Remember Virtual Boy. Nintendo has little problem with yanking consoles. (though I doubt anyone will die this time...hopefully)
Exactly.
People seem quick to dismiss this article just because Tom McShea wrote it. What if he published it under a pseudoname would so many of you be so quick to ignore it.
The Wii-U is a sinking ship; no amount of Mario titles can fix that.
umm virtual boy was not their only console in the market. snes was still selling during that time. 3ds can only save the company for soo long
What I thought they would do was delay all future releases to the next immediate console. What I guess is happening, if Mc Shea is right, they're going to release everything they have for WiiU then kill it. Which may mean we'll know about Nintendo's next console by 2015.
But nintendo also mentioned before they wanted their handheld and home console to have the same OS and be able to play the same games plus all their back catalog on both devices. Coolyfett is thinking maybe their back catalog is their main bread and butter, that seems to be the stuff they dont want to release for any other hardware, but a Nintendo machine. Nintendo is always FUN to read about. Article and comments about them bring Joy to Coolyfett. Cant wait til Coolyfett has a Playstation 4 though.
At the end of the day they know as well as anyone that the wii u is dead on it's feet. Nobody wants it save a few stragglers. People talk up its library but it's really unappealing and there really is no excuse for being so behind on technology once again.
The thing is, Nintendo made a lot of promises about the wii u that they've broken. They told you it would be for the hardcore. They told you the third party had been involved in every step. They told you they were on board. They told you it would compete in terms of technology, that it wouldn't be so far behind in power this time. They repeatedly lied. And instead of bringing them to task, those invested in Nintendo blindly ignore all the lies and continue defending them aggressively.

The system stinks hence the name wii pew. It's going to take a massive house cleaning to change nintendo. However the same idiots are running things with a pay cut. I don't see any hope for the wii pew. Even the next system with the same people making the choices be much better IMO. This is based on the history of the consoles they have made.

It's impossible to take someone seriously when you can't even say the name of the console, instead replacing it with a terribly childish, and not at all humorous, fecal jab.

Him saying "Wii Pew" (really reaching with that one) reminds me of the KingIAm, who would always say "P-U."
@AgentA-Mi6: yeah the 3DS really is the next gen GameCube. It pretty much had the fixings for it.
@NFJSupreme 3DS is for children....with games like Shin Megami Tensei IV and Resident Evil Revelations.
You are right, the Hand helds are for children argument is dumb. Games are about content many games are not for children. Nintendo is mostly for children, but to say hand helds are?? Naaw. Nintendo just needs a way for 3ds games to work on an HDTV and make the 3DS their main system and all future Hand helds their main system that can also connect to HDTVs wirelessly. If Nintendo made the 3DS with a way to play games on an HDTV and never released the Wii U at all they could have kept the 3DS at the 250 price point. Playstation needs real competition and what Microsoft makes aint it. Playstations main rival is Nintendo. Yea it great to see Playstation beating the crap out of Nintendo, but Nintendo could fix their problems easy by making their hand held and home console the same unit. If Playstation Vita games can look as good as they do, Nintendo doesnt have to make games look as good as Playstation 5 or next Xbox, they just need a hand held that looks better than PS Vita and connect to an HDTV they do that and they are back in the game.
GN's a dirty low down site that makes flame bait articles to get hits, I thought this place was above that.
A Joke right?
Have you been paying attention to Gamespot reviews the last five years?
This entire site is a giant bait trap for traffic
Reviews are one thing and I kind of like how GS weren't afraid to have a different opinion then the rest, I don't need a hundred websites all saying the same thing, that said, I'd like more detail in GS reviews that represent their scores better, eg Batman AO does only derserve a 6/10 but not quite for the reasons GS gave.
But writing bait articles is a dirty game that IGN specialise in. They love fanboy wars, they exploit it, to gain money from all the hits.
Next gen Nintendo will not be gaming it will be fitness products ok? Sounds like sheep will get in shape:P
Well, if it prevents themselves from pulling off suicidally stupid moves like going third party, fine by me. I won't be playing their fitness games but like I always have said, they'll find another industry and QOL seems to be preparing for that time SHOULD it ever come.

You'd be happier with Nintendo ceasing to make games altogether than to make them on another platform?

I'd be sad that they'd leave gaming for sure, but I think it's the better poison. It's not like gaming would actually go away if Nintendo was gone (IF *keyword* it does though, maybe the industry could use another reboot due to all the bulls*** that's been going on across the board). And this comes from someone who's gaming on other platforms non-Nintendo (mostly 360 right now).
You know...the title of the article is just bullspit, click-bait. And he's got zero proof to back up his outrageous title.
When the 3DS floundered Nintendo put some heavy hitters behind it. They don't quietly kill anything they release.
It's entirely speculative, but I definitely don't think Nintendo is planning more projects for Wii U at present moment. I'd honestly be shocked if they put out Zelda, but I suppose the possibility is there if they're far along in development. There have been no signs of life for a while with the console, so it was just a matter of time before they moved on with something new. Though, I suspect they're holding off on making any concrete decisions until they see how Mario Kart 8 performs.
Feel really bad for developers who are still working on it exclusively, I'm not even sure how the morale is keeping them going. WiiU needs to continue to bomb so Platinum has no choice but to rethink Bayonetta 2 exclusivity to make back thousands of lost sales.
Except that it's being published by Nintendo, and overseen by Nintendo, so it'll never be on another system.
Just a click-bait article.
Killing a system after one year would hurt them 10x more than sticking with it through the gen.
So if that happens people will stop buying them altogether since they are saying they are gonna pull the plug on it.
If Nintendo was going to do anything drastic, I think it would be to release a version of the Wii U without the tablet and a huge price cut.
who would ever buy a Nintendo console again if Nintendo did that?
More fuel to the "will Nintendo go third party?" fire, I suppose. Nintendo's image as a console maker has been damaged by the Wii U regardless of whether or not they chose to ride it out for the rest of Gen 8, and it's actually in a significantly worse situation than the Gamecube. Gamecube was the second most powerful console of Gen 6, and it could run multiplatform games just fine. On Wii U, it's just plain not worth it, and on top of that, its install base is downright sorry looking-- on top of the fact that Nintendo's licensing fees are still high, and there is the historically bad precedent of non-Nintendo games selling badly on Nintendo's systems.
Does anyone really believe that when Gen 9 rolls around, Nintendo will really be able to make a system that is capable of keeping up with their competitors? Granted that is quite far off in the future, but Nintendo has already lost the hardware arms race as of the Wii, and they might never recover. They put too much emphasis on hardware gimmicks and did not get the fundamentals right, and now that the casual games bubble has burst, Nintendo is at a severe disadvantage. If ever there was a time where going third party made sense, it's now.

It seems to me that the only reason a Nintendo fan could be behind something as stupid as Nintendo ditching gaming entirely if it means not going third party, is if they are simply blind with loyalty to the Nintendo brand and don't actually care about games outside of Nintendo's presence in the industry.
I grew up playing Nintendo games, and back in the day I was one of their most staunch supporters on this forum. Unfortunately, Nintendo went for the cash grab that was the casual market, and abandoned people like me who preferred solid gaming fundamentals over hardware gimmicks like waggle and touch screens. I would love to see Nintendo games on platforms that I actually have interest in, but apparently the clingers-on who defended Nintendo through every boneheaded decision they've made would rather see Nintendo cease to exist than to see their games with Playstation, Xbox and Steam logos on them. It makes me sad that the nuttiest fans have monopolized Nintendo's fandom in this way and never actually challenged Nintendo's bad decisions the way I and countless others who grew up with the NES and SNES did, but clearly they do not have deep enough pockets to prop up Nintendo's business model, so change might be coming soon.
If you actually like games, you should hope that Nintendo chooses to go third party rather than backing out of gaming entirely. If you just want to throw a hissy fit and quit gaming because your feelings got hurt, there's no reason you should want to see Nintendo leave with you.
I want a new super mario Sunshine. The best 3d Mario game.
Or you could enjoy the far more well designed Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D World...
Seriously though, you don't find MANY of the design choices in Sunshine to be outright poor? Maybe you just haven't played it in a while.
