@kvallyx: Is there a VR version? If not, then it's not better. Flat screen driving is so 2005.
No, no gimmicks.
still the best way to play. gimmicks or not.
wasn't that the day one patch?
Nope. That is many patches to fix the broken game. Did you want me to put up another game and their list of patches since the release? I am ready if you are.
then how come I beat in one week if it was broken? with no freezes or problems.

Devs aren't prioritizing split-screen because, quite frankly, this is 2023 and not 2002. Everyone has the internet. If you want to play with other people in your household, there's always GamePass streaming to any TV or monitor in your house. It simply isn't a sought-after feature anymore no matter how loud the vocal minority online cries about it.
Quite frankly, if you prefer sitting alone at home rather than in a room with friends and family, you're a fucking freak who shouldn't be trying to dictate to anyone what is "sought after".
The only reason devs prioritise online is so that they can charge for it: memberships, battle passes, extra DLC, etc. Nothing to do with lack of demand for split screen, which remains the crown jewel of multiplayer gaming ;)

Do you really believe that devs are prioritizing online because they can charge for it? Which dev is charging for online play?
With that said it would be a bit naive to believe that split-screen play is sought after by the majority of gamers.

Yes. All of them: first party games via pay to play online, and all games via passes, DLC, expansions, skins, points, etc etc etc. Split screen isn't monetisable in that way, so it's intentionally dropped, to our detriment.
Why is it naรฏve? The vast majority of gamers I've met in my decades of gaming have all loved split screen gaming. Humans are social creatures and enjoy hanging together. It's like asking why pubs and clubs are preferred to drinking at home alone...

Developers don't charge to play their games online with the exceptions of select MMORPGs. Things like season-passes, DLC, expansions, skins, etc can exist with or without the presence of split-screen.
Anecdotal evidence is pretty useless. It is akin to me saying, "The vast majority of gamers I've met in my decades of gaming have all loved playing exclusively online and hate splitscreen." That is not a reflection of gamers, just a limited point of view.
Clubs and pubs are literally meeting locations. That is a terrible analogy. ๐ฅด

First parties (Nintendo, Sony, MS) do in fact all charge for online, split screen is always free. Their online only games are ways to incentivisze you to pay to play online.

These are all online exclusive though. Goldeneye didn't have them. Halo 1 didn't have them.

Anecdotes aren't data, but you don't have data either, so...

Split screen gaming is literally a meeting location for me and the people I love (family, friends, partners) for decades. It is a wonderfully perfect analogy ;)

1. The platform holder charges for online not the developers.
2. Online exclusives in the sense that you need to be able to download these additions like everything else?๐ค Or are you trying to argue that you need to pay for online gaming to access these paid features?
3. It is useless data if you are trying to make any claim that is supposed to represent gamers as a whole. Split screen died because the gaming populous don't care for it and the numbers shows.
4. Split screen gaming is NOT a meeting location. It is a gameplay feature. Please discern the difference. Your comparison to it being equal to pub or club is silly.
1. The platform holder and developer are one and the same in many, many cases. To play Halo Infinite on Xbox or Splatoon 3 on Switch, I must pay. You think that's a co-incidence? Older Halo and Splatoon games had FREE split screen, the newer ones do not, hmmm....
2. They are mass-advertised, mass-produced, FOMO features that can only be applied to online games. You cannot sell skins in Goldeneye or season passes in Halo 1.
3. You claiming "the gaming populous don't care for it" is also an absolutely baseless anecdote. "The numbers show" - What numbers, specifically? What do they show?
4. I meet my friends, family and partners at the pub for drinks. I meet my friends, family and partners at the console for games. Both are social, in person hang out venues. Simple concepts ;)

1. "Yes. All of them:" False. Learn the meaning of all. ๐Halo Infinite Multiplayer is free. So, wrong again.
2. Non of that changes the fact these things can exist with or without split screen. So, wrong yet again.
3. The most played games on consoles are multiplayer games. Please use many of the resources online for verification. Claiming it is anecdotal is hilarious. So, wrong another time.
4. Split screen is factually not equal to a club or pub. No repeating changes this.๐
Split-screen? What is this 2008?
Seriously, haven't thought about splitscreen since 2002
for me personally, couch-co-op died when online gaming became viable..
the exception would be fighting games.. recently played some local Smash Bros with a lifelong friend and had a blast.. still, not something i would do on a regular basis.. it's just too convenient to hop online for stuff like that..
Good point, I've been playing fighting games for over 35 years and that's definitely coop, just easier to facilitate between players without a split screen

well if it was so broken then how many people beat it before the final copie came out? I haven't had any problems with any sony game ever that I can't finish a mission or game.
nor have I with xbox but third party with cyber punk and more seem broken.
same with skyrim and more which is a xbox studio now.
