• Large portion of Halo Infinite’s development has been outsourced, even more than with most AAA games, and not all the studios working on the game have been on the same page.
• The collaborative nature of Halo Infinite’s development has led to a lot of friction and discord, which may have contributed to the game losing two creative directors (Tim Longo and Mary Olsen) in a single year.
• apparently 343 management has been preoccupied with the upcoming Showtime Halo TV series.
• There’s also said to be a disconnect between the Halo marketing and creative teams, with the former trying to keep the hype train rolling even as development threatened to derail. what the ****

This is all rumor for now, but Sams paints a pretty consistent and believable picture of 343 Industries as a studio beset with a chronic lack of focus. Here’s hoping they can rally and deliver the kind of Halo experience fans expect.

IMO Phil Spencer should step down after the Halo Infinite Debacle.

He said Halo Infinite will look great and be an impressive launch title days before that event happened.

I already had called out Phil in previous post since he hasn't done much after being the head for 6 years.

343 with 500 million dollars and years of development time gave us this.

Insomniac games is gonna turn out Spiderman game in like 1 year that looks way better than halo at this point. 343 doesn't know what there doing why did they release a Craig screenshot? It didn't look good.

Two things that jump to mind are the heavy outsourcing and friction between marketing and creatives.

343! was already infamous for relying too much in outsourcing, apparently they learned nothing from MCC.

But most important for me is the perpetual marketing issues. That some of the people responsible for the XOne launch are still in front of marketing, and they keep screwing up Xbox next gen in pretty much every event is mindbogglingly hilarious.

That being said, I'm still reasonable optimistic about this game.

I actually like it for two reasons:

1. Always disliked Halo

2. SW is fun because of that

Honestly, all I want out of this new Halo is the gameplay to be fun and the graphics themselves are hardly a concern but that demo was trying way too hard to be another CE when it should be its own thing. The way things are going with 343, I would at least get a few Bungie employees as overseer councilors if that can help.

The upcoming Halo show might actually helps with Halo Infinite hype. Seems like a good product.

MS imposed the burden on 343i to make basically two triple A games (single/multi) at once from scratch (new engine, new assets) for 6 platforms (XBO, XBOX, SX, SS, xCloud, PC). Imagine how ridiculous the amount of work is. Some say 5 years is enough, but even experienced Sony studios take 6-7 years to make a single-player game.

Well after seeing an Xbox 360 game being demoed as the next halo game, it’s easy for me to believe this rumor. Especially when halo inf being in development for the last 5 years and still looked so darn horrible

I do feel sorry for MS, I do feel they are trying hard but all their efforts are usually in vain

They backpaddled on too many things, Thier whole strategy is basically abandoning the normal console model despite having " the most powerful console"

I feel like the normal console model doesn't exist and hasn't for a long time now. Nintendo's doing their thing with handhelds and a reliable stable of IP's, Sony have their own approach, consolidating their strengths as a media corporation, and MS is developing their take on the PC model.

The days of Sega Vs. Nintendo playground battles are gone, and that's ok.

I knew this game was in trouble when it lost its creative director. But, there's a lot of finger pointing going around when it comes to this game, and there will continue to be after the fact. It may be time to find Halo a new home with a different studio under MS with better management, maybe?

Oh, I forgot that Halo Infinite is still a "thing". Must be the single player games exhaustion.

The fact Infinite is meant to be a "big" game is a red flag in itself. I would prefer a really good 8-10 hour campaign, and awesome, highly customizable MP which Halo is famous for. But I know we're going to get a boring open world with lots of mind numbing side "quest", and they'll almost certainly incorporate microtransactions, because that's one of the primary motivators of gaming companies going for a "live service" model, which Infinite will likely be.

If you watch those documentaries of Halo 1-3, it's like the games were being made by a group of close friends, and they all seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. By the sounds of it, Infinite's development is more of a soulless grind, with no clear direction.

If Philip has any dignity left he will apologize for sinking the Xbox brand and resign immediately.

People can hate on Donnie M all they want but at least he could lock up 3rd party exclusives and believed in console generations. He had a vision for Xbox and the 360 was a big success with him in the driver seat.

Phil is throwing tons of shit at the wall hoping something sticks. His studios are disorganized and missing deadlines because they don't respect his authority. You can't have a pushover like him in charge of a division at a company as big as Microsoft.

The over outsourcing would fall on poor management planning, but It's odd how the article mentions how the 2019 E3 trailer marketing was premature and trying to show the game was further along when they didn't have a full playable build then. You would think that that would be easily communicated and at the forefront..

Unless management was aware and still pushed it out because of a need to show a killer AAA title when you don't have one ready (similar to what Sony did with Final Fanasty 7 trailer for PS3). Either way, having a 500 million dollar budget and 4/5 years to show that dismal gameplay this year clearly shows things aren't developing smoothly in the 343 camp.
