't work on consoles. I just said how the experience could improve.

First step to make them more enjoyable would be to not make them.

i actually really don't mind playing FPS's with a controller. after many years of practise it just second nature to me now. i still prefer KB/M of course. but i don't enjoy a game less because i have to play with a controller (unless its the DS3)

Agreed. TC is trying to improve something that many, by the sales figures of FPS' have little problem with.

Agreed there is nothing wrong with using a game pad for FPS, same with gamepads for driving games ... but are they good as K/M or wheels?

Not even close!!! ... not by a long shot ... so the TC is well within his rights to try to enlighten the misinformed

i have to admit, i prefer playing 1st person games on PC, unless it's a title which isn't action focused (e.g: Metroid Prime, Oblivion or Fallout 3), then i prefer Mouse and keyboard. Having played FPS games since 1998 when it was more PC predominant for the genre, i preferred twitch controls which i don't find as easy to do with a controller, although i do like most other genres being played with a control pad.

I think Halo, Mirror's Edge, Bioshock, Modern Warfare 2, GoldenEye, Red Steel 2, and Metroid Prime Trilogy are Pretty Amazing already.

There is a pad like that, pretty sure GS reviewed it, for 360/PC I think? Anyway, I think the best way to make a FPS on consoles is to make it slower, like Killzone 2. I know most people here would disagree, but for a noob like me the faster the game is the more frustrating the aiming becomes, unless it's like one hit kill with auto-aim, but that ain't good either.

ive grown to like the control pad for fps... its alot less precise and more difficult to use. But after lots of practice ive begun to appreciate the challenge associated with it.

Stop releasing 5 a week and then the genre won't be overused.
