Its a totally pointless speculative article to be perfectly honest. We all know Nintendo will release more hardware. Nobody knows what and nobody knows when. I have summed up the entire article in a few poorly constructed sentences.
LOL! By Tom McShea... That makes no sense business wise. They may replace it earlier than they thought, but they won't kill it just a year after they released it... Makes no sense...
Uhh its true though. Its pretty obvious, Iwata himself said that everything rode on the holiday season. If they didn't invest enough resources in marketed and gaming department when the system launched. You better believe they won't do the same now that it flopped.
I've said this along with many other people on the forum. They will ride it and not highlight the system. E3 will be QOL and 3DS.
It's all speculation. Conspiracy theory at best. The title makes it sound like there's some kind of factual, concrete plan in motion. Typical bait.
Its already dead. You can count the number of games that anyone is gonna buy, from this point forward, for this system for the rest of its life on ONE hand : Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, some Yoshi game and Project X and then finally the swan song with the new Zelda title. There might be a smattering of inconsequential 3rd party multiplat games in the mix. Yes, i like the Wii U, i think its worth owning just for the main good games 10-12 titles that were or will be very fun to play. But that is just not enough for most people to invest $300 into this system that already is at a dead end.
What I thought they would do was delay all future releases to the next immediate console. What I guess is happening, if Mc Shea is right, they're going to release everything they have for WiiU then kill it. Which may mean we'll know about Nintendo's next console by 2015.
" By Tom Mcshe"
Aaaaannnnnnd stopped reading right there.
thanks for the heads up
Let's hope so. I've been dying for the game cubes successor for what ten years now.
You're getting it as a handheld if at all.
@AgentA-Mi6: lol that would suck. Handheld are for children, people who love pokemon or people without smart phones. I am none of those.
No they're not. They're just going to ride out the storm. If worst comes to worst a new console is out the door probably in 2017(?)
once all of nintendos heavy hitters (SSB4, MK8, X, Bayonneta2, yoshi, Zelda U) gets released on the Wii U i think nintendo are done with the system.. i dont think Metriod U, mario U or any other games will ever see the light of day on the U. they will probably save it for their next console
Feel really bad for developers who are still working on it exclusively, I'm not even sure how the morale is keeping them going. WiiU needs to continue to bomb so Platinum has no choice but to rethink Bayonetta 2 exclusivity to make back thousands of lost sales.
Remember Virtual Boy. Nintendo has little problem with yanking consoles. (though I doubt anyone will die this time...hopefully)
well, hopefully they plan to release a new Metroid and Zelda before pulling the plug
I can see a future irony of the system being high sought after once it goes out of production

Exactly.
People seem quick to dismiss this article just because Tom McShea wrote it. What if he published it under a pseudoname would so many of you be so quick to ignore it.
The Wii-U is a sinking ship; no amount of Mario titles can fix that.
@AgentA-Mi6: yeah the 3DS really is the next gen GameCube. It pretty much had the fixings for it.
@NFJSupreme 3DS is for children....with games like Shin Megami Tensei IV and Resident Evil Revelations.
@misterpmedia: seriously, somebody just needs to sticky a thread called -- "why bayonetta 2 can't come to other consoles under any circumstances" it will never come out for another console not made by Nintendo. They are paying for the game to be made. Platinum has no choice to release it on another console. Even if they wanted to, they can't. The game belongs to nintendo. Not platinum.
People need to stop thinking this game has a possibility of coming to another platform. It won't. Ever.
Well they have only sold 5+ million units in a year and half on the market. Unless the sales of the Wii U pick up significantly, it will probably be discontinued in a few years. Hopefully Nintendo learns from this mistake when it comes to their next console.
I don't have a problem with Tom Mc Shea, but this article is pure random guesswork. I don't think they even have a history of character to base this behaviour on with Nintendo. I'm surprised GS would make an article out of such a wild and baseless idea. Please don't turn this site into IGN. IGN's a dirty low down site that makes flame bait articles to get hits, I thought this place was above that.

A Joke right?
Have you been paying attention to Gamespot reviews the last five years?
This entire site is a giant bait trap for traffic
The article only states the obvious. Makes no sense to keep making games on a platform that is not selling. The next e3 will most likely be the last for the wii pew. After that 2015 will most likely be slim pickings with no games. In 2016 it should be all but dead most likely.
Of course sheep think Nintendo is just going to keep making games no mater what the numbers are. This is highly unlikely as it's a numbers game. Retail is not going to order product that does not do numbers either.
