God of War Ragnarok reportedly causing developers to move their games

God of War Ragnarok is reportedly such a titan of a game, that other studios are moving out of its way and delaying their titles. God of War Ragnarok is easily one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon and is one of the games expected to be in the awards race at the end of 2022. The game was announced in 2020, just over two years after its predecessor was released, and was marketed as a key title for the then-upcoming PlayStation 5. The game was then expected to arrive in 2021, but was sadly delayed, something very few people were surprised by given how unrealistic that timeline seemed for the developers. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding God of War Ragnarok, but the game's release date was recently revealed and ensured that it would have a prime slot in the holiday season.

With that said, according to Tim Gettys from Kinda Funny, developers and publishers may be "scared" of God of War Ragnarok. Gettys went on to note that he's had business calls with various people who said things that he was "shocked" by. He stated that developers/publishers were getting out of the way of God of War Ragnarok and "pulling out" of things. He didn't get too specific, but stated that it's all in service of giving God of War Ragnarok its space. Given the game is expected to be a major contender for Game of the Year since its predecessor won the award last time around, its understandable why some publishers may be trying to create distance between the PlayStation exclusive.

Wowza, do you believe this, SW? I mean, if I was a developer, I wouldn’t want my game coinciding with God of War that’s for sure. I would say the same with COD lol.

I find it kinda funny that anyone listens to those douchebags. The GoW:R launch will be big because of 2018 (didn't really care for it), and because people are starving for anything.

Honestly from what we have seen of the game it looks underwhelming IMO. I don't see why any other big AAA publisher would be scared.

I just recently finished God of War 2018 and really enjoyed it. I’m actually more hyped for Ragnarok then I previously was. Hoping it turns out to be a sufficiently good sequel.

I will be playing GOW 2018 before Ragnarok as well. Never finished it, so will start it over and enjoy the whole experience.

Yea I can’t imagine not having a PS5 at the moment. It is CRUSHIN’ it.

The only game to really have that impact historically has been COD, no doubt God of War will be a big deal but I don't imagine it should be a game that should make others move their release dates.

I had to decide between major PC upgrades and a PS5 recently, and I made the easy choice - PC upgrades.

so, I wont be playing this at launch which is a bit of a shame, I'll be waiting for the PC version instead. Hope it turns out well, God of War is one of my favorite PS4 games. maybe i'll replay it on PC while everyone is playing this at launch.

Struggle with depression knowing I can't partake in the world class gaming experience.

I'm sure they'll only need to delay by a week or two. Then most cows would have already watched sorry played God of War Ragnarok.

Cool beta test it for me so I can play the real version on PC later on and beat it in 5 hours (easy movie game).

Weird. My PS5 has been sitting dormant. But I am glad we are getting a game this winter finally. 2023 on the other hand, I might have to just put my PS5 in the closet until 2024 until it gets a game hopefully.

Only other game they released of note in 2022 is horizon which were basically forgotten five minutes after it was released…. You get to pay $70 4 years later for a game that will be free on PlayStation by the time it comes to PC. That's all you peasants deserve. Good news for you is it will probably be higher rated then anything else that comes to your platform.

Ya kidding me? Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Ghostwire Tokyo, Uncharted Legacy Collection, God of War Ragnarok, plus the incredible 3rd party support Sony always gets.

Horizon and GT7 were both big games. If Gow makes it that's 3 highly rated AAA exclusives in one year. That's not bad.

Well it will be a huge game so it makes sense not to release next to it (If this is even true). I'll grab the definitive edition PC release in 2023-24.

God of War 2018 PC, the significantly better way to experience this game, is only $50. I got it for much cheaper though. Either way price isn't an issue for me, I just bought another $1000 monitor to put next to my new $1300 monitor after I just bought a $175 Death Adder V3.

Not an issue. For example PC had to wait 4 years for the last GoW, but it had a triple digit high scoring games lead during that period since it gets funneled the most games now a days. "Waiting" for other games is not an issue when you're ahead that much.

PC won SW for the last 3 gens, plays the far better version of 99% of games, and has almost all of competitive/online gaming.

Nonsense. If devs cared about that, they would have moved their games when Nintendo released animal crossing or mario kart, both of which are approaching 50 million units sold. The first God of war sold maybe 20 million units in 3 years. Animal crossing sold 35 million in 2 years, let it sink in.

lolno. GoWR aims at the core gamer. Animal Crossing is aiming at your mom. There's no need to move anything when your game is made for fake gamers, and most Nintendo titles that sell a ton are made for just that, fake gamers.

If gow2 doesn’t sell 20m copies, it will forever change Sonys strategies. Recent exclusives have failed to match up to past titles, and that has hurt Sony given that exclusives is the only thing going for ps5.

Sure. It's a highly anticipated game, and other devs are going to move it out of that window for a better chance at sales.
