Gamecube vs. Xbox - who gets runner up?

Specifics: Games, games, games.

At the time, I would've said Xbox because of the superior hardware and online. But Gamecube had way more IP's and its exclusives are turning into classics/cult-classics, meanwhile online for Xbox has been shut off. Gamecube it is.

Never owned an Xbox, but I did dig the Gamecube.

From that gen, Ps2 is muh pick though.

I had a GameCube since launch and the only games I ever owned were Metroid Prime, Megaman and X Collections, Wind Waker, Resident Evil, Baten Kaitos and I think that was it. The GameCube's library was slim and extremely ass but beside Halo the Xbox had nothing but multiplats.

Xbox didn't have anything even in the ballpark of being as good as Metroid Prime.

Xbox would be my pick.

My choice would be Xbox, but I loved GC as well.

Gamecube was 2nd imo. The library, while small, had some gems. The Xbox was more or less a multiplat machine because of its power. Other than Halo there wasn't much there for me. (that didn't come to PC)

Anyway GC was an ok console with some gems.

It's exactly what I think... The only thing PS2 had was a great games library. The console itself was nothing special IMO.

The original Xbox had some great exclusives of its own, the best versions of multiplats and great online.

Even without Xbox Live, the Xbox beats the GameCube. But I'll give GameCube it's due for Metroid Prime and my all time favorite game, Resident Evil 4.

Yo, Xbox has some of the best games that generation. Panzer dragoon orta should not be missed. Sega put quite a few gems on that console - Jet set radio, Outrun 2, Otogi 1 and 2, gunvalkyrie.

Add Ninja Gaiden black, Voodoo Vince (great little platformer), Mechassault, Xyanide, Grabbed by the ghoulies (it gets shit on but it's really pretty good, it's a looker as well), Phantom Dust, Crimson skies, Yager, Fable Jade empire etc. etc.

How is the Xbox being a great multiplat console a bad thing? If you had a gamecube and Xbox, there was no reason to get any multiplat on Ps2. I never hear that being brought up when giving praise to the Ps2.

Otogi 1 and 2, Unreal Championship 2, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Dead or Alive 3, Conker Live and Reloaded (for the multiplayer at least), Forza Motorsport, and PGR2. A lot of good stuff on the OG Xbox, it's ghetto PC status shouldn't overrule the quality exclusives it did get. Largely under the radar stuff that deserved way more respect.

Love Conker, hate that they censored it even more when it was supposed to be uncut (what's that M on the box even for anyway?), plus it was made instead of Conker's other bad day. But yeah that's a good one.

And the great thing about xbox right now, the games are still cheap! Can't say that about the cube still.

I owned a GCN and PS2 during that generation... I barely touched my PS2. Go figure.

I gamed pretty much exclusively on GCN for both exclusives and 3rd party.

Gamecube had power, some amazing exclusives, and (for Nintendo) some pretty good multiplat 3rd party support.

But Xbox had more power, online, some amazing exclusives, and better multiplat 3rd party support.

If you are doing the stupid System Wars "only compare exclusives and ignore everything else!" thing then GC might have a shout of winning. Otherwise it's clearly Xbox, was doing more to push the boundaries of console gaming and if you didn't PC game, getting Bioware, Bethesda, Lionhead, Epic, Id, and Valve games was pretty amazing (I assume, I didn't have either of these systems until the 7th gen :P)

The only game xbox had was halo. Gamecube had at least more than one good exclusive.

GameCube. Xbox was a watered down Pentium III PC and its only worthwhile exclusive was Halo 2.

Gamecube is and always was a distant 3rd, but I have always found it cute that those who never owned one act as though it is better these days. I owned all 3 like I always have/will.. PS2 wins by the smallest of margins.... however, my 3 favorite games of the gen were on Xbox. KotOR 1 and 2 and Morrowind.

Gamecube had some generation-defining games. Xbox had a shooter that played better on PC.

Halo was fun and all but Gamecube had many fun games. Gamecube wins runner up.

I initially enjoyed the Xbox more, but over time, I enjoyed the GameCube more. The GC library has generally aged a lot better than the Xbox library.
