GTA Franchise to be exclusive to PS3?

What is going on with the news this week? It's been mental! Also... what does this mean for Microsofts $50m deal for joint marketing and online content of the next game?

There will be quite a lot of profit. It doesn't matter what platform the GTA games come on, if you don't have that platform you will buy it for GTA. At least that's what Rockstar is thinking if this is true.

If GTA comes out exclusive, I would fork over $600 the day it came out.

Ummm lemmings are actually worse than cows in this regard. Remember when lems got hyped after the "MGS4 to 360" rumours?

Even though this doesn't affect me (I play mostly RPGs usually) I don't see this happening.

Why turn they're back on the largest install base in NA (out of X360 and PS3, Wii doesn't matter in this of course), its primary region for sale?

JP/EU gamers don't buy GTA like NA gamers do, so they would be undercutting their profits and would not make back any of that money that they would've WASTED on the 360 development.

If anything, I see the exclusive DLC in question, not the exclusivity of the game itself.

That would go down as one of the dumbest decisions in recent memory...Why split their playerbase in half? I wouldnt fork over 600$ to play one game, I dont know anybody that would.Vis-a-Vis

It's a rumor like that one that said MGS4 is going to the 360 in 2009. :|

its just a hint of how much they keep track of things. Ps3 will be $200-300 by the time next gta comes out.

play magazine gave lair a 9/10 so yeah im waiting for conformation from R*

GTA going exclusive is Take Two's call, not Rockstars, since they own the rights to GTA. Rockstar just develops the game, and if they ever leave T2, they do NOT take the GTA license. That doesn't stop an independent Rockstar from developing a new franchise exclusively though.

In other news, if EA buys T2, then GTA goes to EA. Good times.

Rockstar wants to make money, so I could see why they'd make it exclusive to PS3. It prints money.

I don't know how Rockstar's relationship with Take2 is structured but let's say the worst happened and Rockstar/GTA never see the light of day on a 360 system again after GTAIV.

GTA is a great series. But it's no longer the only kid on the block. Saint's Row was a great rip off with customization features sorely lacking in the GTA-verse and the sequel will have co-op and the boats/flying stuff that were missing in the first game.

The only other Rockstar property I really like is Manhunt but after 2 got neutered I pretty much lost interest in it.

what pisses me off is, why they would even allow this game to go to the 360 to begin with. money is the root of all evil.

Multiple sources are reporting that GTA is going to be announced as a PS3 exclusive again, after the release of the next game in the series. Apparently Rockstar will announce this in the next issue of Play.

Heh, you gotta love R*, This is believeable for me because they play MS and Sony all the time. Money for GTA timed exclusivity, money for exclusive 360 content, It gives me a laugh to see them getting fawned over and romanced by Sony and MS.

They will continue to play them in the future unless EA CEO John "Our preference is to make this a friendly transaction" Riccitiell has his way.

If gta goes to EA then that means that there will be DLC for everybody and no exclusives, then again they will milk it to death like they did with madden. If R* goes to Microsoft or Sony then then thats gonna hurt lots of people and that means less money for R* because of obvious reasonstader-salad

Since MSFT made a contract for exclusive DLC, EA has to honor those contracts. It can't just cancel them on a whim. It can try to modify them but not sure they are going to want to give MSFT $50 million back in some form or fashion. That content will remain exclusive to the 360 without a serious concession for that to change, and the only way that would even be a thought is if the PS3 version outsells the 360 version, so PS3 owners better get their checkbooks out.
