Has Playstation done more for International Womens day than Xbox or Nintendo?

When I think of International Women’s day, I think of a day to celebrate women. And PlayStation has done that with fantastic female characters like Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Ellie and Abbey from Last of Us,Rivet from Ratchet and Clank, Kat from Gravity Rush, Kasumi from Persona 5 Royal (ps5 exclusive for long time). Plus there’s all the third party female characters that got their big break on PlayStation (looking at you Tomb Raider). Now let’s look at Xbox - I can think of that girl from Gears 5. And Nintendo - there’s Peach who is always a damsel in distress. Why don’t we get our own Peach game? I rest my case.

So what do you think, SW? Has Playstation done more for International Women’s day than Xbox or Nintendo?

We do have a Princess Peach game on the DS, called Super Princess Peach. Gameplay revolves around her getting emotional.

Gears of War deserves praise, because beserker locusts are female, and they are so strong that they are completely immune to all guns except for satellite-guided mega-weapons. Females who are totally immune to machines and rifles? Doesn’t get much stronger than that lol.

I do prefer female characters in most games I play. Sony definitely caters to a wider audience as far as diversity goes. Nintendo does have Samus Aran. Not sure if she was mentioned.

I honestly like the current representation of women in modern gaming even less than before. Now you have characters like the reboot Lara who can't seem to lift a simple rock without a man to help, whereas the old Lara was moving around the severed nose of the Great Sphinx in Egypt by herself.

Then you got characters like Ellie forcibly put behind the LGBTQ safety blanket because apparently the creators didn't think she was strong enough to hold her own level of significance. In instances like that, Abby turned out to be stronger. Because she actually took the time to learn how fight on her own and didn't rely on other people to survive. Ellie was weak in every area that Abby was strong in. And they didn't have to make Abby a lesbian either, she was strong enough as a typical, straight, white woman. Everyone will remember how she manhandled Tommy and threw Ellie around like a ragdoll. To me, she was the embodiment of what made female characters badass. Abby was just missing the over-sexualized body to go with it and she would've been right up there in the 90's with old school Lara Croft and Samus Aran.

I still see potential to turn it around though. Developers just need stop begging for sympathy points and shilling for agendas.

That's because Metroid is a game about space exploration to other uninhabitable planets. Samus enters places of extremely low and high temperatures so it would be pretty hard to get by without her power suit. You do spend time without it in Metroid Zero Mission though. But then you're just reminded why she needs the suit all the time. Them Zebesian pirates are scary!

Ehh...the only notable female Spartan in Halo videogames was Kat in Reach and she gets sniped midway. I guess you could also count Palmer but she didn't really do anything big. The other Spartan women are kinda static. There's definitely room for more in the lore.

Tanaka, Kelly, and Vale were female Spartans in Halo 5. There were female Spartans in Halo 4.

In MP for at least 3 through Infinite, you could play as a female Spartan.
