Has Resident evil 2 has chance to top Resident evil 7 as best in series?

Hello friends,

so resident evil 2 remake is going to release next month and is getting insane amount of hype to the point that it will get very positive reviews by critics and i was also left impressed that how impressive it looks.

but then RE series prior to RE7 was mediocre and overrated. RE5 and 6 were the game that become some of the most hated games of last gen and probably terrible games. RE4 was most praised yet it was incredibly overrated. RE2 remake looks leaps and bound better in every way. and first 3 games were just fixed camera games that many fans liked but i also think they were kind of mediocre.

as a result resident evil 7 release and not only the best in series but also become easily by far best resident evil game ever due to most atmospheric RE game with best controls and gameplay something lack in prior games. it was easily best game of last year. even story was best in series too. as previous games also had bad story.

so friends, do you think RE2 has chance to surpassed RE7 as best in series? or will it be fall behind?

I wish they remake RE2 in first person but third person is also fine by me. being first person it would have be amazing.

so being first person is best thing happen to franchise, remember how bad RE6 was. so bad that it was gears of uncharted in RE skin. now its back on horror roots.

I actually did like RE7 when I play it on PC, but RE7 sure isn't nowhere the top of the line as RE2, so that's saying something. RE2 remake will surpass RE7.

RE 7 had unskippabe cutscenes(Which were norm for RE games before 3), few enemy types , worst final boss that ever appeared in a main RE game , backtracking with different characters(Which was there to make the game "longer") and bad melee combat.

It wasn't even among the best RE games.

It's story didn't also had any relation to RE at all. just rename chris to someone else, remove some newspapers and umbrella logos and then it won't even belong in the same universe.

Almost every boss-fight in RE is terrible, barring Revelations.

Its an answer to cancelled silent hills game that has nothing do with silent hill.

RE code veronica had good ones.(At least much better than RE 1,2,3 games)

Silent Hills wasn't a true silent hill game. It was just a walking sim with jump scares and some annoying puzzles. At least in the terms of gameplay RE 7 had some similarities to previous RE games.(Inventory doesn't pause the game like 5 and 6, you see your character heart rate in inventory , you have the ability to craft bullets like RE 3, 180 degree turn , herbs and other stuff)

So I consider it superior than Silent Hills .(But then Silent Hills wasn't as good as Silent Hill 1 which was the best SH game)

For me it’s a toss up between Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 for best in the series. Since RE2 Remake is based off of the original RE2 I think it has a good chance at becoming the best game in the series.

I would say no. I don't believe RE7 can be topped until they have VR again. It just adds too much.

Finally someone tha gets it. Silent ills or PT was not going to be the Silent Hill we remember. It will be another mediocre game with Silent Hill title slapped on it. It's absurd how it was propped up to be a great Silent Hill just because Kojima was going to make it.

Resident Evil 7 was crap and among the worst entries in the Resident Evil series.

RE7 is good but extremely overrated I don't know how many times I replayed RE4 because the gameplay was so good. RE7 gameplay is kinda of boring tried to replay it but lost interest fast. RE2remake is going to easily top RE7 not only in gameplay but atmosphere.

That literally makes no sense what so ever. Res 2 is a remake not a new game which means it's either already better or it's not, new graphics can't change that.

Wasn't Resident Evil 2 Remake made from the ground up/revamped? It sure seems like it was. The remake looks nothing like the original from what I remember,although it's been years since I last played and finished Resident Evil 2.

new graphics plus new controls plus overhaul of mechanics plus new prespective. its a different game.

NOT played 7 but 2 is my favourite in the series. 7 does interest me and it is in my to play list in 2019.

no only me. look at reception of RE6 and compare to RE7. see the difference.

RE6 nearly killed RE franchise and many fans back then believe capcom is dead and RE turn into COD. now here comes RE7, literally save the franchise.

people wouldnot had hype for RE2 remake if it was not for RE7 or its engine. people would assume RE2 remake going to be bad after negative reception of RE6.

Ok man. First off resident evil 1 was awesome because it is the game that started it. Resident 2 also awesome as hell one of my all time top favorite games ever. I remember what those games started in the industry itself. Even though it was so long ago even pre dated the internet I think not sure before I get trolled for that. But things in the games mainly re1 did change gaming. Re4 was hailed for changing the series in what direction the story was going and gameplay. Re5 was well re5. Re6 was a money grab so was survivor,gaiden,dead aim,umbrella chronicles and a few other. One I think lived up to its name was re3 nemisis. That game was my nemis is was fun though. Re7 changed the game to with story going away from zombies,and such and the graphics and atmosphere yea awesome but re1 set the tone. Re7 had good points but some parts of the story where kinda not cheesy but not written well. Resident 2 is more than a remake. Remake is when some of the games where released on gamecube. Re2 will be new I myself can't wait but im.not going in comparing it re2 or anything doing that I don't think is fair to what re2 did originalily back in 1998

Pretty hard to answer that question when you are the only one here who thinks RE7 is the best RE.

I still have yet to play RE7, and I'm not sure I will. But RE2 remake looks pretty awesome to me. I loved RE4, and RE2 remade with the same gameplay as RE4, but with horror elements sounds awesome.

And no. RE wasn't mediocre before RE7. RE and RE2 is regarded as great games for their time. RE4 is regarded as one of the best games ever made. RE remake on GC is regarded awesome. Your weird opinions aren't facts, dude.

thats what they make it good. RE4 5 and 6 become action games.

RE7 return back to horror roots. RE1 suppose to be First person but limitation doesnot allow them as a result they went with fixed camera. if it was PC game of 90s. it would have been first person.

RE7 achieve what they originally wanted to do with RE1 and it works.

imo, what capcom did was putting a mediocre overrated franchise and made a great game out of it. that is an achievement.

RE4 and RE5 are the best because the controls are awesome and they are damn fun.

I absolutely loved REVII. Played it all the way through VR, but with that said, no way in hell is the gameplay better than RE4. There is a reason why many consider RE4 to be the best Resident Evil in the series. The gameplay is top notch. From weapons, to enemies, to especially the boss encounters, something of which REVII was a bit shy on. Again, REVII was a great game, but overall, RE4 was better.

Gave up on RE7. RE2 was my favourite in the series.

The original RE2 (and RE4) was already better than RE7.

Couldn't even finish RE7, so I guess it will be easily better.

My favorite was the REmake. This new version of 2 doesn't look nearly as good.

It looks better as you can play with KB/M properly as opposed to fixed camera.

btw my friends, just watch this. RE7 may not perfect and may have some flaws but what capcom did compare to RE6 was a masterpiece. as after RE6 no one expect RE franchise to be good anymore. RE7 is not masterpiece and it has flaws like ship section was bad but it completely destroy RE6 in literally every way.

The Resident Evil 1 Remake on GC is one of the finest horror games- period. It's up there with the best of them. I'm really, really excited for the RE2 remake. I have hated on Capcom recently- but RE7 was pretty good (minus a few stupid boss fights) and i'm really amped for the RE2 release.

That will be very easy. I dropped RE7 after like three hours. It's a bad RE.

I like the fixed cameras, but could do without prerendered backgrounds. Something like Until Dawn is ideal for this type of experience. Fully rendered, beautiful environments that the camera can pan and move through as you navigate. It looks much more realistic and keeps the tension and beautiful composition of a fixed camera.

@ezekiel43: The pre-rendered backdrops of the RE1 remake have held up beautifully almost 20 years later. A big testament to the strong artstyle

Actually, RE1, 2 and 4 are often considered the best. 7 has the best graphics, but that don't make it the best RE game.

Just checked Until Dawn and yea, I wouldn't be opposed to that. It's cool how it pans around, although it's not a big deal to me either way. Like Shmiity said, the artwork is sweet in the remake and really the defining thing here.

I liked the remake, but if they made it now, I would want the environments to be fully rendered, because graphics have progressed far enough now that three-dimensional environments can look as realistic as those digital paintings. The designers can do more with the camera when the scene isn't flat. Wanting pictures over dimension in a 2018 horror game seems crazy to me. Also, while the RE remake still looks good, I wouldn't use the word beautiful. The super high res characters look odd against the low res backgrounds.
