GSD: Xbox sales in complete freefall in Europe with a -47% drop in February, Helldivers 2 no. 1 with a bullet

According to GSD sales, Xbox continues to crater in Europe, down 47% compared to last February where numbers weren't already that strong in the first place. Xbox is completely done in the European market, which makes me wonder the point of continuing on with hardware in the first place. Another gen of deep discounts for negative gain awaits at this point.

This likely is due to the multiplat announcement effect taking place. News like that affects console sales for sure, and no one wants to invest in a loser.

In positive gaming news, Helldivers 2 has been no. 1 for a few weeks in Europe now, with sales actually climbing week to week on WoM alone. This is rare in the gaming world, but it does happen. This and Palworld seem to be the biggest success stories of the year thus far.

PS5 dipped only -2% is even crazier for me due to last year if I recall sales went up to 400% due to Hogwarts Legacy and stock availability post covid.

Be careful what you wish for cows because no competition means a monopoly, and we all know cows hate monopolies (remember the Activision buyout mantra)

Sony bent the knee by releasing Helldivers 2 day one on PC because PS gamers don't buy games. (Your logic 😂) It also reminds me of the abandonware hardware called the PSVR2.

That's not bending the knee, that's expanding the market. And it's paying off big for Sony. Sony's live service games have been planned to be day and date with PC, not Xbox. Because Xbox is a weak and dying platform that needs Playstation to survive, not the other way around.

MS's ecosystem is based on Game Pass, not Xboxes sold. Sales in EU are lower because most EU users prefer to use PCs to play Xbox games instead of an Xbox console.

You are claiming "Xbox is dead" because console sales are down. Consoles exist to sell games. But for MS, consoles are "one way to sell games", the other is PC (and to some extent Playstation and Switch).

If MS has year over year growth in content sales, I really don't think they'll care as much about hardware sales. Stop applying Sony's business model to Microsoft.

And for the record, MS has 34 million game pass subscribers. That means they are bringing in $4b- $6b a year on Game Pass alone. They're just fine.

So by the newer logic, Sony had to move their house (PSVR2) because it was on fire. In the case of the PSVR2, they literally cut the cord.😂

Those are very different circumstances.

One game launched as a console exclusive also in a subscriptions service, didn’t sell exceptionally well despite its critical acclaim (most likely because of the subscription service) and was then ported to the competitions console to make up for poor hardware and software sales.

Console makers owns the IP, yet the game launches day 1 on PC as well.

One strategy is reactive while the other is proactive. One tries to recoup losses while the other maximizes revenue and profit. Only an Xbox apologist would try to equate the two.

This is what happens when you make your console completely irrelevant. This sucks for competition and hopefully Sony takes notes.

This is why I rarely use my Xbox. Then again, we haven't had a new first party game on our Xbox since Starfield/Forza. So the next time I boot it up will be Hellblade 2.

Helldivers 2 is a great game, as is Rebirth. Stellar Blade looks, well, Stellar. So what is your point?

No it's not - Arrowhead Studios is not owned by Sony. For a game to be "1st Party", that means the developing team is a subsidiary of the parent company.

And don't put too much faith in the argument of "This manufacturer is the publisher, so they own the IP". Mass Effect 1, Ninja Gaiden II, and OddWorld were published by "Microsoft Game Studios", and they ended up on PlayStation.

Boy you're goofy. You don't have to own the developing studio to own the IP they work on. Mass Effect 1 (Bioware, now EA), Ninja Gaiden II (Tecmo), and the third and fourth OddWorld games (Oddworld Inhabitants) were never MS IPs, only timed exclusives published by MS at the time.

You know what are MS IPs that MGS doesn't develop? Ori, Flight Simulator, Crackdown, Killer Instinct. Try telling Phil Spencer his company doesn't own any of those and he'll slap the taste buds out your mouth.
