How can Sony derail the Xbox One X launch?

I think they should...

- Price drop on PS4 Pro

- Heavy marketing on GT Sports (Sony's biggest franchise) and Horizon Frozen Wilds with bundles

- Really good PS+ free games in Novenber

- Announce killer new games before X1X launch (TGS or Paris) and not wait till PSX

- Take advantage of the 3 biggest deals (Destiny 2, COD and Battlefront 2) with heavy marketing and bundles

- Release trailers for GoW, Spiderman, Detroit, TLoU 2, Death Stranding...etc

Why would they want that?

Let it launch, announce PS5 within its first year.

pre-orders are fine, there is virtually no high profile hardware that can't sell out during the launch phase.

The true test comes once the system is actually on the market and people besides scalpers, fan trying to salvage their original investment and tech junkies are no longer a factor in the sales.

I've never seen people make such a big deal out of pre-launch sales. How did the Xbox one S do during the months pre release phase...and then what happened when it actually hit the store counter?

They don't need to, if Nintendo Switch actually has decent stock levels this holiday season, Nintendo will derail it for them.

Aside from that, a price drop or bundle deal on the ps4 pro would be enough to sway the unwashed masses who don't really understand the performance differences between ps4 pro and X1X.

3rd parties don't want an installed base refresh with new consoles. Microsoft is placing its cards in the generation lasting as long as the prior generation, hoping they will build momentum in having the more powerful machine--better 3rd party game experience--in the X1X.

They aren't going to announce a new console, it's too early for that and would probably do more harm to them then doing anything to derail the Xbox One.

Pricecuts , free pack-ins , bundles , holiday sales , advertising , game events , game announcements , paying off game reviewers , paying off DF , and paying off Keighly and The Game Awards committee members are all to be expected.

The 4k TV thing would be a great Idea but I wonder if MS could make up the difference in the console by doing something like that. Last I heard MS wasn't willing to take a hit on console manufacturing costs anymore post -360 era.

@lexxluger: im not sure how tv/console bundles work...but would it have to be MS that takes the hit? TV manufactures could take the hit if they wanted to use that as a oppertunity to clear out stock.

Hmm, that is an interesting flip. That would definitely push sales of Xbox One X as an "exclusive" feature if it was a 4k TV bundle. That would actually promote the sale of both products and we have seen the 360 TV bundles in the past.

If possible I think they should utilize that strategy this holiday for the X, they're probably gonna need it.

I think that's just down to your personal taste. The casuals that buy GT games in spades especially in Europe are still hyped for it.

They don't pay any attention to reviews and all they know is that a new GT game is coming. Even Sony knows this or they wouldn't be investing in this for Europe...

What do the demos have to do with anything? Also, you are comparing a Hot Wheels DLC from Forza Horizon 3, which is not even part of the Forza Motorsport series. There is similar shit already in Forza...

I'm comparing the demos to horizon, sorry i didn't make it clear, which GT Sport falls into.

And that's just an e-sport championship, which every game has, even Asserto Corsa.

No worries. I am not saying that GT Sport is a bad game. It is just nothing special anymore. GT used to be the best when there was little competition. I honestly don't know what Polyphony Digital does with their time. They take forever with their games and then release half-ass games. The competition puts out better games and quicker. It's quite sad really.

I have my Scorpio Edition PO locked in but I am under no illusion that Xbox will suddenly start taking the lead. Console launch hype will die down and it'll be back to business as usual I suspect.

Only real move Sony would need to make would be a price cut on Pro to widen that price gap just enough so that the power difference doesn't seem like such a big thing. Money talks...

I doubt they will price cut, since the one x is already launching at a higher price. Plus they have the regular PS4 for more price conscientious buyers.

But in my fantasy world, Sony would release some kind of USB3 add on device that added 2 teraflops of computing power for higher fidelity graphics. Something like the N64 memory expansion pack. LOL, that's all they'd need to pull the rug out from under MS's most powerful console ever.

I don't think they need to do anything, or can do anything. The X1X appears to be poised to sell well, at least for its price bracket. I also don't think it will have much bearing on purchases of PS4s.

If Sony wants to improve something, though, I think they should sell customized Pros and Pro bundles in the West. The Pro would take on more momentum if it had some effort put in to making it "special".
