To be honest I tried NMS on the XSX and I'm under the impression that it runs even worse than on the XOX.

There might be something to having fewer CU’s at a higher clock speed... I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before.

Colt does a lot of free marketing (shilling) for Xbox, so he gets in their good graces. But everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt. Okay, maybe not a grain, but a whole salt lick.

@ellos: agreed, it's certainly more entertaining than the straightforward narrative we had a month ago. Lots of scrambling on both sides. I'll admit, I'm surprised things are so... ambiguous at this point. I still believe the XSX is objectively more powerful and it will show with time, but I'm confused that time is needed.

I commented on a Dealer video once calling him out for favorably comparing the then Project Scorpio to a GTX 1070. Dealer responded to me by saying I didn’t actually watch his video and that he never said that. I provided time stamps for a half dozen occurrences of such a comparison. He called me a few names and then disappeared.

But isn't this the case every gen? Consoles don't show their potential for sometime. Or do you mean that time is needed to show it's advantage over the competition? That would be a good point.

From what I hear about RDNA 2, we shouldn't have big expectations of Ray Tracing this gen though.

Does the 500MHz clock advantage negate the CU count deficit? We know Tflops can’t always be compared between different architectures. But have we ever seen the same architecture running so differently before? I’m super curious. And if it turns out that the PS5 approach is better, someone at Xbox is gonna be in trouble...

And that is why it is so hard to swallow, this is MS this is the xbox, never has this console been hard to optimize it uses a custom version of windows and tools that were already similar even when they were not unified as GDK is now.

There is no doubt the xbox is more powerful the specs don't lie, but how efficient it can harvest those 12TF IF it can at all, maybe there is a bottleneck in memory, maybe system os features use to many resources the xbox one use to have 10% GPU reservation.

The gap been so small maybe sony's design is working much better than MS expected it to, but i don't buy the whole late dev kit thing.

I am not saying that the GDK is the reason but, many features were in WIP status for most of this year. I didn't even know if they were still going to make the Series S because support for the Series S was in limbo until mid way through the year.

Shortly before the consoles released I found out that the RX 5700 could be flashed and overclocked to a stable 2GHz+ and match or even beat an RX 5700 XT. Not exactly RDNA2 and a 16 CU deficit, but it was pretty telling. The Series X is now the slowest clocked RDNA 2 GPU. The 6800 series base clocks are I believe 2.1 GHz and go up from there. It seems RDNA might benefit more from higher clocks than higher CU counts. Although having both helps.
