last generation was a disaster though, my launch PS2 had over heating problems and needed some rest every hour or so, and my PS2 slim lens was a piece of crap and broke twice, it also scratched games

My Xbox360 has been working fine until now. It runs really cool and I take good care of it :)

Last gen my PS2's fan died after 2 years so I replaced it with a slim (it still works fine). My GC was by far the toughest console I have ever owned though. It still works after having been dropped and pushed off the shelf a few times by the cat. Crazy tough console imo.

It seems that the more complex systems get, the more problems they have. My launch 360 lasted 15 months before it died. I bought another, didn't want a refurb, and it lasted 16 months. My newest 360 seems to be working fine. My launch Wii started failing within a week of owning it. Nintendo replaced it in days. That Wii continues to work. I've had a PS3 since 6 months after its launch without error. freemultiplayer

Our fleet of HP DV laptops with NVIDIA G86M GPUs. My personal ASUS G1S laptop with NVIDIA G84M. My next laptop (DX11 gen)will be ATI.

2 Xbox 360s and 1 PS3. Ironically, my first Xbox broke just 3 days after I bought a Wii, my second died a month after Halo 3 came out, and my PS3 a week before the warranty ended.

One of my family members dropped my old Gamecube a few weeks ago, destroying one of the back corners...but it still works perfectly.

Other than that, none.

None.

i have consoles dating far back as 1983, and they all work.

However, I did have something wrong (and weird happening) with my Sega Master System. Whenever I plugged in the controller on port 1, the character, lets say Alex Kidd (in Miracle World) would move to the left screen, automatically, without me pressing left. I'm like WTF is going on?

Luckily this wierd occurance happened after the release of the Genesis. I decided to buy the Genesis, believing my SMS was possess by some evil nerd in the system, with all the money I saved from sweeping floors at my uncle's restaurant. After playing Genesis games for a few weeks, and buying the PowerBase Converter to play SMS games, I thought if the Genesis was BC with SMS games, can I use the Genesis controller on my dust collecting SMS?

I plugged in the 3-Button Genesis controller into port 1, then all of a sudden, by some miracle (no pun intended), Alex Kidd just stayed in place on the screen. It didn't move automatically to the left. I started pressing left to right and Alex Kidd moved exactly as I controlled it.

Weird.

But my beloved SMS still works though. :D

None have died... but my Wii was put into a wheelchair in the summer of 2007. The system overheated and caused GPU damage, which in turn causes artifacts while playing Wii games. But since it still plays GC games perfectly, and I have no interest in Wii games, I only need it to move at a wheel-chair pace. So its all good.

My DSL's top screen died after I started playing it for the first time in over a year (possibly more). Then Nintendo blamed me for it.

Six Xbox 360's have died on me, believe it or not. Now I just hope my seventh one won't.

My Wii and PS3 work fine, although the Wii's Sensor bar goes haywire every now and then. I had a DS Phat that broke down, but since I already have a Lite, that didn't really matter to me.

that's 8 counting the Wii, 7 otherwise.

Damn, that's a lot of money wasted on games.

I had 3 RRODs on the 360 which were all repaired for free. And one PS3 disc drive failure but Sony's customer service was surprisingly awesome so at least the two companies sort the problems out fast.

My Wii died twice - I've owned one since December of 2006. My 360 hasn't died yet but the build quality of the 360 is absolutely terrible - and I have a feeling it might die at any time. I got it in November of 2008.

For my first RROD it took over a month, around 6 weeks but this was in mid-2007 when 360's were literally dropping like flies. The other times it was around 2 weeks, these were in 2008 when the RROD problem was less severe. As for the PS3, it took Sony around 2 weeks to deliver the replacement.

Yeah supposedly the newer systems have a smaller GPU (or somne other peice of harware, I don't quite remember) that greatly reduces the chance of hardware failure.

I've owned at least one console every gen since the 16-bit era, and nothing had ever crapped out on me until this gen. Suprisingly enough, it was my wii, which won't read disks anymore. Optimistic enough i could just get in there and clean off the light, the wifi won't connect to anything, let alone even pick up a wireless network.

Oh, and it all happened out of warrenty :(

I'll get the little devil fixed eventually though, wii is going to have a killer 2010

Is this a common eccurance enough to warrant a thread? I have mostly Nintendo systems, they never break. However, I have 4 different Playstations. Each broke within months of each other.
