Just gathering data to see if the Switch is selling mostly to Wii U owners, or if its actually bringing in a large group of people who never owned a Wii U as well. Thanks

I also have a Wii U. Looking at the sales of the Switch, I think it is safe to say that it is selling to a wider audience than just Wii U owners, though. It would be more interesting to try to find people buying the Switch who don't already own a 3DS.

You're not going to get a big enough sample from just SW, but you probably already knew that. Yes,I still have my Wii U.

I own a Wii U and a 3DS. Plan on purchasing a switch sometime in the future. One thing that is holding me back from buying one is the lack of VC. I want to get the Metroid games...but dont want to have to play them on 2 separate systems. If they were all on one system it would help encurage me to make the purchase.

Never owned a Nintendo anything, especially not a WiiU, why would anybody spend that much on a new Wii controller? But I saw that Breath of the Wind game and it looked like Skyrim which is cool, and then I realized I could play it on the toilet, so I bought a Switch.

^

Yeah you're probably not going to come across many people like that here man. It's a gaming forum on a console gaming website. People here buy up all kinds of hardware. I've owned every major console aside from the Xbone.

Getting a sample from core gamers alone automatically skews your results.

No I skipped it, I owned the original Wii and got burned because of absent third party support and large stretches where Nintendo released nothing. It was even worse for the Wii U so I made the right decision. Feeling optimistic about the Switch so far though!

Exact opposite. I bought the Wii U at launch and hardly used it. Ended up putting it in the main room so my roommates could use it for Mario Kart and Smash. Once I moved out, I sold the thing. I am still considering the Switch, but I'm going to wait a while.

I bought a Wii U a couple of years ago during the holidays and then returned in less than a month for a full refund. Turns out it was a great decision.

I'm almost reluctant to answer because it is clear what the true agenda behind this post is, but yes, I also own a Wii U. I also know multiple people that have bought or intend to buy a Switch that never had any interest at all in the Wii U. This console appeals to a wider audience than just Nintendo's core loyal hardcore fans.

Eventually you are going to have to accept that the Switch is not the flop that you were hoping that it would be. Sorry, but your dream of playing Nintendo games on your Playstation is not going to happen anytime soon.

What is the agenda? I am literally asking how many people in this thread that own a Switch also own/owned a Wii U as well. Its a pretty simple question.

This has nothing to do with whether Switch will flop, not even I said it would, at least not at the level as the Wii U. I've said countless times that I can easily see it sell 30 - 35 million units lifetime, so no I have no agenda.

It's pretty obvious that when you ask this topic's question on an Internet gaming forum that a lot of the responses will be that they did also own a Wii U since this place is filled with hardcore gamers, but just because a lot of Switch owners on this board say that they also owned the Wii U, that doesn't reflect the real world and you know that, but you still want to hear a lot of Switch owners say that they also owned the Wii U which is why you created this topic because you are still trying to convince yourself and others that the Switch is only selling to Nintendo's most hardcore fans who always buy their consoles.

You have an obsession with wanting the Switch to fail and to have Nintendo stop making consoles. Prior to the Switch being released, you were constantly criticizing it and you couldn’t believe that anybody outside of Nintendo’s most hardcore fans would want it. And ever since it has been released to great success and acclaim, you have been trying to convince yourself and anyone who will listen that it’s just Nintendo’s most hardcore fans that are buying it and praising it and that it’s not going to last.

And you have this obsession because deep down you still want to play Nintendo games, but you don’t want to purchase Nintendo’s console in order to play them, so you hope that Nintendo fails so that they have to stop making consoles and then can start making games for Playstation so that you can play their games again. And that’s why the success of the Switch is obviously bothering you so much and you are trying so hard to still believe that it’s only short-term due to Nintendo’s most hardcore fans, but it’s not just Nintendo’s most hardcore fans that are loving the Switch and making it a success and I wonder how long it will take before you accept that.

I specifically said mainly. Please stop twisting my words. Yes, I still believe the majority of Switch owners also own/owned a Wii U, but I like to gather evidence to back up my assumptions as well. And btw, I didn't just ask this question on SW. I'm gathering data from multiple outlets.

I still do play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles, so I never stopped playing Nintendo. I just avoid all the new stuff.

I gave both, I imagine the biggest Nintendo fans would have been first in line to get these the day they were available for pre-order, and I doubt the most casual consumer is going to take that extra effort to get one until they are more available, which might be an issue considering Nintendo's production problems.

Thinking the people who purchased a Wii U are hardcore Nintendo fans is wrong. When i purchased mine it was because i hadn't played a Nintendo console sense the SNES days and i wantes to try something different then just playstation/xbox. I have been playing my Wii U more then my ps4/xbone lately. Pretty much just finished with DKCTF and now playing Yoshi's Wolly World. I might get more games for it still.

I had no interest in the WiiU or the 3ds but I plan to buy a switch whenever they become easily available. I was a hard core Nintendo fan until the Wii changed that. I'm now willing to give them another shot and the announcement of a new Metroid has a lot to do with that decision.
