An official usb adapter has been announced for Wii U that will allow the Gamecube controller to be used. It will support four controllers.

At least we don't need to plug them into Wii remotes!

Story can be found here.

Further proof that both the tablet and Wii remote were gimmicks that were simply incapable of being competent with many genres.

Thanks Nintendo for two gens and 10 years worth of gimmicks.

Just watch: People are gonna talk shit about Nintendo for this, even though most of this forum was pissing and moaning about there being no GameCube capability earlier in the Wii-U's ilfe.

The best thing is that they started playing porn music in the video announce and the shots of the product look like this:

Shut up and take my money indeed.

That's interesting. It would have been nice if the console would have launched with full Gamecube BC. I would have been able to sell my Wii.

And to think I almost wrote the whole thing off when they announced the Doritos pope was to host.

Those beautiful bastards. I might buy a wavebird now. Better yet, Nintendo should relaunch them.

I'd be shocked if they didn't in some way. Why bother having a peripheral when you can't buy what it connects to?

@DarkLink77: I can see that branded controller as part of the adapter, sure. I was refering to wavebird though. I'm not pro enough to care drastically about a tiny bit of input lag, and would still like to play wirelessly.

I know. I still can't imagine them not doing, just because people like having wireless controllers. They're the standard now.

My topic on this was deleted, so yeah. Had to do some inquiring to find this one.

Anyway, I'm hoping that we'll get some GC VC games now. The Wii U sorely needs them.

How dare Nintendo give players who have been playing Smash Bros on GameCube controllers for over a decade a completely optional way to play Smash Bros on the Wii-U!

That wasn't the point of my post. My point was people here were angry about the lack of GameCube controller functionality, but many of the same people will laugh at Nintendo for doing what they wanted Nintendo to do.

I'm perfectly okay with adapter.

EDIT: I am pleasantly surprised to see that I have not been proven correct yet though.

My post wasn't meant to be a direct response so much as an agreement with what you said. Gamers will bitch that they don't get options and then when they get them, they complain about having options.

No, you don't understand: this is an option in addition to the already available controllers not a replacement for them. More options is always a good thing.

Perhaps this is just the start. What if it isn't just GC pads, but NES, SNES, N64 that go into this thing as well?

They're the optimal controller for Smash Bros., and these adapters are being made (at least primarily) because of SSB4.

But the gamepad works perfectly fine, and is better than the Gamecube controller in a lot of ways.

Of course options are better. However, ubiasedposter has a point. You can clearly see a flaw in the wiiU and that being the standard controller is too pricey to buy multiple times. If nintendo had packed a pro controlelr with the system, it wouldve been a better design choice (imo).

Btw, im not saying the wiiU tablet controller is bad, its just that usually youre gonna have 1 per console.

Nintendo should keep it simple next gen: good cheap controller, powerful console. thats all they'd need to win people over.

Why are there 2 separate Wires connected from the Adapter into 2 separate USB ports into the WiiU?

Not that I have any intention of getting a WiiU, but it seems weird.

Ninty is set to soon have more controllers than games ;)

Seriously though, am I the only who remember how EVERYONE hated the GC controller? I loved my Gamecube but the controller was nowhere near as good as the competition's.

Edit:

And i agree that Ninty risks fragmentation and it's almost an acknowledgement of the pad not being a very good idea in the first place.
